Re: [Bug 1842369] Re: Gnome-shell hogs CPU
Manually removing 'system-moni...@paradoxxx.zero.gmail.com' folder found in ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions/ remedied the problem. In other words, uninstalling the extension manually and rebooting lowered gnome-shell cpu usage down to less than 5% on idle. I am currently using Debian 10 Buster with Wayland. This problem is not existing anymore at this release. Wayland no longer uses an extra fence register if dual monitor is used. The kernel I tested, was the one that Kai-Heng Feng linked here: https://bugzilla.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=110511#c25 I'm running Ubuntu 18.04, if that makes any difference. [Bug 1841826] Re: Going to sleep instead of logging in while lid closed & external display
That might be but that doesn't explain why the system goes to the "desktop" straight after pressing the power-button w/o identification. I disabled "energy mode if laptop-lid is closed" in "Tweak" (for gnome), no improvement. If I let open the lid for 2...3 cm it workes, but then the login-screen is always in the built-in laptop-screen. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1841826 Title: Going to sleep instead of logging in while lid closed & external display To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1841826/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

On 2016-12-15T18:58:19+00:00 aaronfranke wrote: Line 430 of gio/glocalfilemonitor.c doesn't handle case G_FILE_MONITOR_EVENT_MOVED, crashing many programs. The list of programs affected includes but is not limited to: xfdesktop https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xfdesktop4/+bug/1598360 pcmanfm https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pcmanfm/+bug/1598488 and caja https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/caja/+bug/1598359 The affected code can be found at https://github.com/GNOME/glib/blob/master/gio/glocalfilemonitor.c and looks like this: switch (event_type) { (other conditions are located here) case G_FILE_MONITOR_EVENT_MOVED: /* was never available in this API */ default: g_assert_not_reached (); } This matches with the g_assertion_message() crash that these programs are experiencing. So, I think we've found the culprit, and the solution would be to do something to handle case G_FILE_MONITOR_EVENT_MOVED so that these programs do not crash. Alternatively, if this API function should never be used, then the maintainers of these programs should be notified of this easily reproducible bug and be shown how to fix it. Right now, many packages that come default on major distros such as Ubuntu flavors are completely broken. Quite disappointed in the kqueue documentation for this: I cannot find a single piece of documentation or example about how NOTE_RENAME is supposed to communicate the new name of the file. Because that would be fixing the symptom of the problem, rather than the underlying cause. This problem hasn’t been fixed already because nobody’s found time to investigate it yet. > Apparently "was never available in this API" is not true because of the list > of affected apps. I just spent a bit of time looking into it, and it seems this is caused by the kqueue backend sending through an invalid event. I’ve attached a patch for that. If you weren’t using FreeBSD (or another system which uses kqueue, like OS X), please let me know. There’s a potential bug in the inotify backend where a -1 return value from ih_mask_to_EventFlags() can be passed through to g_file_monitor_source_handle_event(), but I’m not 100% sure that’s possible due to other checks beforehand. As a result, my Gnome session dies everytime I switch screens. The assertion is not hit on a laptop (with an internal screen) that is connected to the same KVM. You filed this bug report under "budgie-artwork" - budgie uses gnome- screensaver, so I've changed the package for the bug-report. Note though - your bug report also states that your current desktop is "XFCE" - so what are you using? I would recommend that you test this on a clean live session boot of ubuntu budgie 18.04.3 just in-case you have some weird XFCE/Budgie interaction issues. ** Also affects: gnome-screensaver (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** No longer affects: budgie-artwork (Ubuntu) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-screensaver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1842260 Title: lock screen does not fill screen when two monitors are in use To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-screensaver/+bug/1842260/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1841915] Re: black screen, unresponsive, after logout from gnome
After comment #7 it's rather easy for me to reproduce this bug now. Interesting the system log during the hang says: Sep 02 16:56:32 kab systemd-logind[752]: Session 9 logged out. Waiting for processes to exit. So maybe one of these are the issue? [Bug 1841915] Re: black screen, unresponsive, after logout from gnome
Only affects Wayland sessions, not x11. I should have mentioned it earlier, it's been my default for some time now (because #1827428 which still affects latest 19.10) and I forgot. It also seems not to be the upstream bug, unless the discussion there is going off in the wrong directions. They now point the finger at systemd in a bug tracked here: https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/13437 . But I can't reproduce that vt-switching issue. (And our systemd is older than any they're looking at.) I only have a problem at logout. ** Bug watch added: github.com/systemd/systemd/issues #13437 https://github.com/systemd/systemd/issues/13437 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1841915 Title: black screen, unresponsive, after logout from gnome To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1841915/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
