xfce4-session (4.12.1-6ubuntu1) disco; urgency=medium

  * Merge from debian unstable.
- Recommends no longer include xscreensaver (LP: #1754872)

Backport a commit to turn off verbose logging by default.
  + xubuntu_ignore-gdm-lang.patch: do not set $LANG to $GDM_LANG, there's
already an xsession script to do that, and $GDM_LANG might not contain
a valid locale code.
+ 0001-Update-locker-list-in-xflock4.patch: Use locker list from debian

[Bug 1817646] [NEW] locking ubuntu doesn't work properly

2019-02-25 Thread Uğur
Public bug reported:

When you lock ubuntu with keyboard or mouse with the right top menu, the
sidebar stays still. The applications can be run from there. No input we
can provide for these apps, but still we can use every feature the
sidebar provides including starting "Compose new message" window.

The attachment is the screenshot of related to the problem. PrintScreen
button worked and took screenshot of screen, saved it when we are not
logged in. Spotify example is one such example shows the problem. (

[Bug 1817625] Re: Bionic "amplified" sound controls do not sync with volume slider

2019-02-25 Thread Erick Brunzell
** Description changed:

This is intentionally a duplicate of bug #1817485 to collect info on a
fresh vanilla install of 18.04.2 after updating to prove that Ubuntu's
default session is also effected. I just wanted to collect all pertinent
logs to prove that this was in fact an unmolested install.

As in the previously filed bug report once over-amplification is
switched on only the volume slider in the top panel actually increases
- the sound above 100%. Neither the slider in the sound settings UI or the
- keyboard volume hot keys will increase the sound above 100%.
+ the sound above 100%. The slider in the sound settings UI will not
+ increase the sound above 100%. The keyboard hot-keys are also effected
+ in the flashback session, but NOT the default Ubuntu session.

- So, in use as an HTPC, if you're streaming content in full screen and
- have the sound set above 100%, when a blaring loud commercial comes on
- and you turn the volume down with the keyboard hot keys you can't use
- the keyboard hot-keys to return to that over-amplified state.
+ So if using the flashback session, in use as an HTPC, if you're
+ streaming content in full screen and have the sound set above 100%, when
+ a blaring loud commercial comes on and you turn the volume down with the
+ keyboard hot keys you can't use the keyboard hot-keys to return to that
+ over-amplified state. In the default Ubuntu session the hot-keys
+ function as expected.

I'm attaching a screenshot. A logout is necessary for the over-
amplification setting to take effect so the steps to reproduce are as
  follows:

  (1) Open System Settings > Sound
  (2) Toggle Over-Amplification to On
  (3) logout and then log back into the default session (this is required)
  (4) Open System Settings > Sound and toggle the volume slider to the left,
then all the way to the right.
  (5) Click on the volume icon in the top panel and you'll see that it's only
at about 66% - obviously the two should "sync" but do not

[Bug 1817625] Re: Bionic "amplified" sound controls do not sync with volume slider

2019-02-25 Thread Erick Brunzell
One more difference between the default and flashback sessions is that
the keyboard hot-keys DO work in the default Ubuntu session, but NOT in
the flashback session. So that makes this even a lower priority, and
passes part of the responsibility onto the flashback devs.

[Bug 1817485] Re: Bionic "amplified" sound controls do not sync with volume slider

2019-02-25 Thread Erick Brunzell
Actually this specific issue effects the default Ubuntu session as well.
I did a fresh install of 18.04.2, installed updates, rebooted, and
checked it out to be sure. Then I filed bug #1817625 so one or the other
needs to be marked a duplicate (and changed back to "new" rather than
"invalid"). I just wanted to collect all the logs so you could see I'm
not pulling your leg about the default Ubuntu session being effected.

I had not realized that the default Ubuntu session had a UI for over-
amplification whereas flashback session does not. Since it can be set
via dconf I'm unlikely to file a new bug report just for that. I should
however check to be sure flashback doesn't "break" things in a default
session. I just got lazy yesterday and filed this bug report from my
workhorse PC rather than using my friends new HTPC.

I'm going to rinse-n-repeat the steps to reproduce this in that
unmolested install of Bionic. It seems that either a reboot or logout is
needed after selecting over-amplification = on.

[Bug 1817625] [NEW] Bionic "amplified" sound controls do not sync with volume slider

2019-02-25 Thread Erick Brunzell
Public bug reported:

This is intentionally a duplicate of bug #1817485 to collect info on a
fresh vanilla install of 18.04.2 after updating to prove that Ubuntu's
default session is also effected. I just wanted to collect all pertinent
logs to prove that this was in fact an unmolested install.

As in the previously filed bug report once over-amplification is
switched on only the volume slider in the top panel actually increases
the sound above 100%. Neither the slider in the sound settings UI or the
keyboard volume hot keys will increase the sound above 100%.

So, in use as an HTPC, if you're streaming content in full screen and
have the sound set above 100%, when a blaring loud commercial comes on
and you turn the volume down with the keyboard hot keys you can't use
the keyboard hot-keys to return to that over-amplified state.

I'm attaching a screenshot and I'll also update this with a full step by
step process to reproduce the bug. Either a reboot or logout is required
for the changes to take effect after switching over-amplification on (or
maybe off too). I just need to rinse-n-repeat a few times to be sure so
you won't have to waste time trying to reproduce.

[Bug 1817620] [NEW] High cpu usage on alt-tab-ing

2019-02-25 Thread Carl-Erik Kopseng
Public bug reported:

Switching between apps was feeling extremely laggy and unsmooth after
some days of keeping the laptop on and just alt-tab-ing between apps
would keep the cpu consistently at 100% when hitting it more than 8-9
times per second and *not* letting go of Alt (meaning I stay at the same
app).

Also, just whizzing the mouse around on the screen (not moving anything)
would keep the cpu at 40-50%.

Some investigation (1) led me to try out restarting the gnome-shell
instance (killall followed by manually starting it in the terminal),
upon which everything seemed zippy again. No lagginess. The restart was
a supposed fix for a memory leak bug (2), but according to the comments
a bug fix was supposed to have landed in 18.04 long ago. So either this
has not been fixed or this bug is about something else - probably the
latter, as the reported memory usage in htop was nowhere near the
gigabytes of memory reported in the bug issue for 16722297.

Another thing worth mentioning perhaps, based on comments in (3) found
through (4), is that I have disabled all extensions. I used to use the
Coverflow extension.

Expected behaviour:
There should be no percieved lag or stuttering in the interface when switching
between applications.

Actual behaviour:
Switching between applications causes a noticable lag/stuttering when the
computer has been running for an extended period of time (weeks, but where it
has mostly been suspended, meaning actual usage is limited to 3-4 days).

it now. You can either reinstall

[Bug 1772677] Re: gnome-shell filling up syslog with thousands/millions of entries with stack traces ending in osdWindow.js (lines 206/207 in bionic, lines 223/224 in cosmic)

2019-02-25 Thread David
Just installed on my machine. Followed the instructions here:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed to enable the -proposed
in the GUI.

Then I did create sudo vim /etc/apt/preferences.d/proposed-updates to
limit proposed updates.

Then I ran:
sudo apt upgrade
sudo apt install gnome-shell/bionic-proposed

On reboot, I have:
$ gnome-shell --version
GNOME Shell 3.28.3

I've locked my computer for ~5 minutes twice, and have yet to see any
issues in my syslog. I'll continue to monitor.

Also, I had an issue where any time I locked my screen or it went to
sleep, my vms in Virtualbox would freeze and go into a state where I
couldn't interact with them (though I could still ssh into them). That
seems to be fixed here as well. Super excited if true.

Any issue if I go back into preferences and disable -proposed updates
now?

2019-02-25 Thread Pavarin Bhandtivej
** Description changed:

I have enabled the zoom accessibility feature in GNOME Settings in
Ubuntu 18.04.2, but the mouse cursor will be missing every time the
mouse cursor changes to the spinning one (e.g. when the application is

responding). Mouse cursor will be visible again when the cursor changes
back to the normal mouse pointer. This happens in both Ubuntu (Ambiance-
themed) session and the communitheme session. With regard to the display
server, It happens in X.Org, but in Wayland, the spinning cursor is
visible but is not spinning. (It stays still)

  Steps to reproduce.
  1. Go to Settings > Universal Access > Zoom and enable it.
  2. Do something that would normally change mouse cursor to the spinning one.

[Bug 1805444] Re: [nvidia] Fail to launch gnome-shell (Wayland) on Ubuntu with EGLDevice backend

2019-02-25 Thread Iain Lane
** Description changed:

+ [ Description ]
+
Wayland sessions don't work with the Nvidia driver in 18.04, even after
enabling them via the kernel command line 'nvidia-drm.modeset=1'.
+
+ [ Fix ]
+
+ See below for the changes from upstream that fix this, which we're
+ uploading to disco-proposed now.
+
+ [ QA ]
+
+ Under the GNOME Micro Release Exception, you can believe this is fixed.
+
+ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME
+
+ It might be a good idea to test an nvidia machine, but it doesn't need
+ explicit verification.

  [Original description]
Fail to launch gnome-wayland-shell on Ubuntu-18.04 with EGLDevice backend due
to following missing changes in mutter 3.28.3-2~ubuntu18.04.2

  commit 1bf2eb95b502ed0419b0fe8979c022cacaf79e84

renderer/native: Choose first EGL config for non-GBM backends

Commit 712ec30cd9be1f180c3789e7e6a042c5f7b5781d added the logic to only
choose EGL configs that match the GBM_FORMAT_XRGB pixel format.
However, there won't be any EGL config satisfying such criteria for
  non-GBM backends, such as EGLDevice.

This change will let us choose the first EGL config for the EGLDevice
backend, while still forcing GBM_FORMAT_XRGB configs for the GBM
  one.

  commit 8ee14a7cb7e8f072d2731d59c7dc735f83a9bb0b

renderer/native: Also wrap flip closures for EGLStreams

When using the EGLStream backend, the MetaRendererNative passed a
GClosure to KMS when using EGLStreams, but KMS flip callback event
handler in meta-gpu-kms.c expected a closure wrapped in a closure
container, meaning it'd instead crash when using EGLStreams. Make the
flip handler get what it expects also when using EGLStreams by wrapping
the flip closure in the container before handing it over to EGL.
