[Bug 948844] Re: Closing laptop lid does not suspend

2012-03-13 Thread Martin Pitt
OK, so the machinery seems to work. Can you please attach your
~/.xsession-errors, or have a look yourself, searching for "lid",
"suspend", "power", etc.? It might have a relevant error message.

If not, it's worth trying this:

killall gnome-settings-daemon # do it two or three times until it doesn't
auto-respawn
  gnome-settings-daemon --debug 2>&1 | tee /tmp/gsd.log

then close the lid, open it again, Control-C it, and attach
/tmp/gsd.log.

Thanks!

[Bug 954739] [NEW] gnome-display-properties mismatched RandR extension version

2012-03-13 Thread Rick Miller
Public bug reported:

When trying to use gnome-display-properties either through
System->Preferences->Monitors or through command typed into terminal, it always
displays: "Could not get screen information, RANDR extension is too old (must
be at least 1.2)" in a pop-up window. When invoked from the command line, I
also get the following messages in the terminal window:
"(gnome-display-properties:6825): Gtk-WARNING **: Ignoring the separator
setting"

"(gnome-display-properties:6825): Gtk-WARNING **: No object called: "

I typed "xrandr -v" and get:
xrandr program version 1.3.2
Server reports RandR version 1.1

When I try apt-get install x11-xserver-utils (which is supposed to
contain xrandr) it tells me it is already at the current version.

rick@deuce:~$ sudo apt-get install x11-xserver-utils
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
x11-xserver-utils is already the newest version.

[Bug 682788] Re: Global menu is not ergonomical on large screens

2012-03-13 Thread manny
While LIM is a great advancement to solving this bug, but some people
don't seem convinced yet.

So from all the feedback from various discussions (here and on unity-
design), I can only conclude that an alternative worth exploring could
be something combined from these 2 proposals:

http://musl1m.deviantart.com/art/Windicators-well-sort-of-203350326

https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/682788/comments/106

Is still local and integrated, so it might be called "LIM2".

to be fair and not a biased decision, a poll would be nice to see which
one users prefer: prototype LIM1 or prototype LIM2.

The updated games the new application menu which doesn't currently work

[Bug 889019] Re: Xorg uses lots of CPU when a Gtk2 widget has a background image

2012-03-13 Thread darkween
I frequently used GCstar, this bug could not use it more.
I just update to version gtk +2.0 gtk + -2.24.8. (With all depending:
atk-2.2.0; cairo-1.10.2; gdk-pixbuf-2.21.7; pango-1.29.4)
But... This program still fails to work.
Before the update, opening GCstar consumed all the memory of the computer.
Today, after the update, this does not happen, but GCstar not work.
Any solution?

Sorry for my bad English. And thanks for help!

[Bug 954565] Re: Gimp (& Libreoffice) bleed into adjacent workspaces...

2012-03-13 Thread Patrick Gillespie
OK, last post unless asked otherwise. The following pic further
illustrates the mixed up mess that can result.

Originally, Firefox: top right. Chrome: Top Left. GIMP and LIBRE: Bottom
Left. Thunderbird: Bottom Right.

The attachment shows what happened when I tried navigating the open
windows using the Launcher. GIMP was spread across three workspaces.
Chrome was moved beneath Firefox and LIBRE was moved *on top* of
Firefox.

[Bug 954565] Re: Gimp (& Libreoffice) bleed into adjacent workspaces...

2012-03-13 Thread Patrick Gillespie
I was able to produce the Libre Office workspace "bleed" as follows:

Moved Libre Office to bottom left Workspace (four workspaces) in
workspace view. Returned to Workspace One, then clicked on the Libre
Office Icon on the launcher. The result is attached.

Rather than switch to the "bottom left workspace", libre office beld
into the first workspace (top left). Notice how the right side of Libre
overlaps the left side of Firefox. When I clicked on the GIMP icon (on
the launcher) the same thing happened. The rightward side of the GIMP
appeared on the "first" workspace overlapping the left side of firefox.

[Bug 954590] Re: GLib-CRITICAL warning when setting a solid color as background

2012-03-13 Thread Hernando Torque
** Description changed:

When setting a background from 'Colors & Gradients' in the 'Appearance'
pane of g-c-c, I see the following output in ~/.xsession-errors:

  GLib-CRITICAL **: g_variant_new_string: assertion `string != NULL'
  failed

** WARNING **: Failed to set the background '(null)':
  GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.Accounts.Error.Failed: file '[Invalid
UTF-8]' is not a regular file

  Backtrace attached.

  --- Update ---

When I manually set the 'picture-uri' key in
'org.gnome.desktop.background' I can observe the following:

  * If I set it to a path to an existing regular file, prefixed with 'file://',
I see no warnings.
  * If I set it to a path to a non-existing regular file, prefixed with
'file://', I get a 'file ... is not a regular file' warning.
  * If I set it to something not prefixed with 'file://', I see the above two
warnings.

The last case happens every time I set a solid background color in
- 'Appearance', which sets the 'picture-uri' key to null.
+ 'Appearance', which sets the 'picture-uri' key to an empty string ("").

** Description changed:

When setting a background from 'Colors & Gradients' in the 'Appearance'

  GLib-CRITICAL **: g_variant_new_string: assertion `string != NULL'

** WARNING **: Failed to set the background '(null)':
  GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.Accounts.Error.Failed: file '[Invalid
UTF-8]' is not a regular file

  Backtrace attached.
+
+ --- Update ---
+
+ When I manually set the 'picture-uri' key in
+ 'org.gnome.desktop.background' I can observe the following:
+
+ * If I set it to a path to an existing regular file, prefixed with 'file://',
I see no warnings.
+ * If I set it to a path to a non-existing regular file, prefixed with
'file://', I get a 'file ... is not a regular file' warning.
+ * If I set it to something not prefixed with 'file://', I see the above two
warnings.
+
+ The last case happens every time I set a solid background color in
+ 'Appearance', which sets the 'picture-uri' key to null.

[Bug 954612] [NEW] UDF 1.02: Brasero don't have an option to use it.

2012-03-13 Thread Marco
Public bug reported:

Brasero users can't use the UDF–ISO-9660 bridge feature from growisofs.

DVD-Video uses UDF 1.02, what is a most reliable and compatible option
for long file names than MSFT's Joliet limited naming scheme[1].

The message

"Some files don't have a suitable name for a fully Windows-compatible CD.
Those names should be changed and truncated to 64 characters"

becomes unnecessary by the use of UDF. UDF supports 256 bytes in file
names and 1023 bytes in the path.

Even in MSFT Windows, UDF is a better choice for back-up copy than
Joliet.

[Bug 954603] [NEW] "Web" menu missing from Epiphany on Unity

2012-03-13 Thread Newfie
Public bug reported:

Using GNOME Shell and the Epiphany browser, there's a "Web" entry. This
menu contains important features which are inaccessible outside of this
menu. While using Unity, there is no "Web" menu. This cripples Epiphany
in Unity by blocking users from the Preferences menu and other useful
features.

Reproduce:

1) Install epiphany-browser
2) In Unity, run Epiphany. Try to find the "Web" menu.
3) Log out, and log into GNOME Shell. Epiphany should show a "Web" entry.

See screenshot for how it looks in Shell (the correct way).

[Bug 954565] [NEW] Gimp (& Libreoffice) bleed into adjacent workspaces...

2012-03-13 Thread Patrick Gillespie
Public bug reported:

Unity 12.04 Beta 2

1.) When switching workspaces I notice that both Gimp and Libreoffice
(unmaximized) bleed (move) into adjacent workspaces.

2.) I notice that when I move the GIMP toolbar back to the correct
workspace, if the toolbar originally moved incompeletely "upward" into
the workspace above, "a ghost" of the toolbar will remain beneath the
transparent Unity panel (even after the panel has been moved).

2012-03-13 Thread Ahmed El-Mahmoudy
Backtrace for /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gnome-settings-daemon

Funny thing is that I wasn't able to attach to the process unless I used
sudo (although the process was owned by my user!!)

Another funny thing is that after detaching (or maybe that happened
after attaching), the process stopped hogging the CPU.

Re: [Bug 953925] Re: Google talk connection using empathy gives "Authenication failed" at sign on

2012-03-13 Thread rudolph-est
I've been having the same problem for a week or so.

At every startup of Empathy, I would get the authentication problem.
Sometimes it would take 2 or 3 retry attempts and the connection would
finally succeed. Other times the connection would never succeed.

As usual, it seems that the bug has disappeared now that I have reported
it! When I logged into Empathy tonight, I had no trouble logging in at
all. I assume it might be a difference between my home and work
networks. I will follow up tomorrow.

If the problem re-appears, I will update the AuthClient and MC log
files.

about eog is slow to start, but this bug report is about preloading the
next picture. (Btw eog doesn't start slowly for me anymore, I just

[Bug 398254] Re: Can't paste into the folder in List view

2012-03-13 Thread TheMarquis
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 51043 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/51043

why is this bug still not solved? all you'd have to change is to either
have a free line at all times at the bottom OR have an empty column at
the side that allows you to paste when clicked inside it.

Is that so hard to program? If I had any experience with the programming
language nautilus is written(C GTK+) in I'd do it myself.

I also read accounts from years back about this, THIS HASN'T BEEN SOLVED
FOR YEARS???

[Bug 947425] Re: background color of the background options screen is wrong (color mismatch)

2012-03-13 Thread lenooh
I did some further research.

1. this bug is not present in precise alpha 1 (but the UI has changed since)
2. the color around the screen is always the same as the color around the tabs.
Changing to a theme that has both of these colors same "fixes" this bug (like
the provided high contrast theme).
3. I browsed the code of gnome-control-center in launchpad, and am quite
confident that the primary-color (pcolor) and secondary-color (scolor) got
mixed up. The code is in the file:
http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/precise/gnome-control-center/precise/view/head:/panels/background/cc-background-panel.c

[Bug 954391] [NEW] "something" is performing a controlled system shutdown

2012-03-13 Thread James Hunt
Public bug reported:

I'm not entirely sure where or why this is happening, but I have seen on
~5 occasions now my system spontaneously switch off.

Initially, I thought it might be an init/kernel issue, but today I saw
the problem occur twice and crucially, I also got to see the console and
there was no kernel panic - the system was shutting itself down cleanly
as if the user had typed, "sudo shutdown -h now" or selected "shutdown"
on the Unity panel.

I'm seeing this on a fully updated Precise system. I'm wondering what
higher-level parts of the system might possibly be invoking "/usr/lib
/indicator-session/gtk-logout-helper --shutdown" or the D-Bus
org.freedesktop.ConsoleKit.Manager.Stop() method?

[Bug 953169] Re: [soundnua]: gnome-control-center crashed with SIGABRT in pa_context_set_card_profile_by_index()

2012-03-13 Thread Conor Curran
Hi,
Could you provide some background to how the crash occurred. Also from command
line could you type 'pactl list cards' (while making sure all audio devices
that were present when the crash happened are plugged in).
Please paste the output of that command here.

Thank you !
Conor

[Bug 32484] Re: selection should default to free space

2012-03-13 Thread Curtis Gedak
> Maybe the create menu option just needs to be enabled regardless
> of what you have selected.

This might be a good solution to this request.

The create "New" partition menu would always be available.

There would be three scenarios to handle:

A) If the user had pre-selected unallocated space.
In this case the usual dialog for creating a new partition would be
displayed.

B) If a user had pre-selected a formatted partition.
In this case we have some options:
   i) the user could be warned by a dialog to select unallocated space
only (I prefer this option)
ii) the user could be prompted with a dialog to format the existing
partition and lose the data

C) If the user had pre-selected neither unallocated space, nor a formatted
partition.
In this case the user could be prompted with dialog to select unallocated
space.

Does the above sound reasonable, or is there perhaps a better way to
address this?
