[Bug 1000545] Re: Update to 3.5.2
As Cimi pointed out it seems to be a packaging bug as the theme modules weren't being loaded. I've fixed that by adding back debian/patches/061_multiarch_module_fallback.patch as the theme packages don't have the modules in a versioned library directory. However GTK+ now crashes when loading the modules, so more investigation required. ** Changed in: light-themes (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Invalid ** Changed in: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) Status: Fix Committed => In Progress ** Changed in: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Robert Ancell (robert-ancell) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gtk+3.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1000545 Title: Update to 3.5.2 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+3.0/+bug/1000545/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity menus
I can't stand the global menu. I've switched away from unity as a result. As a developer, I constantly have a bunch of 'layers' of windows open. For example, I might have a terminal window open in the background, my IDE over top of that, and finally my web browser for testing the site I'm developing. Now I refreshed a page on the website and I want to see my terminal in the background (instead of my IDE) to see some output...except I can't just minimize the IDE like I could with previous versions of Ubuntu-- because there is no minimize button until I click on my IDE and then move the mouse all the way up to the top-right corner of the screen. Unity totally interrupts my workflow with the global menu and also the screwed up ALT+TAB order and behavior and all the shortcut keys its taken over. [Bug 1002537] [NEW] Shotwell "Send To Email" doesn't attach multiple photos
Public bug reported: 1) Open Shotwell 2) Select multiple more than one photo from your library 3) Right click on the selection and choose "Send To..." 4) At "Send To" window accept default settings and click OK. 5) Choose "Send as: Email" and click send. Result: Thunderbird opens but there' just one photo attached to the email, not all of them. Expected result: All photos should be attached to the email. Workaround: At the "Send To" dialog window use the "Scaling constraint" to change the size and then all photos will be attached to the email. I can reproduce this every time. I have used small photos so that the size of the attachment won't be a problem. I'm not sure it's a regression but I don't remember having this issue in Oneiric. I will test with Evolution if necessary. Thank you Karolis! I downloaded your file and merged the duplicate blocks (search + replace). It's 330 lines now, instead of 3900. It was also the first process to quit after the creation of .goutputstream-*. Now, in a Xfce session, we have lightdm spawning right before .goutputstream-* is created and quitting afterwards again. It's not a proof, but an indication. And I have no clue why it is started (by user 1000!) at all ... [Bug 990725] Re: Shotwell will not detect mts moviefiles on memory card
Hi Sebastien, Where do the videos normally get written to on a Lumix? Due to a workaround to some problems between GPhoto and many Android devices (http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/1903), we've had to explicitly whitelist directories we want it to tell us about. (I admit this is a suboptimal way of solving the issue, but at the time the initial bugfix was applied, it was too late in the development cycle to try to get GPhoto fixed; in order to help current users, we'll whitelist whatever directory you specify, with the understanding that we should try to help GPhoto have the ability to report the existence of .nomedia files (please see http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/4238 for details)). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to shotwell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/990725 Title: Shotwell will not detect mts moviefiles on memory card To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shotwell/+bug/990725/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1001868] Re: Selecting property file or folder freezing it
Sorry but I am not really expert in that I have read the debugging tutorial and I tried to use Gdb and Valgrind I succeed in use them with a program like Vlc but with nautilus that should be the program to test as a matter of fact I have to open properties of folder or file with right mouse button I can't use them because both of them run and then exit automatically without waiting the generation of event like it happens instead using Vlc as program. So I can't test anything because I have no time to perform any actions necessary to reproduce the crash as tutorial tells. I don't know where I am wrong using these commands. If someone can help me I can try to go ahead. I run the following commands as show in tutorial: Gdb: gdb nautilus 2>&1 | tee ~/gdb-nautilus.txt handle SIG33 pass nostop noprint set pagination 0 run Valgrind: G_SLICE=always-malloc G_DEBUG=gc-friendly valgrind -v --tool=memcheck --leak-check=full --num-callers=40 --log-file=valgrind.log nautilus -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1001868 Title: Selecting property file or folder freezing it To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/1001868/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity menus
I have found that sometimes icons in the sidebar are mysteriously coalesced. For instance, I've had Chrome and gedit merge into a single icon, and clicking it would bring up the windows for both. However, this happens too seldom to be reproducible, and I am not sure it has happened in 12.04 yet, so I have no idea if it has been fixed yet. But that is fairly offtopic for this bug. For this, I agree: Hiding the menu is TERRIBLE for usability. Please don't fall into the trap of trying to reduce "clutter" by sacrificing usability. "Clutter" is NOT always a problem that needs to be fixed. Sometimes you really do need it. There is a reason the menu bar is always visible on Mac OS X. Apple does put a lot of effort into usability. Hiding it destroys most of the benefits of a global menu bar, rendering it mostly useless. The fact that you can no longer aim at the entry you need is a serious problem with this design. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to metacity in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/682788 Title: Improve Unity menus To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ayatana-design/+bug/682788/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 585592] Re: Bluetooth PIN always random
Using Ubuntu 12.04. This is hilarious. You connect a device that doesn't even have keys (e.g. a wireless touchpad), bluetooth-wizard tells you that it it is a "Tablet" but if you use "automatic pin", it still tells you to enter a six-digit number into the *touchpad*. It should know better. Then you select "use ", click next, what do you get? "Enter 518421 at the other device." :( Then you select "use custom pin", enter yourself, click next. "Enter 518421 at the other device.". It just doesn't care what the user wants. Where is the upstream place to report this? Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity menus
One reason "use global menu only for maximized windows" is a bad idea because you shouldn't be trying to encourage people to be maximising windows. The reason we have larger screens is so we can fit more than one window on the screen at any one time, I usually have several. Microsoft Windows users are the main culprits of the "maximize everything" culture and this is not something anyone should be aiming for. What OSX does with it's permanent menus actually works well and I've never heard any complaints about it. Everyone who has been forced to use Unity at the company I work for has complained about this particular aspect of it. The solution is easy, just enable always visible Global Menus, or at-least allow us the option to enable then.

[Bug 682788] Re: Improve Unity menus
Please, oh Ubuntu gods, allow the Global application menu to always be visible! There's nothing worse than having to move your mouse around to discover what might be or might not be there. It takes all the snappiness out of the interface. This fading menu is a terrible idea! It means I have to continuosly hover my mouse over the top bar to see what the options are. How is this good? Even when I can remember what the menu options are, I still have to first move my mouse to the top and then move accross to the exact location of the menu item. It really slows my workflow down. Please fix it! The Unity interface is so nearly great!. it just has a few massive usability issues that stop it from being great. [Bug 984785] Re: .goutputstream files polluting $HOME
Summary of previous comments: - blank files (#25, #31) or partial copies of .Xauthority (#11, #15, #26 / #28, mine too) - in Ubuntu and Xubuntu (files shown by Nautilus, Thunar and ls; no file manager problem) - created on direct shutdown (but not logout -> shutdown) Workaround: put 'sh -c "rm ~/.goutputstream-*"' (without the single quotes) into autorun My Software: - Ubuntu 12.04 amd64 (up-to-date) - file-roller installed but usually not running (also not running on shutdown: see below) - No gtk-recordmydesktop, Dropbox or UbuntuOne. I tried to find out which software is creating these files. I used (e.g.) inotifywait (package inotify-tools) and lsof, but it didn't work out. Probably the .goutputstream-* files are open only very short (too short for my script to catch it although run with niceness -19). Then I simply logged all processes running with my UID (1000) in an endless loop (i.e. until the script was terminated because of shutdown). I'll attach the script and its shortened output (removed duplicate blocks with no changes in process list and many blocks at the beginning). The output also contains a line stating "FILE CREATED!!!" when the ~/.goutputstream-* file is created. Just before / after this gnome- session quits and lightdm is started by UID 1000 (not root as usual). I don't know, why it is started, but it is also the next process which quits. lightdm also uses the ~/.Xauthority file. See strings `which lightdm` | grep -iE 'output|xauth' and the source code of lightdm: grep -ri xauthority /path/to/source/of/lightdm-1.2.1/src/ lightdm is used by Ubuntu and Xubuntu, but not Kubuntu. This fits to the previous comments. [Bug 965953] Re: indicator applet with scroll arrows
After messing around with the patch some more, the issue I mentioned above seems to be that the menu is being generated super-tall, then shrunk back to size almost instantly. I somehow managed to get the super-tall menu to stay open for both the Dropbox and Battery indicators. Not as huge an issue as completely unusable indicators (like before Jiahua's patch) but still a very noticeable UX issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/965953 Title: indicator applet with scroll arrows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gtk/+bug/965953/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 965953] Re: indicator applet with scroll arrows
Thanks Jiahua, I was able to test it out with your instructions. It looks like your patch fixes the problem, thanks! However there's a slight issue: with the patch applied, when you open an indicator, the menu flickers near the top of the screen for a split second before aligning back down to the bottom where it should be. (Or perhaps the menu opens up to double-size and the instantly shrinks back to normal size, it goes so fast it's hard to tell.) This doesn't seem to affect usability, but it's very noticeable and detracts a bit from the smoothness of the UI. Is there anything that can be done for that? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/965953 Title: indicator applet with scroll arrows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gtk/+bug/965953/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
