[Bug 1162466] Re: GDM wont start on Ubuntu GNOME using Gnome3 ppa

2013-03-31 Thread brian baker
I just had this too with a fresh install of ubuntu-gnome, after install and
update and dist-upgrade everything was fine. I then added the gnome3 and
gnome3-staging and ricotz-testing ppa's and no login prompt or anything just a
blue background and a x cursor. tried lightdm and gdm both the same story.
then i thought hmmm graphics issue again with G-S so installed the
nvidia-current and all was working again. :-)

More specifically, we need your gdm logs but I think apport-collect
will attach them for you.

Otherwise, you can find the logs in ~/.cache/gdm/session.log and
/var/log/gdm/ (:0.log and :0-greeter.log; you'll need to be root to find
those files).

Will try if possible ?
It's kinda catch 22 I have here as I can't login.
I guess I boot into recovery and choose shell mode But then I wouldn't have GDM

Would that be enough information to go on ?
Thanks in advance

2013-03-31 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Stinger, there isn't enough information here for us to figure out what's
wrong. Could you please try running apport-collect 1162466? In the
future, please use ubuntu-bug to report bugs. This is supported for the
GNOME3 PPA packages in Raring since last week.

I don't think the GNOME bug you linked has anything to do with what
you're seeing since gnome-initial-setup has not been packaged for
Ubuntu.

[Bug 958007] Re: First switching of the keyboard layout doesn't update the layout indicator

2013-03-31 Thread Rover
I'm sorry for bothering all the subscribers, but this bug still exists in
Raring. As I can see from the blueprint
https://blueprints.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-r-gnome-fallback , the
keyboard layout indicator will not be rewritten “to be a proper indicator”
within the Raring cycle. Thus, we will have this long-living bug for another
half a year unless it will be fixed.
At the moment, Raring shows promise to be quite good and stable release. Maybe
it is a good time to finally fix this old annoying bug to increase the overall
stability and usability of Raring?..

[Bug 1162475] [NEW] Changing hostname doesn't update /etc/hosts

2013-03-31 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

1a. Run sudo gnome-control-center, or...
1b. Save the gnome-control-center.pkla from
https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-desktop/gnome-control-center/ubuntu/revision/554
 to /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/10-vendor.d/ and then run
gnome-control-center as an admin user

2. Enter the Details panel
3. The "Device name" (hostname) text field should be editable; change the text
to something else.
4. The hostname is updated instantly which can be verified by looking in
/etc/hostname. However /etc/hosts/ is not updated.

The hostnamed documentation at
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/hostnamed says
"To properly handle name lookups with changing local hostnames without having
to edit /etc/hosts for them we recommend using hostnamed in combination with
nss-myhostname: http://0pointer.de/lennart/projects/nss-myhostname/ "

Without /etc/hosts being handled correctly, the hostnamed integration is
only half-working which is why I didn't upload revision 554 to Raring
itself yet.

[Bug 1162471] [NEW] Subscription Request lacks pertinent information

2013-03-31 Thread Stephen Buergler
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 12.10
Release:12.10
empathy:
  Installed: 3.6.0.3-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 3.6.0.3-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 3.6.0.3-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ quantal/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

The Subscription Request dialogue includes almost no information. There are
no links to what service it's talking about. There are no links to this person's
profile page. I also don't see an option to table to request. Do I have to
respond
to it immediately? Is closing the dialogue the same as declining it?
It's also not clear how to get to a list of currently active subscription
requests.
I'm pretty sure I had a bunch of subscription requests but I am unsure where
they went or what happened to them after I closed them.
Why is it called a subscription request anyway?

** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1162466] [NEW] GDM wont start on Ubuntu GNOME using Gnome3 ppa

2013-03-31 Thread Stinger
Public bug reported:

I tried to upgrade to pre Gnome 3.8 by using the Gnome3 ppa, the update
itself went well but when i restarted the only thing I got was the blue
blinds background with a mouse courser, nothing else, no login promt.

I tried hitting Ctrl-Alt-Del which brought up the log out dialog box and
asked if I wanted to log out from GDM-session ? Strange...

I tried pushing the power button once instead which brought up the
shutdown dialog box telling me again I was logged in as GDM ?
