[Bug 789479] Re: Improper encoding of the Symbol font

2011-05-29 Thread Scott Ritchie
It would be possible to just, at the packaging layer, return the symbol
font to be Wine only. But it would probably be better to fix it.

It's also possible to lower the symbol replacement font priority.

[Bug 397980] Re: evolution deletes all e-mails in a folder after renaming

2011-05-29 Thread Kram
I just had the same problem on Ubuntu 10.10 - all emails but one were
gone from my Inbox. Quite a disturbing experience ...

Luckily, the solution that Joost suggested worked for me. Thanks a lot,
Joost!

I heard various complaints before but the fact that such a critical bug
has been around since 2009 clearly proves to me that the evolution
project is indeed defunct. I will move to Thunderbird asap and will
never touch evolution again.

[Bug 515155] Re: unlocking screensaver hangs when ecryptfs is unmounted

2011-05-29 Thread TomasHnyk
I am confirming this on an up-to-date Natty.

I have ecryptfs installed and I have encrypted just one directory. I use
autologin and so the encrypted directory is not mounted on login and I
have to mount the encrypted directory manually and so it often happens
that it is not mounted when I suspend. Then, it takes a long time (I
would say two minutes, but it might vary, until now I thought it just
froze and rebooted the computer.) to timeout.

I am not sure this is a bug in gnome-screensaver. It is at lest in PAM,
if not in ecryptfs, no?

Same problem on natty (11.04).
Could be this is because the machine's IP number sits on br0 interface, but
IMHO it is still bug.

If I set the interface to br0 using the trick in comment #5, the IP is

[Bug 789847] [NEW] Empathy throws Network Error, when logging on my Jabber account

2011-05-29 Thread Miqio Berk
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

mission control event log tells, that no password has been given.

Ubuntu 11.04
empathy 2.34.0-0ubuntu3
dbus 1.4.6-1ubuntu6

Related to this problem might be, that i also fail to mount my webdavs-
drives via nautilus and to run scripts from within nautilus that require
root privileges (sudo after gksudo requires password again).

All this worked well with ubuntu 10.04, which i have still on my usb-
hdd. I have checked for the correctness of the passwords. As skype is
running well and as i managed to mount my webdav-drives with that
mount.davfs extension, i suppose, that i do not have a network problem.

A problem with the dbus authentication module?

[Bug 553162] Re: Set $LANGUAGE if the user picks a different locale in gdm, so that language-selector and gdm stop disagreeing

2011-05-29 Thread dreamon
I am not sure if this is related, but I am experiencing problems with
GDM overriding language selections I apply on a per-programme basis via
the env variable.

Normally, when I select Chinese (China) at the login screen, I can still
run programmes in English by prepending an env argument, e.g. env
LANG=en_US.UTF-8 firefox. That way I can run an English instance of
Firefox in a Chinese language Ubuntu session. This was working fine up
to Lucid. Maverick was the first Ubuntu release that caused problems.
After installing Maverick, whatever language I specified at the login
screen would stick, and I couldn't run programmes in an alternative
language by prepending env. The issue disappeared somewhere along the
way after an update, though. However, I just finished setting up a fresh
install of Natty and the problem reappaeared.

Is this related to this bug or described somewhere else? Has somebody
else experienced similar problems?

[Bug 553162] Re: Set $LANGUAGE if the user picks a different locale in gdm, so that language-selector and gdm stop disagreeing

2011-05-29 Thread dreamon
A screenshot demonstrating the conflict between gdm and env.

I selected Chinese (China) at the login screen to run a Chinese
language session of Ubuntu. In this Chinese Ubuntu session I am trying
to run an English instance of Firefox by prepending env
LANG=en_US.UTF-8. Note how Firefox comes up in Chinese instead of
English.

[Bug 586636] Re: Scrool bars disappear when Remote Desktop Viewer in fullscreen

2011-05-29 Thread Andrea Corbellini
Thank you for your report. I can confirm this bug. The upstream bug
report suggests that the screen should pan, rather than the scrollbars
should be shown, however the problem is the same.

Re: [Bug 403336] Gnome desktop stops responding when panel docked on left

2011-05-29 Thread mlg7
I have to install and move to a new OS to test a bug?
I'd suggest that you first move that panel to the left yourself and
tell me what happens (assuming of course that you yourself
are using your product), and then I'll think which partition I can
sacrifice in the name of 403336.

19.05.2011, 19:28, Pedro Villavicencio pe...@ubuntu.com:
Thanks for the report, it has been some time without any response or
feedback in this bug report and we are wondering if this is still an
issue for you with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal, May
you please test with that version and comment back if you're still
having or not the issue? Please have a look at
http://www.ubuntu.com/download to know how to install that
 version.Thanks in advance.

This is a pretty big deal what something that used to work stops working
in an LTS release. Any workarounds while we wait for a repackaging? I

figure out how to remove libmusicbrainz4c2a without having a bunch of

[Bug 788894] Re: nautilus doesn't create interactive desktop in classic session

2011-05-29 Thread Eliah Kagan
I am now able to run a Unity desktop from the Oneiric amd64 20110527
daily-live CD on that machine, and this bug occurs. So it is not
specific to classic desktops.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: nautilus

In a fully-updated Oneiric i386 system with no graphics acceleration,
running nautilus 1:3.0.2-0ubuntu1 and (in case it's relevant, as may be
suggested by output to stderr) appmenu-gtk 0.2.1-0ubuntu3, Nautilus
doesn't create an interactive desktop when run in an Ubuntu Classic (no
effects) session. The desktop is blank, contains no icons (even when
there are files in $HOME/Desktop that don't start with .), and does not
respond to right-clicking or to clicking-and-dragging).

Until the large number of updates I installed earlier today
(/var/log/dpkg.log attached), a Nautilus folder window would launch when
I logged in. I had assumed that was occurring instead of Nautilus
creating an interactive desktop. Now no Nautilus folder window is
created. Running nautilus manually successfully brings up a folder
window, but does not render the desktop functional.

When Nautilus is run from a Terminal window, the following messages
(each with a blank line after it) are printed 24 times after the initial
  Initializing nautilus-gdu extension message:

  `menu_proxy_module_load': nautilus: undefined symbol: menu_proxy_module_load
(nautilus:1891): Gtk-WARNING **: Failed to load type module: (null)

However, those messages are also printed when I run other GTK+
applications from the Terminal (such as gedit), so they might not really
be related in any way to this bug. I've included them in case they are.

The Oneiric system on which this occurred and on which I am reporting
this bug was created several weeks ago by changing nattys to
oneirics in sources.list and running apt-get update followed by
apt-get dist upgrade. But I was also able to reproduce this problem on
an Oneiric i386 20110526.1 daily-live system running on a machine with
identical hardware (also in an Ubuntu Classic (no effects) session).

This bug has some degree of resemblance to bug 708525, bug 749703, and
probably others, but those bugs seem to lack the necessary degree of
specificity (at this time) to determine if they are similar in cause to
  this bug.

+ UPDATE: This is not classic desktop specific, as it also occurs on an
+ amd64 machine in a Unity session with the Oneiric amd64 20110527 daily-
+ live CD.

[Bug 788714] Re: gnome-user-share crashed with SIGABRT in g_option_context_parse()

2011-05-29 Thread Eliah Kagan
Today this crash happened again on the same amd64 machine, but with the
Oneiric amd64 20110527 live CD, and in a Unity session. Therefore, this
bug is not specific to classic desktops.

About twenty minutes later in that same Unity session, bug 789961
occurred (in the indicator-datetime-preferences executable), which is
also a SIGABRT in g_option_context_parse(), and which has a very similar
looking stack trace. As I surmised in that bug, perhaps the two bugs are
really the same bug (in libgtk2.0-0 or libglib2.0-0). Or perhaps they
are merely similar bugs where gnome-user-share and indicator-datetime
both attempt to use one of those libraries in the same (bad) way.

[Bug 788714] Re: gnome-user-share crashed with SIGABRT in g_option_context_parse()

To clarify, the recurrence was in a unity-2d session, not a regular
unity session, so it is still possible that this bug does not occur in
3D graphics accelerated Unity desktops.

[Bug 553162] Re: Set $LANGUAGE if the user picks a different locale in gdm, so that language-selector and gdm stop disagreeing

2011-05-29 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
@dreamon
You are probably right when assuming that your observations are related to the
fixes of this bug.

If your regional formats setting (second tab in Language Support) is
something else but Chinese (China), your choosing Chinese (China) as
the display language makes gdm set the LC_MESSAGES variable to
zh_CN.UTF-8. Since LC_MESSAGES overrides LANG, setting LANG before
launching an app is not sufficient. Try this instead:

env LC_MESSAGES=en_US.UTF-8 firefox

[Bug 666418] Re: gnome-terminal.wrapper doesn't wait until program finishes

2011-05-29 Thread Beni Cherniavsky
Yes, the situation is the same on natty.

Googling more, it seems there is a similar situation with konsole.
So to portably launch a command in a terminal and wait for it to finish, one
currently needs to special-case each terminal, like
http://hg.netbeans.org/cnd-main/file/tip/cnd.debugger.gdb/src/org/netbeans/modules/cnd/debugger/gdb/proxy/ExternalTerminal.java#l209

I didn't find a proper definition of how x-terminal-emulator SHOULD behave, but:
- http://bugs.debian.org/481123 says Without such an option, urxvtc cannot be
an x-terminal-emulator alternative, because x-terminal-emulator is expected not
to return before the terminal window is closed.
- It's clearly intended to be xterm-compatible, and xterm -e command waits.
- If it waits, caller has freedom to background it; if it doesn't caller has
*no way* to wait for completion of command.

[Bug 144331] Re: when selecting the Select Today option, calendar goes to following week.

I also have the same issue in Evolution 2.30.3 Ubuntu 10.10. Work weeks
starts on Saturday, 7-day week. Currently Sunday, 5/29 and selecting
Select Today pulls the calendar a week forward in work week view.

[Bug 790023] [NEW] send to mail recipient option not present on right click of file in 11.04 Unity desktop

2011-05-29 Thread Martin G Miller
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

In all previous versions of Ubuntu/Gnome, right clicking a file gives a
context menu including the choice to send to mail recipient. In 11.04
with the Unity DE, in both 32 and 64 bit versions, this option is
missing. The only choice seems to be a window that sends the file to
CD/DVD creator, instant message, bluetooth or removable disk. The
option of sending to an email recipient is gone.

Ubuntu 11.04 both 32 bit and 64 bit
Nautilus version: 1:2.32.2.1-0ubuntu13 (32 bit)

What I expected to happen:
Right click a file and the context menu allows you to quickly select Send to
email recipient.

What happened instead:
The right click context menu entry opens a window that only offers to send the
file to CD/DVD Creator

[Bug 790000] Re: Error in German translation: Both radians and gradians are translated as Neugrad

2011-05-29 Thread Marcel Stimberg
Thanks for the bug report. I seems to be an error in the German translation, if
you start with an English locale you get
xx degrees = yy radians
or
xx degrees = yy gradians
but in the German translation you always get
xx Grad == yy Neugrad.
This is only the correct translation for gradians (BTW: Wikipedia says
Neugrad is obsolete, the correct term apparently is now Gon :-))and not for
radians.

** Summary changed:

I believe this bug should be marked as fix. The toggle is available in

users who wish to revert to the old functionality can just add it next
to the Location Bar.

[Bug 771308] Re: unity top bar using incorrect color scheme and icon set intermittantly

2011-05-29 Thread adempewolff
same problem. had it while testing the beta in virtualbox (I remember
seeing someone posting a workaround for it then, but I can't remember it
now).

I still encounter it on a clean install on my laptop. seems fairly
random when it turns up, but effects the top bar and applications as
described by the other posters. for me, choosing different themes in
the Appearance dialogue didn't fix it, I just restart (or, I'm sure,
anything that restarts the xserver would fix it).
