[Bug 1416005] [NEW] totem fails to play video if gstreamer-vaapi is installed

2015-01-29 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

If gstreamer-vaapi is installed Totem fails to play anything, and instead just
shows an error popup saying GStreamer encountered a general stream error. The
app doesn't produce any error msg on the terminal, but shows that vaapi is
being used:
...

[Bug 1387303] Re: regression: gnome-keyring components can't be disabled anymore

2015-01-29 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
** Tags added: verification-done-trusty verification-needed-utopic

** Description changed:

- To disable user session gnome-keyring upstart job:
+ To disable gnome-keyring ssh agent,
+ - disable gnome keyring ssh in startup applications

- $ echo manual ~/.config/upstart/gnome-keyring.override
+ To disable gnome-keyring gpg agent,
+ - disable gnome keyring gpg in startup applications

- ... and also disable the XDG auto-start jobs (Startup Applications)
+ If disabled, ssh-agent gpg-agent upstart jobs are used instead.

  =
  SRU tests

By default environment should have SSH GPG agent variables pointing at
  gnome-keyring provided ones.

Disabling gpg or ssh gnome keyring desktop files in Startup
Applications upon next login stock gpg/ssh agent's will be used. (No
gnome-keyring name in the SSH/GPG agent variable values)

Similarly, disabling upstart jobs for ssh or gpg agent also enables
  stock ssh/gpg agents. (e.g. echo manual ~/.config/upstart/gnome-
  keyring-ssh.override)

  =

GNOME Keyring is by default a rather invasive service, which meddles
with security sensitive processes invasively. This may or may not be
wise depending on a users situation.

One particular case is GNOME Keyring's gpg-agent implementation, which
is incomplete and therefore doesn't support GPG's OpenPGP smartcard
support. gpg simply fails (with smartcards) when GNOME Keyring is
  impersonating gpg-agent...

So to be able to use OpenPGP smartcards on Ubuntu, one needs to disable
GNOME Keyring from impersonating gpg-agent, which for quite some time
now has been trivial to effectively do:

  echo 'X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=false' /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-
  keyring-gpg.desktop

With GNOME Keyring's recent update (3.10.1-1ubuntu4.1) in Trusty, this
seems to have been broken by the addition of:

  /usr/share/upstart/sessions/gnome-keyring.conf

So it seems the /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring files are either being
ignored, or the started process is supplanted by the process started by
  the upstart session config.

What is unclear to me is what the upstart session configuration is
supposed to achieve? And if it is meant to supplant the xdg/autostart
files, those should probably have been removed to prevent them from
causing any confusion as to how gnome-keyring is started/managed.

Presuming the upstart session is meant to stay, I would suggest to
remove the /etc/xdg/autostart/gnome-keyring-*.desktop files to prevent
confusion as mentioned above. And in my opinion a mechanism should be
provided so users can control which gnome-keyring components '--
  components=pkcs11,secrets,ssh,gpg' are activated using some
configuration file in /etc, as files in /usr aren't meant to be user
  edited.

[Bug 1415893] [NEW] Scrollbar does not extend to the last pixel on the right when window is maximized

2015-01-29 Thread teo1978
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Disable the crappy overlay scrollbars in Ubuntu
2. open some file in gedit long enough to ensure scrolling
3. maximize the window
4. move the mouse cursor all the way to the right of the screen
5. click and drag up or down

Expected: should be moving the scrollbar

Observed: nothing happens. In order to grab the scrollbar you have to
move a little bit to the left, because the last pixel on the right does
not belong to it.

In other words, the scrollbar fails to be infinitely wide when it
could (and hence should), making it painful to grab.

At first I thought this was generic to Ubuntu's scrollbars, but then I
have tried other programs (which seem to use the standard scrollbars as
far as I can tell) and they don't exhibit the issue.

[Bug 1416081] [NEW] (FreeNX/X2Go) gnome-session crashed with SIGSEGV in gnome_idle_monitor_get_idletime()

2015-01-29 Thread Ryan Tandy
Public bug reported:

The X server used by FreeNX and X2Go does not support the IDLETIME
counter. This eventually leads to a NULL pointer dereference by gnome-
session due to a missing parameter check in
gnome_idle_monitor_get_idletime. This renders GNOME Flashback unusable
via FreeNX/X2Go in Trusty.

Utopic and newer are not affected and the patch is not applicable as the
GnomeIdleMonitor implementation was rewritten. Saucy is also affected
but is EOL, however I would like to fix this in Trusty as the patch is
tiny and IMO obviously correct.

This and bug #1251281 are the only bugs preventing GNOME Flashback being
used via FreeNX/X2Go in Trusty; and the latter has an easy workaround
(divert the acceleration-check helper and replace it with /bin/true) and
may be fixed properly soon.

I would be happy to prepare a debdiff and fill out the SRU template if a
sponsor agrees that the patch is SRUable.

[Bug 1405867] Re: Settings Appearance Wallpaper does not change wallpaper

2015-01-29 Thread Chris J Arges
I have this same issue, I can workaround by changing wallpaper and doing:
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons false
gsettings set org.gnome.desktop.background show-desktop-icons true

[Bug 1416084] [NEW] evince opens documents in tiny windows

2015-01-29 Thread Andreas E.
Public bug reported:

When opening a document in evince, it usually used to open in a
reasonable window size (I don't know, maybe last used size).

However many document now open in an evince window that is as small as
possible (like 20px) and requires upscaling every time. Sometimes, the
document window starts to reduce its size until it hits the minimum size
limit.

This could be related to using a high-dpi screen (=scaling-factor set to
2.0). It could be related to bug #1299054.

[Bug 1407008] Re: Some navigation features broken

2015-01-29 Thread Matthias Jordan
Something that occurred to me today: the navigation is quite fine as
long as the user manages to not place the mouse pointer focus at a bad
place. Example:

In the zoom menu, click on Fit Page. Click on the document to close the drop
down menu. Ctrl-Home, Ctrl-End are broken.
In the zoom menu, click on Fit Width, then on the document. Ctrl-Home,
Ctrl-End are broken. Click the document again: Ctrl-Home, Ctrl-End are fine.
Back on Fit Page. Ctrl-Home, Ctrl-End are broken again.

unity-settings-daemon does fail -- differently, but it does fail. Patch
to follow shortly, after I check vivid...

[Bug 528314] Re: Nautilus hangs after smb share is unavailable

2015-01-29 Thread Carey Underwood
When the smb connection has died, gvfsd-smb doesn't appear to die along
with it, nor restablish a connection. This results in 20 second hangs
when selecting that share in nautilus, or when doing most operations in
the root of a gvfs-fuse mount.
