[Bug 1190237] [NEW] Nautilus Search when typing box persists

appears below the bottom-right of Nautilus.

If I enter some text into the box, and then click off of Nautilus into

errors) to the affected components

[Bug 1190253] [NEW] Nautilus no Description in Startup Services (gnome-session-properties)

2013-06-12 Thread Richard Boudreau
Public bug reported:

There is no description in the Startup Services for nautilus in gnome-
session-properties (from gnome-session-bin), which attempts to display
startup applications using the 'Comment' field of the nautilus-
autostart.desktop file. This file does not contain a 'Comment'
descriptor, resulting in a 'No Description' message in the startup
services. The fix for this is to add the 'Comment' line in the nautilus-
autostart.desktop file so it is displayed properly by gnome-session-
properties.

The /etc/xdg/autostart/nautilus-autostart.desktop file should be
modified from  (English):

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Files
Exec=nautilus -n
OnlyShowIn=GNOME;Unity;
AutostartCondition=GSettings org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons
NoDisplay=true
X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=nautilus

To :

[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Files (Nautilus File Manager)
Comment=Set Nautilus to open uri's in new window
Exec=nautilus -n
OnlyShowIn=GNOME;Unity;
AutostartCondition=GSettings org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons
NoDisplay=true
X-Ubuntu-Gettext-Domain=nautilus

Several users keep asking what the service 'Files' does in the Startup
Applications. This should eliminate the users confusion.

This also applies to a number of other .desktop files in the
/etc/xdg/autostart directory, such as ubuntuone, orca, gnome-settings-
daemon, onboard, AT-SPI DBUS-1 Dbus, etc

Hrm, how are you seeing that in gnome-session-properties? The
NoDisplay=true means that that particular entry is hidden from the list,
precisely to not overburden users with information that they don't need.

[Bug 1190253] Re: Nautilus no Description in Startup Services (gnome-session-properties)

2013-06-12 Thread Richard Boudreau
You are correct. This was discovered trom several Ubuntu forum threads
where users are trying to speed up their startup by modifying the
'Nodisplay=true' to 'false'. However, I was using this report to
highlight the issues for ALL the autostart services, which is to say all
of them should have a proper heading and description, e.g. orca,
gwibber, onboard, etc, which a large number of users prefer not to use.
So it is mainly for the sake of streamlining and easing the life of
Ubuntu users once they get past their first experimenting with Ubuntu. I
provide support for replacing Windows with Ubuntu, where users tend to
point at boot times with Windows.

I can provide you with the english and french comments for the missing
autostart comments :-)

[Bug 41427] Re: slow keys can turn on surreptitiously cause confusion.

2013-06-12 Thread Ignacio Larrain
I consider myself an experienced user and had a very hard time figuring
out this. I have had this problem many times, and the only solution I
figured out until now was to reboot.

The problem is Slow Keys are being enabled in GDM even though I'm long
ago logged in, and that anti-feature should be controled by Gnome-Shell,
not GDM once logged in.

By the way: this bug and bug #758335 are very closely related.

The stack trace shows this is happening inside of GStreamer. Shotwell

uses it to create thumbnails, but that happens in a separate process and
shouldn't crash Shotwell.

[Bug 1048059] Re: Adding ACLs to /media/$user does not work

2013-06-12 Thread basiphobe
FWIW, I am still experiencing this bug under Ubuntu 13.04, with all
updates applied (as of 2013-06-12). This is a full install, not a live
install. Changing ownership of /media/$username from root to $username
solves the problem.

[Bug 1189722] [NEW] No applications show in Overview with today's Ubuntu GNOME daily image

Run today's Ubuntu GNOME Saucy daily image.

In the live session, no applications show in the Activities Overview in
the All Applications area or in the dash sidebar.

Manually started apps (from Alt+F2 or by opening a terminal first with
Ctrl+Alt+T) do show up in the Activities Overview as running apps.

See this from ~/.cache/gdm/session.log:
