[Bug 346083] Re: gnome-about-me misses fprintd for fingerprint authentication support
Thanks for packaging fprint. This has been working great for some years now. However with the latest version of Ubuntu (Trusty) a new lock screen was introduced. fprint doesn't work with this lockscreen for me. In lack of another place and in doubt whether this is upstream, I post this bug here. As mentioned, fprint and Unity have been getting along great until I updated to Trusty. When I use Gnome instead of Unity, the Gnome lock screen is used which still supports fprint beautifully. However there is an issue with the new Unity lock screen and fprint. This is what I do: 1) Suspend (e.g. by closing the lid of my Thinkpad) 2) Wake up Laptop and wait for the lock screen to show up 3) See the prompt to swipe my finger where the password prompt usually is (this is expected behaviour!) What I expect: Usually the green LED built in to my fingerprint reader lights up and I am able to login using it. Pressing ESC instead of swiping a finger should fall back to the password prompt (that is what I'm used to from both fprint with earlier versions of Ubuntu and fprint with Gnome). What happens instead: The green light doesn't light up and swiping has no effect. Pressing ESC does not fall back to password prompt. The only way to login is using the menue in the right of the top panel and go to the 'switch user' screen where I can enter my password to login. It almost seems as if the fingerprint reader does not wake up from suspend. However it doesn't seem to be a driver issue because it works flawelessly with Gnome. Any help to fix this is appreciated. I'd also be happy to provide you with more information if necessary. Please tell me if this should be posted upstream. [Bug 1283003] Re: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates
Few days ago after tinkering with bluetooth audio configuration I made to the point where nothing worked, headset wouldn't even connect. Then I replaced broken audio.conf with https://launchpadlibrarian.net/174137125/audio.conf and forgot about it. Today after I connected my headset i got AD2P up and running with no problems. Steps that seem necessary: 1. Replace audio.conf with the one from https://launchpadlibrarian.net/174137125/audio.conf 2. Reboot your computer 3. Remove your bluetooth headset from paired devices 4. Pair your bluetooth headset again. I have no idea why it worked, but next time I'll grep all I can and put it here. [Bug 221112]
(In reply to comment #75) Nicolas, Where does the need to *have* a key for nbsp come from? Because unlike in English most French punctuation symbols require a space (sometimes a short space) before. And if it's not a non-breakable space apps will perform line breaks at the wrong position and you'll end up with orphan sumbols at line starts Online http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Espace_ins%C3%A9cable Actual authoritative reverence (highly recommended if you want to work on any system with French inputs or outputs) http://www.amazon.fr/Lexique-r%C3%A8gles-typographiques-lImprimerie-Nationale/dp/2743304820 Lack of non breakspace on French layouts on some OSes is such a basic problem OpenOffice/LibreOffice had to hardcode a nbspc combo but that does not help when writing in you MUA, your browser, your IM client, etc Isn't a compose combo more appropriate and less error-prone? Compose is not appropriate for basic symbols you need to write pretty much any correct sentence in the target language. And adding a specific input method for one symbol just because some people can't live with the modifier ISO chose for level 5 is disproportionnate. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to rhythmbox in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/221112 Title: Can't use space bar in search bar when using french alternative keyboard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/libgnomekbd/+bug/221112/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1315867] Re: Don't strip XKB grp
Input from upstream: (12:17:39 μμ) rtcm: alkisg: yeah, mutter resolves the ISO_Next_Group keysym to keycodes and installs passive grabs for all those keycodes (12:21:00 μμ) rtcm: alkisg: so yeah, compiz would need something like https://git.gnome.org/browse/mutter/tree/src/core/keybindings.c#n367 So I'm guessing that metacity (which is what gnome-flashback uses) would also need that? Should I put it in the Affects list? Thanks a lot, Alkis ** Description changed: unity-settings-daemon = gsd-keyboard-manager.c has an Ubuntu specific patch that strips the grp: part in XKB options: - if (n_sources 2 || g_strcmp0 (g_getenv (XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP), Unity) == 0) - strip_xkb_option (options, grp:); + if (n_sources 2 || g_strcmp0 (g_getenv (XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP), Unity) == 0) + strip_xkb_option (options, grp:); The original upstream source code is: - if (n_sources 2) - strip_xkb_option (options, grp:); + if (n_sources 2) + strip_xkb_option (options, grp:); That causes a problem: we're no longer able to type e.g. Greek in - TuxPaint, because TuxPaint grabs the keyboard layout, and u-s-d then - doesn't see the layout switching shortcut. + TuxPaint, because TuxPaint grabs the keyboard, and u-s-d then doesn't + see the layout switching shortcut. But: if we do revert only that line of the source code to what's in upstream, then we get another problem: that the XKB-defined layout switching shortcut (e.g. Alt+Shift) doesn't update the keyboard indicator in the panel, only the GNOME-defined shortcut (e.g. Win+Space) does. To solve this, I think u-s-d needs to handle ISO_Next_Group. I don't know if that part exists upstream, but I do know that it works fine in Fedora 20. After solving this bug, a tiny issue will remain: that Alt+Shift inside - keyb-grabbing applications won't update the keyboard indicator. Upstream - GNOME doesn't want patches for that and may try to solve it in SDL, but - the other 2 issues described above ^ are Ubuntu-specific. + keyboard-grabbing applications won't update the keyboard indicator. + Upstream GNOME doesn't want patches for that and may try to solve it in + SDL, but the other 2 issues described above ^ are Ubuntu-specific. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1315867 Title: Don't strip XKB grp To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity-settings-daemon/+bug/1315867/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 221112]
(In reply to comment #76) Compose is not appropriate for basic symbols you need to write pretty much any correct sentence in the target language. And adding a specific input method for one symbol just because some people can't live with the modifier ISO chose for level 5 is disproportionnate. Woow, calm down guys. What's disproportionate is the reaction here! *before* the change this report introduced, and which many of us are trying to get reverted, *both* nbsp and nbspc were easily available: nbsp AltGr+Shift+Space nbspc Ctrl+Shift+Space Reverting the change this report introduced would get this behavior. Please understand we just want to get nbspc moved back where it *was* (or for me, anywhere on a 1-4 level), not removed or anything. Also, realize that currently there is only *one* Level5-specific symbol, and that's nbspc, so we basically have a key only for that.

Ah, thanks for filing that. It was on my TODO list for a week, but didn't get to it yet :) The root cause is that rtc has stopped being a module ages ago. Plan: - fix hw-detect to not put it into /etc/modules any more. While being on that, let's also remove lp, as cups/cups-browsed's init scripts/jobs already load it. - Remove rtc (and lp) on upgrades. [Bug 1313430] Re: Crashes on Ubuntu 14.04 when trying to connect to iPod
This bug affects me too. ipod shuffle 4G; just trying to open the ipod in rhythmbox crashed rhythmbox. This is very annoying. With 13.10 and rhythmbox, I had finally found a way to sync my ipod without using itunes. The upgrade to 14.04 ruined it for me :( I still have my 13.10 install on an external HDD, so I can boot that and use it to sync, but that's a pretty crap workaround. rhythmbox's debug output is strange. (In reply to comment #51) The conversation won't be encrypted until you type /otr start or if the other side request a private conversation. So you should be fine AFAIK. [Bug 1087920] Re: gimp crashes after save as
As I just posted on #1048657 , I had this crash bug in 2.6 and 2.8. It had apparently been caused by an inadvertent substitution of my .X display manager. This substitution also caused shell scripts running as root (on system startup) to fail .X related tasks due to a bad MIT magic cookie and and a lack of proper authorization (gdm was changing the XAUTHORITY cookie directory for my main login at every reboot, so the root user couldn't link to that cookie) In any case sudo apt-get install --reinstall lightdm unity-greeter rm ~/.Xresources rm ~/.Xauthority #without this (and possibly the one above) you may have difficulty logging in to your primary user account sudo dpkg-reconfigure lightdm #select lightdm, rather than gdm, etc echo -e /usr/sbin/lightdm | sudo tee /etc/X11/default-display-manager #this may have been redundant -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gimp in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1087920 Title: gimp crashes after save as To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gimp/+bug/1087920/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1317340] [NEW] NEW LibreOffice Calc window opened from another Calc Window opens an abnormal window
Public bug reported: If we have opened LibreOffice Calc window, and want to open ANOTHER NEW LibreOffice Spreadsheet (File, New, Spreadsheet), then the opened window will be improper: Not heaving a proper header, hence not being able to be grabbed by pointer. You could use Ctrl+Alt+Right to move resize window, than it is normal again (meaning: It has header and can be grabbed, resize etc). It is reproducible every time. But it maybe not the problem of LibreOffice, but Ubuntu (Gnome) Window management). See also bug https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1311980 for this my suspicion (Which also shows inconsistencies with LibreOffice Calc, Thunderbird, Mozilla, namely window just disappear to a single fine line or a small window of 100 x 10 mm.
