[Bug 780117] Re: Brasero finishes without error but unusable media [on-the-fly mode] (Ubuntu 11.04 ->12.04)

2012-10-11 Thread Thomas Schmitt
Hi,

for completeness: One of the two Debian patches replaces
the theory of SAO-versus-TAO.
It turned out that the function, which transmits the
libisofs image data to the burn software, dropped every
second data block. (Actually the first block of each pair
of blocks.)
  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/attachment.cgi?id=226272
The bug was obviously introduced two years ago by
changes which are announced at:
  https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=630651#c12

This explains many of the follow-ups here.
But not the original report where libisofs and growisofs
ended after only half of the work was done.

Have a nice day :)

Thomas

[Bug 1055766] Re: grep -R doesn't automatically search amazon

2012-10-11 Thread rupa
I've been following this bug with some interest. A lot of good ideas
here, but there are some technical issues that haven't been addressed.

Until all the common unix utilities can be upgraded to be affiliate-
aware, common pipe operations might suffer from related amazon results.
if you pipe grep into awk for example, without being able to be sure of
the results, things can get messy.

I feel this issue can be solved by introducing a new 'default' file
descriptor. In addition to 'stdout' and 'stderr', I propose a
'stdaffiliate' file descriptor, and amazon results can go there. This
would allow us to see relevant results in the terminal, but keep them
out of pipes unless purposely redirected.

Re: [Bug 1065347] Re: No visual notification on contact log in/log out in Gnome3.6

2012-10-11 Thread Tyler
Under Empathy->Preferences, I do not have a "Notification" tab, and I don't
see an option like "Enable notifications when a contact comes
(online/offline)" in any of the preferences menus.

The only options that I see for contacts coming online/offline is to play a
sound for them, I have those checked and those DO work.

2012-10-11 Thread Brian Curtis
Thanks for your bug report and helping to make Ubuntu better. What
version of empathy are you using? 'empathy --version' in terminal. Do
the messages come in at the same time where as the first may show but be
overlapped with the second message, or are they far enough apart that
the first message is not shown.

[Bug 1065347] Re: No visual notification on contact log in/log out in Gnome3.6

2012-10-11 Thread Brian Curtis
Thanks for your bug report and helping to make Ubuntu better. I can not
reproduce your issue right now. In Empathy->Preferences notification tab
make sure that the checkbox next to "Enable notifications when a contact
comes (online/offline)" and make sure that you are not away or busy if
you have that checkbox marked. Let me know that these are set OK, they
may have been switched off/on in an update

[Bug 1055766] Re: grep -R doesn't automatically search amazon

2012-10-11 Thread Timo Witte
maybe we should implement libgrepmazon which handles the request in a
different thread, it could be reused in other packages like "command-
not-found" or "binutils" aswell.

I think because everyone out there has 1Gbit internetaccess via fibre
wire, we can safely make this singlethreaded, because it will only block
and make the commands it´s integrated with useless for a the event that
the amazon servers are down or you don´t have an internet connection, as
this will NEVER ever happen, we can safely asume that 100ms - 10seconds
of wait time per command can be tolreated by a user (must be, because we
say so).

2012-10-11 Thread Lucas Beeler
This issue is known upstream and is ticketed here:
http://redmine.yorba.org/issues/5986

In the meantime, a workaround is this: whenever you switch your library,
wipe out your ~/.cache/shotwell directory. This will cause Shotwell to
generate new thumbnails appropriate for the current library.

Appears that Shotwell maintains a single cache of thumnails in
~/.cache/shotwell/thumbs of the pictures in the database. The problem
is that when using the --datadir (or -d) this same single cache is used
for all databases resulting in the wrong thumbnail being displayed.

This crash seems completely internal to glib. It's because of an assert
that an internal callback is called with the same connection it was

[Bug 1065613] [NEW] Bluetooth stopped working between 12.10 beta 2 and now (days before 12.10 release)

2012-10-11 Thread Steven Roose
Public bug reported:

I upgraded to Ubuntu 12.10 when beta 2 was released. Untill a week after I did,
my Bluetooth worked normally. I was using it daily, so I know it was doing just
fine. I do a system update multiple times a day and since one of those, my
bluetooth stopped working.
Some of the problems are:
- After I open the bluetooth-applet (from gnome-bluetooth) and I want to slide
the ON/OFF switch to ON, it stays on OFF. When I try a second time, it stays at
ON.

- If I scan for devices (and I have another visible device next to it)
it just stays scanning forever without finding anything. (I know
bluetooth is on because I can see my computer on the other device.)

- If I turn off bluetooth from the applet or from the top bar, it stays
on. I stay seeing it on other devices. When I turn it back on and off
some times, it finally gets turned off.

I use a MacBook Pro i5 2.53GHz 15" 2010 in 64-bit.

I filed this for gnome-bluetooth, but probably it's caused by an error
in some underlying bluetooth package. I can find the following in my
update history:

- Mon Oct 1 17:31:20 2012
  Upgraded the following packages:
libbluetooth3 (4.101-0ubuntu5) to 4.101-0ubuntu6
  Installed the following packages:
libbluetooth-dev (4.101-0ubuntu6)

- Mon Oct 1 18:42:04 2012
  Upgraded the following packages:
gir1.2-gnomebluetooth-1.0 (3.5.92-0ubuntu1) to 3.6.0-0ubuntu1
gnome-bluetooth (3.5.92-0ubuntu1) to 3.6.0-0ubuntu1
libgnome-bluetooth11 (3.5.92-0ubuntu1) to 3.6.0-0ubuntu1
  Installed the following packages:
bluetooth (4.101-0ubuntu6)

Will a fix be released before the official Ubuntu 12.10 release?

[Bug 1065307] [NEW] Subsequent attempts to connect to Windows share fails if first attempt fails

2012-10-11 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

This bug is repeatable on 12.04 workstation 64-bit, using the gnome-
session-fallback environment.

On the top panel, click "Places", then "Connect to Server", select the
type "Windows Share", and fill out the essential fields (Server, Share,
Folder, Domain name, User name, and Password). It's been established
that the domain name field must be typed in upper case*, but if on the
first attempt it is typed in lower case (which fails) and then on
subsequent attempts it is retyped in upper case, authentication will
still fail despite the case change.

If you close the "Connect to Server" window and reopen it again, and
enter the domain name in upper case on the first try, it'll work fine.

[Bug 882255] Re: No administrative actions possible (password refused) after enabling passwordless login

2012-10-11 Thread Shaju
i am using 10. 10 .
when an upgrade listed through update-manager i tried for it but cancelled
twice for want of time for downloading.
But when approached for upgrade again , the answer was no upgrade possible.

Run command for listing upgrade through update-manager failed for unknown reason
 repeatedly.
So i un- installed update-manager, and when tried for installing back , the
answer was 'update-manager could not be installed. Update through synaptic also
was blocked. No update or installation of any thing new was refused. On an
attempt to recover update-manager i installed kdb environment , could
installed back up-date manger there. Subsequently the ignome version appeared
back . now the upgrade option is listed back through Update manager.

[Bug 882255] Re: No administrative actions possible (password refused) after enabling passwordless login

2012-10-11 Thread Shaju
I am affected with Password problem . I have been using a strong passwd.
a few days back it began.
While log in i have to enter password for a second time. at first time the log
in window refuse permission. But when entering the password for a second time ,
allows log in.
I am using a laptop and my key board marking are not visible , is using a key
board through usb.
Today I was totally refused login while booting. So I rebooted system and
change my password through recovery , and when came back for login to desktop,
the new password which was by -heart to me was rejected. So i have to went back
repeat pwd change process. Then used the new pwd to log in . the next thing i
did was to log into users and group session and taken option for to log in with
out a password. when rebooted and attempted login , the log in window appeared
and refused entry without password. When i gave my password , allowed log in.
A window option for kerying also is asking similar repeated incident for
password even the correct password is entered. After a few repetition with the
same pass word , it allows acceptance of the same password. something wicked
is playing.

[Bug 1065552] [NEW] Evince doesn't display background gradient

2012-10-11 Thread whochismo
Public bug reported:

Using evince to read a pdf file, the background is shown in white, but
at the moment of printing the document, it appears as a black/darkblue
gradient. If I open the same pdf file with Adobe reader 9 or Okular, the
background is shown properly (just like the printer does).

I'm using evince 3.4.0-0ubuntu1.4 on Ubuntu 12.04 amd64.

none of them were exactly the same.

[Bug 693807] Re: cannot "merge" tags

2012-10-11 Thread Mök Mökson
Tried to find out how to merge 2 tags in shotwell and only found this
bug (and the corresponding upstream bug).

Here's the workaround for as long as there is no direct support in
shotwell:

Tag A and tag A_typo exist. I want all photos tagged A_typo to be tagged
A instead.

I click on tag A_typo, select all photos containing this tag, add tag A to all
selected photos.
Then, I right-click on A_typo and click on Delete in the pop-up menu.

[Bug 861171] Re: Shutdown from greeter does nothing when multiple accounts open

2012-10-11 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
I used this particular problem as an example when redesigning the
PolicyKit prompt.
(In that sketch I also show fingerprint authentication, but you can
ignore that part.)

[Bug 36812]

2012-10-11 Thread Wettstein509
(In reply to comment #107)

> A Windows-only compose key program uses the "ctrl" key as the compose key.
> This is apparently impossible to do in X input methods because you can only
> bind actions to the press of "ctrl".

Of course this is possible. Compose is unrelated to actions in the XKB
meaning of the term. It is not only possible, it is even implemented in
the XIM compose code. You can put

   : ae

and similar stuff in your .XCompose, and your left control key acts as a
Compose key. But you need the latest libX11 for this.
