[Bug 1841886] [NEW] Join Displays failed when using two external monitor of one Full HD and one Ultra HD
Public bug reported: [Summary] Join Displays failed when using two external monitor of one Full HD and one Ultra HD [Reproduce Steps] 1. Boot into the desktop environment with DELL DOCK - WD19 130W [1]. 2. Connect one Ultra HD (3840x2160) external monitor and one Full HD (1920x1080) external monitor. 3. Press Win+P to switch to Join Displays mode. [Results] Expected: All monitors including the internal monitor can display with Full HD (1920x1080). Actual: The Ultra HD monitor can not display. [Additional Information] 1. Using only Ultra HD (3840x2160) external monitor with internal Full HD (1920x1020) display works fine. 2. Executing the command like `xrandr --output eDP-1 --primary --preferred --output DP-1-1 --preferred --left-of eDP-1 --output DP-1-2 --above eDP-1 --mode 1920x1080 --rate 60` can work. (P.S. DP-1-2 is connected to Ultra HD.) Dash to Dock is currently broken as well. This branch https://github.com/3v1n0/dash-to-dock/tree/gnome-3-34 works, but the intelligent autohide brings down the entire gnome shell if enabled. [Bug 1841679] Re: Let GDM timeout and it changes to a blank screen where there is no way to recover
If you know how to log in remotely via SSH then please: 0. Install package 'openssh-server'. 1. Reboot. 2. Log in via ssh from another machine. 3. Write down the PID of the gnome-shell process (that's the login screen GUI). 4. Leave the machine so it times out and the screen blanks. Make sure you can't wake it. 5. Run from ssh: apport-cli --hanging -P `pidof gnome-shell` That should create a new bug report. Tell us the bug ID. 6. If step 5 failed then please check if there is still a gnome-shell process at all. If so then go to step 7. If not, then stop here. 7. Run from ssh: sudo killall -ABRT gnome-shell 8. [Bug 1831369] Re: Gnome Shell pauses and stutters when under heavy load
Please be careful to only discuss one problem per bug report. If you're experiencing multiple problems then please open separate bugs for them. Continuing with this bug... I suspect the problem here is that disk IO is directly affecting animations. They shouldn't normally be related to each other, but one way that can happen is if gnome-shell is blocked in writing a log message. It can become blocked if there are regular log messages being written, and then every 5 seconds the kernel will block in order to flush to disk. Please run this command in a Terminal window: journalctl -f Now reproduce the problem again and please tell us if the Terminal window shows NEW log messages while the freeze/stutter is happening. ** Changed in: gnome-shell (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete ** Summary changed: - Gnome Shell pauses and stutters when under heavy load + Gnome Shell pauses and stutters while waiting (several seconds) for programs to launch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1831369 Title: Gnome Shell pauses and stutters while waiting (several seconds) for programs to launch To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1831369/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1839544] Re: power setting "display off" maximum is 15 minutes, used to have several hour increment values
This should be a very simple thing to fix. And if I knew "C" I would fix it myself. but I don't, my knowledge base is in many other computer programming languages that date all the way back to the 1960's. While I still program computers, now-a-days they are primarily a tool to be used in solving other problems... In my opinion, the best long term fix would be to provide a "[ ] other" box with a way to allow entering the actual idle time desired -- then a user can set it to what ever their circumstances dictates. unfortunately, The concept of "keyboard idle" is not necessarily the best indication of an "unattended terminal". and the futuristic concept of tracking eyeball movements to see if anybody is actually looking at the screen, would probably not be acceptable to most humans. "15 min" of no keyboard/mouse movement is too short a time period, especially when the screen is being used to display reference material. "never" is too long, especially when you need to keep user specific background processes running - or I would simply logoff and log back on later. (One would hope that the user selectable "idle time" values are being translated internally to some form of seconds or minutes, and that they are not simply used to set a series of "bit switches", thus my suggestion to provide a text entry box.) I would also like to suggest that most folks use a computer to solve real world problems, and that computers exist primarily as a tool to be used, and not just as just programming exercises Thank you. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1839544 Title: power setting "display off" maximum is 15 minutes, used to have several hour increment values To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1839544/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 1831369] Re: Gnome Shell pauses and stutters when under heavy load
This problem appears when I use any loading program: Chromium, Firefox, Libreoffice, etc... For example, the Nautilus 3.33.91 bug leads to the endless deletion of files from the recycle bin, which leads to increased load. I feel sticky animations and I/O operations in GNOME Shell. I think GNOME Shell 3.34 have problem with memory leak. ср, 28 авг. 2019 г. в 05:00, Daniel van Vugt : > Are you saying it appears to be fixed now? > > If not then your video seems to suggest part of the problem is also the > snap resource usage on startup.
