[Bug 1717446] Re: Window menus close as soon as they open

2017-10-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
OK, let's use bug 1725708 for the wrongly placed bubble menu.

** Description changed:

Window menus close as soon as they open, if you happen to be moving the
mouse upward very slightly at the same time.

  Test case:
- 1. Move the cursor slowly upward over a window titlebar, and right click on
the titlebar at the same time.
+ 1. Move the cursor slowly upward over Terminal's titlebar, and right click on
the titlebar at the same time.

Expected: Window menu opens and stays open.
Observed: Window menu opens, but immediately closes again.

  ProblemType: Bug
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10
  Package: gnome-shell 3.25.91-0ubuntu5
  ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.12.0-13.14-generic 4.12.10

  ApportVersion: 2.20.7-0ubuntu1
  Architecture: amd64
  Date: Fri Sep 15 14:53:40 2017
  DisplayManager: gdm3
InstallationDate: Installed on 2017-05-03 (135 days ago)
  InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 17.10 "Artful Aardvark" - Alpha amd64 (20170502)

[Bug 1717446] Re: Window menus close as soon as they open (and in some cases minimizes the window)

2017-10-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Whether or not this bug triggers an accidental minimize seems to depend
on the style of the headerbar.

For gedit, the window is accidentally minimized as the bubble menu also
appears too high (so the user is now unwittingly selecting Minimize).
For Terminal however, the accidental minimize does not happen.

Maybe we need a separate bug for those bubble menus appearing too high,
but it's very closely related to this one right now.

Subject: Still not over it.

Right. I simply said I wish it could happen, that's all. It doesn't
require a rehashing of everything that is already basically public
information within the fandom. I'm not sure you are correct that Mic
didn't write his bass lines, but hey, you must be close to the band to
know their writing process that accurately.

behaviour.

Please try to improve the bug description here to be more about the new
behaviour than the old behaviour.

[Bug 1697450] Re: Gnome Shell hangs at startup

2017-10-22 Thread Daniel van Vugt
OK, we're going to need to analyse the hung gnome-shell process. Please
try to do this:

1. Install openssh-server:
   sudo apt install openssh-server
2. Using a second machine, log into the offending machine via SSH:
   ssh @
where is your username, and is either hostname or the
machine's IP address.
3. Reproduce the hang.
4. From your ssh login, run:
   killall -TRAP -u $USER gnome-shell
5. Look in /var/crash for a newly created file, something like
'_usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash'
6. Upload the crash file using this command or similar:
   ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_usr_bin_gnome-shell.1000.crash
7. Tell use the new bug ID that was created.

[Bug 1726205] [NEW] gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in meta_window_get_monitor()

2017-10-22 Thread Eugene Lazutkin
Public bug reported:

Cannot boot 17.10 in the lowlatency kernel (with nomodeset and no
Wayland as recommended by some), but was able to boot in generic.
Picture quality on the screen is very low, hard to read. In lowlatency
it seems as the displays are trying to be set periodically, but nothing
happens.

[Bug 1726195] [NEW] Can't change focus with Alt-`, Alt-Tab when using Sloppy Window Focus

2017-10-22 Thread Jonathan Kamens
Public bug reported:

I have Window Focus set to Sloppy under Windows in gnome-tweak-tool.

When I Alt-` or Alt-Tab to switch to another window, focus switches to

mouse is hovering over.

This is a regression from 17.04.

[Bug 1726143] [NEW] Automatic installation of samba fails with "could not find package libpam-smbpass"

2017-10-22 Thread Paul Smith
Public bug reported:

I actually have no idea if this is really a Nautilus issue but didn't
know where else to file it.

I have a fresh install of ubuntu 17.10. I start nautilus (using File).
I right-click on a folder and select "Local Network Share". When I
select "Share this folder" it says the sharing service is not installed,
so I select "Install Service" and it offers to install samba for me.

I click "install" and it proceeds, then throws up an error dialog:

Could not find package 'libpam-smbpass'

I can see that Samba packages are already installed at this point.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 17.10
Package: nautilus 1:3.26.0-0ubuntu1

[Bug 1722298] Re: keyboard autorepeat not happening when I hold down any key

2017-10-22 Thread Jim Kolberg
I finally got the evemu program to work, same results as above. Now that
I know what module, there are lot of other reports. Looks like a
longterm fix is coming from upstream. Sorry for the dupe, but thanks for
helping track it down and workaround.
