[Bug 862677] Re: Can no longer create IMAP folders

2011-11-13 Thread Trifon Trifonov
In my case when I tried to switch to IMAP+ the folders stopped loading
at all. Perhaps my server doesn't support it, but this leaves me without
the possibility to create IMAP folders via Evolution.

Using Evolution 3.2. in Oneiric.

[Bug 889940] Re: clicking on folder with open Nautilus instance should open in new tab

2011-11-13 Thread Satchit Bhogle
Put this down as Wishlist, if you like, but I would argue that this is
established behaviour in web browsers. There was a paradigm shift from
multiple windows to multiple tabs in order to reduce clutter, and all
major browsers on all PC and tablet platforms today subscribe to this
paradigm. It is easier to shift between tabs in the same window, as
compared to windows (which would require activating Scale when there are
several windows open). It is also easier to drag between tabs as the
distance travelled by the mouse would be smaller. Even without a mouse,
Ctrl+C, Alt+#, Ctrl+V is easier than switching windows because Alt+Tab
is now an application switcher rather than a window switcher.

[Bug 253546] Re: Use intuitive popup scrollbars

2011-11-13 Thread Marja Erwin
I'd call this a bug. The visible-on-mouseover scrollbars introduced in
11.04 are slow, are unreliable, and are a usability/accessibility
nightmare. The old-style scrollbars at least worked.

Suggested fix: open the software center and disable the new-style
scrollbars.

[Bug 890055] [NEW] File properties information no longer expands to fit dialog.

2011-11-13 Thread Derek White
Public bug reported:

right-click > Properties

In previous versions, the "Name:", "Location:", etc. fields would expand
to fit the window width.

Now, they are always truncated to about 50% of the dialog's default
width. See attached screen-shot.

This is a horrible usability problem and makes the Search (Ctrl-F)
feature almost useless - I cannot track down the file's location.

Either having the ability to see the full Location in the dialog or the
search results having an "open containing folder" context-menu option
would resolve this issue.

[Bug 890054] [NEW] Ctrl+A does not select text when searching.

2011-11-13 Thread Derek White
Public bug reported:

Bug #523421 is back!

Ctrl-A, when search field is open, selects all files/folders in the
view, instead of selecting the search text.

The one difference between this and #523421 is that even after a search

[Bug 890041] [NEW] "Untitle Document" opens when opening a document using `gksu[do] gedit /path/to/file"`.

2011-11-13 Thread Derek White
Public bug reported:

$ gedit # opens untitled document
$ gedit /path/to/file  # opens file
$ sudo gedit /path/to/file  # opens file
$ gksu gedit /path/to/file # opens file & untitled document
$ gksudo gedit /path/to/file # opens file & untitled document

The "Untitled Document" should only be opened when no file is provided,
according to `man gedit`.

Additionally, when "Untitled Document" is opened unexpectedly via
gksu[do], its tab icon is shown as the rotating "loading" icon.
Occasionally the icon will stop "spinning", when the tab is focused/un-
focused it will continue spinning, until it freezes again. On the other
had, when I expect "Untitled Document" to be opened (e.g. `gedit`), its
tab icon is the proper "plain-text" icon.

@Yann I ran into the same problem in Oneiric, but in fact language-
support-translations-en no longer exists in Oneiric at all! It hasn't
existed for ages. Somehow for both you and me a previous upgrade failed
to remove it from our systems.

[Bug 881955] Re: System monitor freezes up when switching to Processes tab

2011-11-13 Thread markb
Not sure if helpful but further to my above comment I find that gnome-
system-monitor locks up in a futex() call:

stat64("/proc/2426", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0555, st_size=0, ...}) = 0
stat64("/proc/2427", {st_mode=S_IFDIR|0555, st_size=0, ...}) = 0

close(14) = 0
futex(0xb62c8b64, FUTEX_WAKE_PRIVATE, 2147483647) = 0

Sits on last line above at 100% cpu.

If I run transmission-gtk under strace then it won't fail but if I run
it normally and then attach strace after it locks up, then it is also
sitting on a futex() call at 100% cpu (although in this case it also
hangs my gnome-shell session).

[Bug 850914] Re: Unity does not start and the menu for nautilus loads with nothing else

2011-11-13 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
FYI, this issue isn't fully gone--I got into this situation today.
Logging in with the "Ubuntu" session produced the nautilus-menbar-with-
no-launcher issue seen in the screenshots. Logging in with the "Ubuntu
2D" session worked. In ccsm, the Unity plugin was not enabled so I
turned it on, and then I also ran unity --reset. After that the problem
went away.

I have no idea how I got into the situation in the first place.

[Bug 881955] Re: System monitor freezes up when switching to Processes tab

2011-11-13 Thread markb
I am running Oneiric x32 with nvidia driver and also get this problem
when I enable xorg-edgers ppa. Purging that ppa removes the problem.
Does not happen on my intel video laptop with same ppa enabled so seems
xorg-edgers + nvidia (290.06) related?

System monitor lock up is repeatable but other GTK apps lock up also,
e.g. transmission. When it locks up in transmission sometimes my entire
gnome-shell session locks up and I must kill it from a console.

[Bug 890026] [NEW] Custom GNOME panel launcher icons lost upon upgrade to Oneiric

2011-11-13 Thread Tristan Schmelcher
Public bug reported:

One of the user accounts on my system uses GNOME classic and the upgrade
from Natty to Oneiric caused that user's custom panel launcher icons to
be lost. There were two custom launcher icons in the top panel before
the upgrade which the user used as shortcuts for some common tasks.
After upgrading (and reinstalling the classic gnome packages that the
upgrade removed), there were no launcher icons at all in the panel
anymore. I had to look up where the .desktop files used to be stored
(.gnome2/panel2.d/default/launchers/), move them to ~/Desktop, and then
drag them from the desktop to the top panel.

Ironically, Unity handled the situation better; it found the original
.desktop files and presented them as pinned applications in the
launcher. (But this user does not use Unity.) The new gnome-panel in
Oneiric ought to retain support for the old launcher location.

[Bug 890000] [NEW] gnome-settings-daemon crash not responding

2011-11-13 Thread Brian Graham
Public bug reported:

I have not determined a set timeframe for the crash, although it has a
100% chance of happening everytime the computer is running.

If I boot my machine and sit at the login screen for a period of time, the
daemon crashes.
If I watch alot of videos, the daemon crashes.

Restarting the daemon does not fix the problem, I need to force a
restart (as a shutdown will freeze, or take several minutes due to the
crash).

[Bug 18510] Re: Does not remember current song on reopen

2011-11-13 Thread Fred
Awesome! Good job!
I hope the plugin gets accepted upstreams.

But it would be better if it was part of main functionality and standard
behavior since this is so essential that it should not require a plugin.

[Bug 875224] Re: nautilus shows the files with wrong calculated size

2011-11-13 Thread Goyo
It seems like Nautilus used binary units (MiB) before but switched to
decimal units (MB) in Oneiric. Some translations (e.g. spanish) still
use MiB though, so the number and the units do not match in the
translated nautilus. So not a nautilus bug but a translation one.

[Bug 889940] Re: clicking on folder with open Nautilus instance should open in new tab

2011-11-13 Thread Aleksander Śmierciak
I can hardly concur. On small screens it could easily lead to Nautilus'
interface clutter, besides, one cannot be sure if it would really make
it easier for _everyone_, not just for those who have gotten used to the
idea they presented.

In my opinion, this idea could be implemented as an option in
Preferences or some kind of (optional) plugin.

[Bug 883550] Re: LCD brightness NOT restored upon returning from screen lock in GNOME shell

2011-11-13 Thread Pascollin
Workaround :
1- Install xbacklight (sudo apt-get install xbacklight)
2- Disable password after screensaver has locked screen (in system settings /
screen)
3- Create a keystroke shortcut to run "xbacklight -set 100" (in system settings
/ keyboard /shortcut)
Now, when screen brightness is None, use the keystroke to switch the light on

[Bug 889940] [NEW] clicking on folder with open Nautilus instance should open in new tab

2011-11-13 Thread Satchit Bhogle
Public bug reported:

OS: Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric stable 32-bit
Application: Nautilus 3.2.1

When you open a folder placed on the desktop or open a desktop from the
Dash when an instance of Nautilus is already open, the folder should
open in a new tab instead of a new instance. This makes file transfer,
etc easier and reduces the clutter on the desktop.

[Bug 787475] Re: Rhythmbox [0.12.8] & [0.12.5] Not Fetching Album Information From MusicBrainz

2011-11-13 Thread Dan Rollo
Urgh. So why is importance "Undecided"? As I've mentioned in a prior
post, a regression of a feature in a LTS release is a big deal.

Also, according to post:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/rhythmbox/+bug/787475/comments/20 (#20), the
fix is included in the Rhythmbox source tree already, so theoretically,
posting an updated version of this app in the LTS repo will fix this.
How hard would it be to make an updated version of Rhythmbox available
in a LTS 'testing' repo? Then we (the people writing these comments...)
could try out the fix and report here if it works? (Or am I over
simplifying things?)

Given the amount of times this bug has been reviewed/reclassified, it
seems a new version could have been posted to testing repo for the same
effort.

[Bug 863154] Re: Wacom Bamboo One tablet random coordinate malfunctions

2011-11-13 Thread Hans-Peter Jacobs
As Fabien Poulain wrote: with the tablet it happens, but with the
(Logitech) mouse I am totally lost - no way one can draw that way.

This glitch occurs since the upgrade to Ubuntu 11.10 with GIMP 2.6.11.

What I tried (and none of the approaches changed anything):
- uninstalling Compiz
- running xfce, Unity 2D and Gnome classic style
- booting without my Bamboo CTH-460 (and not pluging it in at all)

However, normal operation with the mouse and tablet are fine - e.g.
"krita", games and desktop in general are running well.

[Bug 889911] [NEW] Creating and naming two folders in a row produces an error: "There is no "" in this folder"

2011-11-13 Thread Aleksander Śmierciak
Public bug reported:

What happens:
In Nautilus, when creating two folders an error occurs, preventing creation of
two or more folders in a row (hotkeys, etc.).

Steps to reproduce:
1. Open Nautilus and explore any folder/place.
2. Create a folder using hotkey SHIFT + CTRL + N, type a name for it and press
ENTER.
3. Create a second folder using hotkey SHIFT + CTRL + N, type a name for it and
press ENTER.
4. Most (90%~) of the time*, an error window will show up with text:
"The item could not be renamed
There is no "" in this folder. Perhaps it was just moved or deleted?"
The folder which was created as second will have its name left as "Untitled
Folder".

* it appears to me as if this error shows up only when creating said two
folders in a short time and without changing current selection. Both 32
and 64-bit versions of Ubuntu where tested and it has to be noted that
this misbehaviour isn't quite fresh, actually I do remember it occuring
many times over the last year or so.

Sebastien Bacher, could you please explain why you made the importance of this

It is a very annoying bug for the Java web application developers, the students
who are studying Java web application development and the teachers who need to
mark their assignments.
I don't think we are asking something luxury to have. It is indeed fundamental.

I've found that editing

2011-11-13 Thread edicius
Same behavior here too as well. Very frustrating. Should at the very
least be a 'High' importance.

Ron, I'm using a Mini 9 and honestly, I'm not sure if I've updated the
BIOS ever on here. I'd up it to A07, but haven't had the time as yet to
jump through all the hoops necessary (since the only update I've found
is a Windows executable). Might try it this week and see if it makes any
kind of difference, though with such an unorthodox method of updating
the BIOS, I'm understandably nervous about bricking.

I am able to select higher screen resolutions within the vm. When the
vm has a higher screen resolution, evolution maximizes as expected. So
this is actually interaction issue between unity and evolution for
expecting too much screen real estate.

So I would say that this is indeed related to Bug #23810 but not
necessarily a duplicate of it. I think unity should be able to deal
with applications that expect higher resolutions even if evolution is
not one that shouldn't be expecting it... so maybe this should be
reassigned to unity?
