[Bug 870805] Re: Screen dialog won't remember brightness setting

2013-01-25 Thread gdp77
I verify this problem. (12.04 x64 here installed on toshiba l655
laptop).

It critically affects battery life, so its importance is not jut "low".
Battery life is lower when using ubuntu compared to windows 7, so I
think that it should be fixed as soon as possible.

[Bug 1070290] Re: Folders bookmarks not showing in places

2013-01-25 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Ok, the problem is that GTK, gnome-panel, and nautilus 3.6 switched the
default bookmarks location to use the XDG config directory instead of
spamming the root of the home directory with "dot directories".
Unfortunately for us, when it came time to freeze for Ubuntu 12.10, we
decided to stick with Nautilus 3.4 as Nautilus 3.6 was a significant
rewrite with known problems at that time.

- One fix is to upgrade to Nautilus 3.6 (this has already been done for Ubuntu
13.04). You can also use the GNOME3 PPA for Ubuntu 12.10.
- Or we could backport http://git.gnome.org/browse/nautilus/commit/?id=ed90577
to Ubuntu 12.10
- Or we could revert both the gnome-panel and GTK changes in gnome-panel for
Ubuntu 12.10

Thanks for the workaround!
I didn't have a ~/.config/gtk-3.0 folder for some reason, but with an mkdir
things worked fine:

mkdir ~/.config/gtk-3.0

Another data point:
In Preferences -> Mail Preferences -> HTML Message
check the ''Never load images from the Internet" option

I'll bet that solved the problem rather than a change to evolution.

I haven't had to externally kill evolution since updating my software a few
days ago. I'm hopeful that the program improved. It was quite a
nuisance---every time I wrote a message I had to save a copy of the text before
sending so it wouldn't be lost. I was restarting evolution 8 times a day or
so, and I'm certainly no email "use" record holder.
Thank you.

[Bug 1073363] Re: gvfsd-http memory leak

2013-01-25 Thread Filiprino
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 760344 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/760344

I'm also affected by this bug. gvfsd-http does not close TCP
connections:

gvfsd-htt 4057 filiprino 29u IPv4 2956220 0t0 TCP
aba.local:39878->barbadine.canonical.com:http (CLOSE_WAIT)

That's an example of non closed connection. If I copy images from a
webpage or whatever gvfsd-http can be used for, those connections stay
in CLOSE_WAIT state.

that's why a "precise" line was added to the bug table, I'm unsure it's
worth backporting on nonLTS (e.g quantal) though, that bug has 0
duplicate and 3 affected people, it's pretty much a corner case
impacting very few people

[Bug 1105232] [NEW] Save file dialog causes programme crash when renaming a folder

2013-01-25 Thread sebastian
Public bug reported:

Here is how to reproduce this bug:
* Open gedit
* Type something and click Save as...
* Then click Create New Folder button
* Type the name of the folder and click on it in the dialogue, then go back to
the folder above it
* Now open nautilus, navigate to the folder and rename it

Gedit should now crash. This is repeatable on my system. I am guessing
the same bug can also be found in other programmes that use the nautilus
interface for saving files (have not tested this, but it seems more than
likely). The Create New Folder step above can be skipped, simply
renaming an already existing folder.

This problem is made worse because the Save file dialogue does not
include the option for renaming files there without launching a separate
nautilus instance.

[Bug 1075923] Re: nautilus hangs copying large directories from a samba share

2013-01-25 Thread Bart Jansen
This bug affects me in Ubuntu 12.10 64bit with Gnome Shell.

I am letting MatLab (numerical computing environment) read 'large'
quantities (80 at the moment) of image files of 2MB each. I use the
/run/user/$user/gvfs/... as directory to access. When experimenting I
have also tried letting the MatLab script sleep for 10 seconds in
between reading every image file, but to no avail. Maybe the bug is not
time-related?

Somewhere in the process of reading the files the MatLab script just
freezes and then it does not even react to the abort command Ctrl+C.
After trying to kill the MatLab process using System Monitor or by
running the kill command in terminal, the process becomes a Zombie
process which I cannot kill.

The same happens when copying the files with PC Man FM file manager or
copying using the terminal. I have tried both on a wireless and a wired
network connection.

I hope this information is somehow helpful.

[Bug 1105078] [NEW] Calculations messed up when using radians

2013-01-25 Thread IRIE Shinsuke
Public bug reported:

When using radians as unit of angles, gcalctool returns incorrect
answers.

For example,

acos(-1) -> 180 radians = 10313.24 degrees
cos(3.141592) -> 0.99849715

The correct answers are 3.14159265358979... and -0.99849715,
respectively.

[Bug 910964] Re: Cannot import photos from PTP Camera (Fuji X10)

2013-01-25 Thread Luis Arias
I don't think this has anything to do with Rhythmbox inspite of those
reports. I tried the test and there is nothing related to the issue in
~/.xsession-errors.

On the other hand, I can reproduce the issue in shotwell pretty much
every time with Rhythmbox not running and the MTP plugin disabled in any
case. gphoto2 seems to have improved since the last time I ran these
tests. I need to recharge my camera battery, but I do have a failure
condition for gphoto2 all by itself and will post to the gphoto2 bug as
soon as I can rerun a clean test. I believe the case here was when
letting gvfs-gphoto2-volume-monitor kick in, unmounting the camera when
the Removable Media alert appears, and then running

env LC_ALL=C gphoto2 --debug-logfile=logfile.log --debug --get-all-
thumbnails

I will follow up on this in a little while.

[Bug 1104877] Re: gedit loses cursor when user rolls up its window

2013-01-25 Thread Oleg Moiseichuk
** Description changed:

  System description: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with GNOME Classic (using Compiz);
  gedit version: 3.4.1-0ubuntu1

  Steps to reproduce the bug:
  1. Activate roll up behaviour for the windows using gconf:
/apps/gwd/mouse_wheel_action = shade
  2. Roll up gedit window into window header scrolling up over window titlebar
  3. Unroll gedit window by scrolling down over window titlebar
- After that gedit window loses focus and cursor. Focus can be returned when
you click somewhere in the document, but cursor becomes invisible and you
cannot determine where it is located.
+ After that document editing field loses focus and cursor. Focus can be
returned when you click somewhere in the document, but cursor becomes invisible
and you cannot determine where it is located.

  Workaround:
If you minimize, then restore back gedit window, then cursor reappears and
behaves normally.

[Bug 1071332] Re: Gimp crashes editing a text label

2013-01-25 Thread IanG
In Ubuntu 12.04, I don't quite get the crash, but the text-editor is
buggy. You choose a font, it keeps sans and you have to assign the font
again. After copying a text layer (pretty fundamental to any text effect
operation), it moves the topmost layer on editing.

Really frustrating.

Will go back to 2.6 and hence why official repositories have kept it
there

[Bug 937204] Re: gnome-settings-daemon crashed with signal 5 in _XReply() (XSync, apply_settings)

2013-01-25 Thread Romano Giannetti
I hit (probably) the same bug --- made connecting to my PC via VNC practically
impossible.
Ubuntu 12.10, using gnome-shell. After a few minutes of remote VNC operation
(using JumpDesktop from an iPad), gnome-settings-daemon crashes, and after that
all the applications come out "ugly".
Worse still, logout-login did not solve the problem, because now gnome-shell
didn't start again (respawning too fast), reboot needed.
I do not have a track (yet) so I am not sure this is the same bug --- but it's
easily reproducible. I will try to trigger it when I have a bit of spare time
and report the track.
Nasty.
