[Bug 771633] Re: [Natty] Realtek ALC888 0x10ec0888 - mic not functional
Problem solved. What happened? I don't know. Puzzled with the fact that I was the only guy in Ubuntu Natty planet with a crashed sound, decided to give another try. This time, instead of zsync-inc my .iso sources from cdimage.ubuntu.com , zsync-ed from the actual Natty release in nearest mirror (it shouldn't make any difference since I started seriously testing Natty Beta just after the final release on April 28 - but, in fact, there was a slight difference, less than .5%). Then burned a USB stick from within the current and buggy Natty test install, instead of using the Maverick application . Booted from the USB stick in "test Ubuntu" mode, completely updated the stick from the standard source, checked the microphone and of course it didn't work. Opened alsamixer in a terminal screen, because of https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/771739 - and enabled the rear mic - standard in my system. Tested the Sound Recorder again and "voilà" it works! This time without the serious distortions observed before. Installed Natty on HD again, (third or fourth time) now from this special stick, tested sound and it works, updated (almost 200 Mb in file updates up to now) and it works, installed Skype and it still works, enabled NVidia last video driver, rebooted and Unity is there, and I still don't like it but at least the sound works. What really happened? I really don't know, but somehow it is was "magically" solved. I guess David Henningsson will be happy to know or perhaps a bit intrigued, like me. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-media in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/771633 Title: [Natty] Realtek ALC888 0x10ec0888 - mic not functional -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 453942] Re: Evolution freezes while checking IMAP email
Evolution freezes my system up completely (except the cursor, I should say.) It doesn't happen when evolution first launches, but only when I go to "Contacts" and try selecting a specific contact (any specific contact, rather). I'm attaching the trace I produced following the debug instructions. I had to leave the system frozen for hours before I could x-out evolution. It stayed frozen and grayed out, but at least I got the little pop-up dialog that asked if I wanted to force quit. I chose yes, and then could get to the terminal. I think I was supposed to follow the second half of the instructions WHILE evolution was frozen, but I couldn't do any such thing, because the entire system was frozen. Anyhow, debug seemed to say something about there being no trace to report. I don't know... please peruse the attached report, and let me know what else I can produce for you. Thanks. [Bug 705123] Re: Options tab missing from Startup Programs prefs dialog
What a mess. Decades ago, the X Window System came with a session- saving protocol which allowed apps to tell the window manager to restore them later. This served Unix and later Linux pretty good for a very long time. Then, a couple years ago, the X-server-based protocol was deemed unacceptable and support was yanked without notice form Gnome and replaced by a new protocol which no application supported, and a big Gnome update was released in that state. Of course, this meant that session-saving was completely broken. Over the past few releases, many (but not all) apps were updated to work with the new Gnome session- saving protocol, and by Ubuntu 10.10 session-saving was useful again. Arguably all that work was pointless to begin with, but now it is completely wasted because session-saving of any kind has been disabled. We are now just like Windows, with only a manually-maintained list of "startup apps". The post referenced in comment #4 says that sessions saved under one window manager or session type (unity, etc.) were not compatible with other session types. Well, then why not save sessions independently for each type of session? It would be better to force users to separately set up their session under each scheme than to not allow it at all. Alternatively, make "save session" an interactive program which grabs the display and lets the user click on each window they want to save, and then creating new entries in the "startup programs" list just as if the user manually entered them. This might avoid all the problems with automatically saving all windows except those which shouldn't be... -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-session in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/705123 Title: Options tab missing from Startup Programs prefs dialog -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 284443] Re: gdmsetup: Don't offer autologin for ecryptfs users
Robert: does this mean that bug 753707 was introduced? It seems that autologin now does not work when .ecryptfs is present in the $HOME directory of the user to be autologged in. If I can add my two cents, that seems to be a bit unfortunate, because now gdm does not ask me for password anyway (it just wants me to select myself as the user to be logged in) so the encrypted directory is not mounted anyway and autlogin does not work either. There is a README in my Private directory that reads as follows: THIS DIRECTORY HAS BEEN UNMOUNTED TO PROTECT YOUR DATA. >From the graphical desktop, click on: "Access Your Private Data" or >From the command line, run: ecryptfs-mount-private Why don't we change it so something like this (I am not a native speaker so the English might be dubious, I am not sure if autlogin can be made into a verb) : THIS DIRECTORY HAS BEEN UNMOUNTED TO PROTECT YOUR DATA. This may be because you were autologged in and thus did not enter your password. >From the graphical desktop, click on: "Access Your Private Data" or >From the command line, run: ecryptfs-mount-private -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/284443 Title: gdmsetup: Don't offer autologin for ecryptfs users -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 779639] [NEW] gnome screensaver activation is hindered by unobscure routine
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver The problem occurs in Natty, using the Unity desktop. I have not tried the old-style desktop to see if it also affects that. https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=649755 I have reported upstream a bug in Gnome Screensaver that is preventing my screensaver from activating during session timeout. The symptom is that the session times out, the screen fades to black, and then immediately returns to the desktop. The symptoms are similar to Bug #241206 and Bug #363635, but the cause is different than those bugs. Summary of upstream bug report: The problem is caused in gs-manager.c by the function window_obscured_cb. This function is called when the screensaver window is obscured (i.e., when fast user switching swaps to another VT) or unobscured (i.e., switching back to the VT). In addition to attempting to disable or re-enable the screensaver animation, when the screensaver is unobscured the callback automatically makes a request to unlock the screen. This saves the user from having to press a key or wave their mouse around to bring up the unlock dialog. My problem is that, for reasons I do not understand, my screensaver thinks, every time it activates due to session timeout, that its window is obscured briefly. window_obscured_cb is called twice in rapid succession, once for obscure, then again for unobscure. Because I do not use the screensaver lock feature, this means that, on the unobscure call, the screensaver is deactivated. Thus, my screensaver will never activate due to a session timeout. I have verified that the obscured window event is the reason for the screensaver deactivation using the debugging output. I have attached a patch in the upstram bug report that fixes the problem by removing the line that calls the screensaver unlock automatically as a result of an unobscure event. ** Affects: gnome-screensaver Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown ** Affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Description changed: Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver + + The problem occurs in Natty, using the Unity desktop. It looks like, if there is no major strategy for that Clickpad - stuff, which gets quit complex with all these features and options. greetings reinhard -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/720389 Title: The touchpad works very bad -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 779523] [NEW] Adressbook shows contacts in all books
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution When I create multiple addressbooks in Evolution and then create a contact in book A, it also shows up in book B. If I try to delete the addressbook I get a notify that I can do no such thing. When I reboot evolution with evolution -force-shutdown and then reopen evolution and delete the addressbook I can do that for just one book. It seems that it is not working properly. I'm using Natty, evolution 2.32.2. ** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/779523 Title: Adressbook shows contacts in all books -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
