[Bug 1113420] Re: Alt+ window menu shortcuts cannot be disabled

2015-11-12 Thread Rodrigo
** Description changed:

I find the key ergonomically very useful (it can be pressed with a
thumb without moving any of the "letter" fingers) and I would like to
use it for many custom keyboard shortcuts (there is a reason why it
plays such a big role in Emacs and the whole OS X for that matter).

Currently, though, is hardcoded to activate window menu entries
(such as +F for the file menu, +E for the edit menu) and there
is no way to surpass this functionality in all the applications.
Personally, I find these shortcuts quite useless - they take you to
"copy", "paste", and "open file" which have standard shortcuts anyway
(with the exception of preferences, which for some reason don't have a
standardized shortcut even though that's often the only thing a person
  looks for up there).

  Expected behaviour
  -

- What I would like to see is a global option to disable these alt+ menu
shortcuts to free up the key for other uses (similar to the option
already available in gnome-terminal, only global). Preferably, activating this
option would also remove the first-letter underlining in the menu to indicate
to users that they can't acess it through shortcuts.
-
- (I marked nautilus for apport to collect my version numbers, but this affects
most applications - didn't know what the right target is)

[Bug 1500673] Re: gdm unusable after upgrading to 15.10

2015-11-12 Thread Hans109h
I am following this bug as I had some similar oddities after upgrading
from U.Gnome 15.04 to 15.10. During the install I elected to keep the
existing copy of /etc/gdm/custom.conf because I had made changes to the
"list users" section that I wanted to keep.

Today I decided to replace my existing copy with the dpkg-dist copy, and
low and behold, using that conf got everything back to normal. Just
commenting in case it helps others.

[Bug 1515772] [NEW] Occasional hiccup when opening nautilus

2015-11-12 Thread Shahbaz Youssefi
Public bug reported:

Since the update to Ubuntu 14.04 a few days ago, (today is Nov 12,
2015), there are occasional hiccups when opening nautilus. That is,
sometimes it takes tens of seconds for a new window to open and the
nautilus windows that are already open don't respond either.

I unfortunately don't have a repeatable way to reproduce this.

A relevant piece of information is that I may have a nautilus window
open at a `smb://` address.

[Bug 1400856] Re: GLib-GObject-CRITICAL

2015-11-12 Thread Toan
I compile glib library from source and I learn that if optimization (-Os -O1 or
-O2) was turned on during compilation, particularly when compiling
gobject/gobject.c from glib, can lead to many strange behaviors and errors.

If for somehow, you can try to recompile glib without optimation and see if the
error goes away. thanks

[Bug 1244090] Re: Pressing any global keyboard shortcut causes temporary loss of focus

2015-11-12 Thread Evseev Evgeny
Bug still exists in 15.10. It is extremelly annoying.

Possible workaround:

* Install autokey, add to Startup applications. It handles shortcuts using X
Window System instead of Gnome.
* Add custom scripts to autokey and set shortcuts for them

Keyboard First Layout:
   from subprocess import check_output
   check_output(['gsettings', 'set', 'org.gnome.desktop.input-sources',
'current', '0'])

Keyboard Second Layout:
  from subprocess import check_output
  check_output(['gsettings', 'set', 'org.gnome.desktop.input-sources',
'current', '1'])

Works well with XMind. Gedit search input still lose focus on layout
switch.

[Bug 1292398] Re: Second screen position isn't saved from one session to another

2015-11-12 Thread The Bright Side
Guys, this is just a total shot in the dark and probably won't work, but
has anybody tried installing the nvidia-modprobe package? I did this
some time ago (I think during 14.10) to fix issues with Darktable.
Around the same time, but possibly only later, the second-screen issue
disappeared for me. It never occurred to me until now, but there just
mght be a connection?

I've been using nvidia-modprobe ever since, so I don't know if this has
anything to do with it and frankly, I don't think so. But perhaps give
it a shot and report back?
