Not the sort of behaviour that should change without a version change
IMO. This could lead to some laptops overheating/catching fire etc. so
not a good idea at all.

[Bug 984449] Re: Palimpsest doesn't allow precisely-sized partitions

2012-12-09 Thread ceg
Forgot to mention: conifirmed the failure to create lage enough raid
partition when trying to extend a raid 1 with another 333MiB sized
parttion (gui shows 349 MB). Nevertheless, it worked with a 18.62GiB
(20GB) raid.

Seems like messing up with with MB and MiB (MiB being the only sane unit
as this is the default alignment anyway.)

Sorry, I don't think you're going to love this answer, but there's not a
lot X can do about it.

As mentioned in the Ubuntu bug, some games decide to grab the entire
keyboard when running full-screen. This is specified to override
everything else and give that client sole, exclusive, use of the
keyboard. I'm not sure why they do it, but I'm guessing it's so they
can be sure Alt-Tab doesn't accidentally trigger or something, which
would be deliberately disabling hotkeys.

Anyway, if the game developers tell us there are shortcomings in our
input model that we need to fix so they can stop grabbing, we'll be
happy to take a look. But for the moment, we're just doing what we're
told, which is: grab the keyboard to the absolute exclusion of everyone
else.

On 2011-10-26T07:39:47+00:00 Ben Shadwick wrote:

Thanks for your response.

Considering that pretty much every full-screen game I've played under
Linux has suffered from this, I have to believe that it's unintentional
on the game developers' part.

The fact is that we're now faced with a mountain of applications out
there in the wild that are already suffering from this and will
realistically never get fixed to use some alternate keyboard grabbing
mechanism (assuming such a thing is even supplied by xorg and is neither
obscure nor cumbersome to use). It therefore truly, realistically falls
to xorg to decide whether or not to do something to resolve this issue
that is resulting in a frustrating experience for many, many xorg end-
users.

Without any knowledge of xorg's internals, I can think of two
non-mutually-exclusive general design level ideas that might help alleviate the
issue:

1. Some kind of xorg configuration option/mechanism could be provided to
allow distribution creators, system administrators and/or end-users to
choose to exclude the multimedia keys from the global keyboard grabbing
mechanism.

2. Grabbing of multimedia keys could be spun out into a separate xorg
API call or parameter (or whatever an xorg analog of that might be) that
needs to be explicitly called/specified by the developer to signal that
they really, really want to grab and handle those keys.

Call this a feature/enhancement request if you'd like (personally, however, I
strongly feel that it is much more important than that due to a large impact on
end-users) but please don't dismiss it out-of-hand.

Apologies if reopening the bug is a faux-pas. I'm not sure if my reply
would be seen if I didn't do so.

realistically fall onto Xorg - None of these developers would have
wanted to make it happen like this and yet they all end up this way. So
the issue lies with the implementation of keyboard grabbing. Isn't there
a better way to make media key control apply less in blanket
circumstances such as that?

If this isn't in the scope of Xorg's development, hopefully Wayland's
design could have this thought in the process. Regardless, it's a pretty
nasty bug that wouldn't best be solved by asking

[Bug 1062068] Re: evolution-calendar-factory crashed with SIGFPE in g_hash_table_lookup_node()

2012-12-09 Thread Gianluca Tessarolo
@anakin-cs: it is not so simple, I have the same problem, trying to
uninstalling evolution-data-server now indicator-datetime-service
crashes, trying to uninstall indicator-datetime solve the crash problem
but I have no more date-time indicator on my gnome panel.

If I try to reinstall indicator-datetime I must reinstall evolution-
data-server, uh oh seems a weird loop...

Add to rightclick menu.
Copy path - original photo
 modifed photo

Remember currently it's not possible to do something intuitive as
dragging a photo from Shotwell to LibreOffice to make a Christmas card.

That really limit's the usability of Shotwell for users, they can see
photo's but they feel they can't do anything with it.

What I've done:

1) removed evolution-data-server

now indicator-datetime-service crashes at startup so:

2) removed indicator-datetime
3) reinstalled indicator-datetime (+ evolution-data-server)

now unity-scope-gdocs crashes at startup so:

4) forced reinstall of unity-scope-gdocs

Now seems that all is working good (tried poweroff and restart 2 times
and no crashes at all), good luck !

[Bug 1088188] [NEW] Nautilus type-ahead plus mouse

2012-12-09 Thread Donjan Rodic
Public bug reported:

OS: Ubuntu 12.04 amd64, Ubuntu 12.10 amd64, up-to-date Nautilus on each.

Reproduce:
Open directory with lots of subdirs (e.g. 'A...', ... , ''TRD001', 'TRD002',
'TRD003', ...), type first letter of target (e.g. 'T') to jump in that region,
then select it ('TRD003') with the mouse (single-click open) because that's
faster than typing it out or using the unintuitive up/down arrows (left/right
are reserved in this context), especially if you have either a trackpoint or
one hand on the mouse already.

Expected:
Nautilus should do the same af is it was typed out, then the Enter key was hit:
enter the directory and dismiss the search box.

Observed:
The search box in the bottom right corner stays with the letter 'T' typed, even
though we changed into the new subdirectory, making a follow-up type-ahead
awkward.

This has been handled correctly in the previous LTS release: using type-ahead,
then clicking anywhere inside the current directory (both _empty space between
icons_ and another dir/file) made the search box disappear.
The current behaviour is slowing down productivity with Nautilus, and since
most of the botched up Nautilus type-ahead behaviour in recent releases has
been corrected by now, I hope this one will get it's fix too.
Another application doing this correctly and intuitively is Firefox with
find-as-you-type turned on.

[Bug 1088223] [NEW] xchat-gnome shows the join-channel dialog when network connection goes up

2012-12-09 Thread dhenry
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 12.10, when xchat-gnome is running and the network connection is
lost, xchat-gnome automatically disconnects from server.
When the network connection goes up again, xchat-gnome automatically reconnects
to all servers, but then pop ups the join channel dialog (this is no
expected). This should be a simple reconnect operation, not a join server,
chose a channel action. Moreover, it is quite annoying because once connected,
this popup dialog takes the focus over all other applications.

In Ubuntu 11.04, the behaviour was correct.

How ot reproduce:

1) Run xchat-gnome
2) Connect to a server, join any channel
3) Disable networking: you should see xchat-gnome disconnecting
4) Enable networking: once the connection is up, xchat-gnome reconnects to the
server, and once connected it show the join channel dialog.

- the last Nautilus session; but instead with the default size.

[Bug 1088285] [NEW] evince displays only bottom half of text

2012-12-09 Thread Steve Sauls
Public bug reported:

The top half of text is cut off on some documents like my bank
statements which makes me think it is a post script font issue.
However, the same pdf file displays correctly in adobe reader (linux),
xpdf, and gv. Graphics are fine in evince and text is ok in other
documents. I think it must lie with the font used in the document.

I will add this information that I tested this same pdf file with fedora
and it displayed correctly. So, that points to the ubuntu distribution
and fonts. At least to me that is what it points to.

[Bug 707346] Re: Window/toolbar overlap in vertically stacked monitor configuration

2012-12-09 Thread Jherico
This is still present in 12.10. I'm currently running the gnome classic
desktop with compiz and 3 monitors, two of which are stacked
vertically. THe lower of the two contains the gnome panel UI and
maximized windows there are overlapped by the panel. this occurs
whether I'm using the default window manager, or emerald.

[Bug 906084] Re: Add feature: send input to multiple tabs/windows

2012-12-09 Thread Loïc
Hi, same problem for me, using latest Ubuntu distro (12.10) and latest
gnome-terminal in repos (3.6.0).

This feature would be very useful, I also have to install all KDE/Qt
Konsole's dependencies for only one entry in a menu.

So, same question: Would it be possible to add this feature to gnome-
terminal ?

Regards,

[Bug 1088320] [NEW] Rhythmbox playback freezes between songs

2012-12-09 Thread Benjamin Pylko
Public bug reported:

Circumstances: I was playing 2 .ogg files in a loop. Every once in a
while after it finished one it would just stop playing for maybe 30-60
seconds. Hitting pause the hitting play made it start playing again. The
interface indicates that it is playing even when this freeze occurs,
but the time slider does not move and the time label does not change
value.

lsb_release -rd: Description:
Ubuntu 12.10
Release:12.10

apt-cache policy pkgname:
rhythmbox:

Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
 2.97-1ubuntu5 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/main amd64 Packages

What I expected to happen: Rhythmbox to play the next song immediately.

What happened: Rhythmbox stopped playing the file at the beginning (no
movement from time slider), although the play/pause icon indicated that
it was playing.

Notes: I have not done any configuration of Rhythmbox because I hardly
use it, the .ogg files just opened in it by default. They are located in
/tmp because I am playing them from archive manager. I am using the
xorg-edgers ppa, I don't know if this has any possibility of affecting
this.

[Bug 1088333] [NEW] After uploading to Facebook, via ubuntu tag has dead link

2012-12-09 Thread cptNightrain
Public bug reported:

After a photo has been uploaded to facebook from Shotwell, a tag is
added indicating it had been uploaded via ubuntu. The word ubuntu is
clickable, but the link is 404
(https://www.facebook.com/apps/application.php?id=302061903208115). I'm
not sure how you'd go about doing it - obviously through facebook - but
replaceing the dead link with info on ubuntu/Shotwell would be ideal -
others (friends of ubuntu users) who see that tag on an uploaded image
can follow the link and learn more about the project.

[Bug 1072406] Re: /usr/lib/evolution/evolution-calendar-factory consume 99% cpu

2012-12-09 Thread Pat McCaffrey
I am currently affected by this bug. I just did a fresh install of
12.10 today, and this process has been pegged at 100% CPU for a few
hours now.

Killing the process has no effect - it just spawns again.

[Bug 1055766] Re: grep -R doesn't automatically search amazon

2012-12-09 Thread bornagainpenguin
Wow, what a great bug! Someone needs to work on this and set this to
rights, akeane (akeane) said that they would be willing to hack together
a quick patch to enable the expected behavior--is this patch available
for public consumption yet?

[Bug 1088352] Re: gnome-terminal leaks memory on startup after call to g_listenv

2012-12-09 Thread Matt Fischer
Here's a fix for the issue (attached). I looked upstream and while the
issue exists in 3.6.1 it doesn't exist in trunk, so I don't think it
needs to go upstream.

Valgrind summary after applying my fix:
==23336== LEAK SUMMARY:
==23336==definitely lost: 0 bytes in 0 blocks

The patch is pretty simple, just free the list that g_listenv() creates.

** Patch added: fixes the memory leak

[Bug 1088352] [NEW] gnome-terminal leaks memory on startup after call to g_listenv

2012-12-09 Thread Matt Fischer
Public bug reported:

gnome-terminal leaks memory on startup because it calls g_listenv
without freeing the resulting list of strings. Per the docs, this list
must be freed:

http://developer.gnome.org/glib/2.32/glib-Miscellaneous-Utility-
Functions.html#g-listenv

g_listenv(): Returns: a NULL-terminated list of strings which must be
freed with g_strfreev(). [array zero-terminated=1][transfer full]

Here's the valgrind report with the leak:

lost in loss record 5,623 of 5,715

[Bug 561540] Re: Buggy client sent a _NET_ACTIVE_WINDOW message with a timestamp of 0

2012-12-09 Thread dino99
As i get the same issue daily since a long long time, i think its coming from
either synaptic or more probably from metacity (or one of their dependencies).
But that report is so old, and gdm (no more used by default), unity-2d (that
package(s) cant be blamed, i dont use it) and metacity is on the way to be
dropped on the next releases.

@Rolf : what you can do is to clean your system as much as you can
(deborphan/bleachbit) and delete some borked config folders (they are
cleanly recreated on the next boot) like: .gconf, .local, .config,
.gnome2 ; and tweak logrotate if you get too huge log files.
