[Bug 1881918] Re: Update GNOME Software to 3.36.1 in Focal

2020-06-16 Thread Robert Ancell
** Description changed:

- Please, consider updating the deb version of GNOME Software to 3.36.1 in
- Ubuntu 20.04. The 3.36.1 release has some important bug fixes,
- translation updates and other things.
+ [ Description ]
+
+ GNOME upstream have released a new stable version of gnome-software.
+
+ [ QA ]
+
+ GNOME has a micro release exception that covers this package.
+
+ https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates/GNOME
+
+ So we don't need to verify the fixes explicitly.
+
+ [ Regression Potential ]
+
+ Changes could cause issues in GNOME Software, which might make it hard
+ to install or remove software. Default store in Ubuntu is snap-store, so
+ this doesn't affect the majority of users.

[Bug 1879234] Re: Clicking Activities does nothing - screen appears to freeze

2020-06-16 Thread Abir
Okk but I've been going through this problem since I left Windows and came to
Ubuntu Linux. My computer is not running smoothly. There are all kinds of
problems. I can't think of anything to do. I'm very worried that you are not
solving the problem properly.
#10 & #11 please I request you to watch the video and fix this problem because
I have been going through this problem for a long time and I can't find any
solution to this problem. No one can fix all the problems of system
software. When I scroll an application after opening the computer, sometimes it
is not working, then it is working in zoom in zoom out, for this I am not able
to do any work well, sometimes the system automatically opens one new tab after
another.

[Bug 1883092] Re: Gnome Shell freeze

2020-06-16 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks for the attachments. Unfortunately I don't see any issue there.

If you mean literally the whole machine fails to boot for the next 30
minutes then it sounds like there's a hardware problem. So maybe a bug
report about the software is inappropriate. But in case that's not what
you mean, please next look for crashes which may be relevant:

1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug.

2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where
ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine.
Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please
send the links to us.

3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921,
reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1.

Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are
unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security
risk for yourself.

[Bug 1876716] Re: Error transferring track: "could not open resource for writing" when copying tracks to library

2020-06-16 Thread crvi
1. Error transferring track: "could not open resource for writing"

This error is displayed if the imported ( copy mode ) song is already
available in Rhythmbox Music Library. So, if you import ( copy mode )
the same song more than once, this message will be displayed. The import
is aborted as a safety measure to avoid unintentionally overwriting your
files in the Music Library ( which might have better metadata tag /
album art than the copy source ). The error message displayed in the
dialog could be better and the UI dialog could offer a choice to "skip /
skip all / overwrite / overwrite all / cancel" to the user. You can open
a new issue on this at

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/rhythmbox/-/issues/new

providing all necessary info.

2. The "error" mentioned in the initial bug description ( Import 4974
listed tracks ) is what I think is a hidden issue. I would guess that
there are duplicate songs / tracks in your iTunes library, which
Rhythmbox import code detects and fails. Try repeating the steps in the
initial bug description ( start from empty Rhythmbox Library ). Capture
the "rhythmbox.log" and attach it here.

Hint: Look for "Could not open resource for writing" string in the
rhythmbox.log. The song listed in the line above this error message is
the duplicate file which causes the import to fail.

3. The "crash" mentioned in the initial bug description is a different
bug tracked in:

https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/rhythmbox/-/issues/1768

You can update it with your findings.

[Bug 1882415] Re: Graphical artifact in top-right corner, owned by ibus-ui-gtk3

2020-06-16 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
@Daniel: The regression caused by the mutter MR I mentioned in comment
#21 is bad for ibus-hangul users (Korean input). Any chance you can take
a look at it?

Besides fixing that ibus-hangul issue, doing so would make it possible
to stop setting GTK_IM_MODULE=ibus on GNOME desktops, which is something
I believe would be desirable for other reasons but this bug.

Tagging rls-gg-notfixing after having it discussed in our meeting, while
it's a bug and should be fixed it only has one report and it's mostly a
cosmectic problem so we don't believe it deserves special tracking

Do you have a special ibus configuration?

Could you try if it happens with a new user account on the same machine?

[Bug 1883292] Re: Laptop not suspending on lid close after external monitors disconnected

2020-06-16 Thread Vadym Abramchuck
Hi Sebastien, thank you for your response!
I've attached the log file obtained via:

journalctl -b 0 > ~/1883292-journalctl-b.log

> that's a process from the gdm user, when did you enter that command
exactly? in your user session unlocked?

Yes, the session was unlocked and my dock station was disconnected.

I haven't restarted Gnome session since I reported the issue; that's
what I'm currently getting with dock *connected*:

$ systemd-inhibit --list --mode=block
WHO UID USER PID COMMWHAT
  WHY
MODE
gdm 123 gdm 1977595 gsd-power handle-lid-switch
External monitor attached or configuration changed recently
block
gdm 123 gdm 1977593 gsd-media-keys
handle-power-key:handle-suspend-key:handle-hibernate-key GNOME handling
keypresses block
abram 1000 abram 779132 gsd-power handle-lid-switch
External monitor attached or configuration changed recently
block
abram 1000 abram 779130 gsd-media-keys
handle-power-key:handle-suspend-key:handle-hibernate-key GNOME handling
keypresses block
abram 1000 abram 778915 gnome-session-b shutdown:sleep
  user session inhibited
block

5 inhibitors listed.

I've just disconnected the dock, waited for a few seconds before laptop screen
lights up and ran the same command again; now there are only 3 inhibitors:

$ systemd-inhibit --list --mode=block
WHO UID USER PID COMM WHAT
 WHY
MODE
gdm 123 gdm 1977595 gsd-power handle-lid-switch
External monitor attached or configuration changed recently
block
gdm 123 gdm 1977593 gsd-media-keys
handle-power-key:handle-suspend-key:handle-hibernate-key GNOME handling
keypresses block
abram 1000 abram 779130 gsd-media-keys
handle-power-key:handle-suspend-key:handle-hibernate-key GNOME handling
keypresses block

3 inhibitors listed.

As you can see, the remaining one is the same 1977595 PID as before.

> did you enter that command exactly? in your user session unlocked?
it's weird that there is a greeter process around, they should be
stopped once the user is logged in

Hmm, I have a different issue which I didn't report yet which I thought
isn't related. Sometimes when I connect the dock OR change one of
displays settings (like orientation) via Gnome UI the laptop screen goes
black. Displays settings UI still shows it as available and I can move
mouse, windows etc where it's supposed to be but it's not showing
anything. I found that switching to greeter via ctrl+alt+f1 (or f2?) and
then back to Gnome session (ctrl+alt+f1/2) fixes this. I believe this is
happening since 19.04; I never reported it since I thought it could be
one of intel GPU driver bugs and it would be fixed elsewhere.

Now I think this could be related somehow; probably I've faced the black
screen issue when I connected the dock, "fixed" it by switching to
greeter and then back to user session and this could cause a sleep
issue?..

Sorry if my explanation looks confusing; let me know if there's
something else I could check.

[Bug 1882415] Re: Graphical artifact in top-right corner, owned by ibus-ui-gtk3

2020-06-16 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Interesting. That speaks for two possible ways to fix the issue:

1. Fix it in the IBus source somehow.

2. Stop setting GTK_IM_MODULE also on Xorg (we already don't set it on Wayland)
in case of a GNOME desktop, which would be a change to the im-config package.

Doing 2. may come with other issues for IM users, though. GNOME's
integration of IBus may not be mature enough to rely on it 100%. The
regression caused by
 is one
example of the latter.

So the issue is a bit complex. Adding the rls-gg-incoming tag to call
the desktop team's attention to it.

[Bug 1883515] Re: Can not login with gdm3 when user cred is stored in NIS

2020-06-16 Thread kenjo
the issue with not having the same output of the "id" command has gone
away after a reboot but something is still strange with that as I did
logout and login the user after changing the group settings for the user
to be able to see the change.

its not going to work well if the entire machine needs to be rebooted
every time /etc/group is changed. again worked fine when logged into
the terminal/ssh but the desktop(gdm) did not pick up the change until
after a reboot.

is something caching user data ?? that user id was in nis but the group
file was local (the id was added to sudo and adm group)

Yes its the same issue. has to be something resent as 20.04 used to work

just to be clear I still have the same home(nfs) directory so local user
do not mean another user just that the user account information is local

Here you go.
I imported an artist folder 'Ghost' while having 'Copy files that are outside

It should not be related to disk space. I have 58GB available space left

[Bug 1878351] Re: System shutdown directly by pressing power button and releasing immediately on Dell Vostro 5301

2020-06-16 Thread Kai-Chuan Hsieh
gnome-session did handle those two events, and it goes to prepare_shutdown
which is current result.
If the original implementation of
https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=688076 is correct, then it is
expected result, and we accept it.

Unless the commit of https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=688076
need to be tweaked to adjust two quick button press.

A debounce is mentioned by the maintainer, not what my first implementation, I
thought original implemention need to do some adjustment for handling the case.

[Bug 1878351] Re: System shutdown directly by pressing power button and releasing immediately on Dell Vostro 5301

2020-06-16 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
A debounce delay just doesn't sound right.

If a user press the power button twice and the kernel dutifully reports
two events, why a debounce is required when there are _actual_ two
events?

If there's a race between gsd and gnome-session, proper ordering should
be imposed, instead of adding a delay to workaround the race.

2020-06-16 Thread Kai-Chuan Hsieh
@Sebastien

I doubt that kernel fix can really solve the problem. If a use press the
power button twice very quickly, it perhaps to run into the same
problem. I think we still have to debounce or adjust the original commit
of https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=688076.

Recently, a lot of device implement fingerprints on power button, I am
not sure if my assumption will happen on those hardwares, however, it is
just my assumption, can be discussed.

2020-06-16 Thread Leonard Peris
I just updated to the 5.4.0-37-generic kernel and the issue seems to
have fixed itself. It turns of automatically across both screens at
sunrise as per sunrise-sunset schedule

I believe it may have been a regression that was introduced in
5.4.0-33-generic and then later fixed.

P.S. Do let me know what command i should run so that I may update the
bug report with details of my system after it has been updated to
5.4.0-37-generic kernel.
