[Bug 1730612] Re: Enable Remote desktop feature during build

2020-10-23 Thread Christian Rauch
This is still an issue on Ubuntu 20.10, while the GNOME Shell remote-
desktop / screencast support on Wayland has been enabled for Fedora and
other distributions for some time now.

What is Ubuntu holding back from enabling Wayland remote-desktop support
(and consecutively a Wayland-by-default session)?

+ the keyboard input layout.

  Ubuntu version: 20.04.1 LTS

Desktop environment: Gnome 3.36.3 (Ubuntu desktop)
+
+ Steps to reproduce:
+ 1. Plug an external USB keyboard
+ 2. Log in to your ubuntu-desktop session
+ 3. Change layout => works properly
+ 4. Unplug USB keyboard and plug it again
+ 5. Change keyboard layout => Problem

  Expected behaviour:
Changing keyboard layout through GUI to change keyboard layout from French to
English.

  What happened instead:
The GUI indicates that the layout changed. However when typing text into any
window, the layout actually does not change.

- I can't find what is causing this problem to happen as restarting the
computer fixes it temporarily until it happens again.
- It seems to happen after the computer goes into sleep.
+ This problem also happens when the computer goes to sleep as it disconnects

+ Once the external USB keyboard is disconnected, the only way to get it to
switch layout is by logging out and back in.

If you could point me out to what logs would be useful and where to find

- Update :
- Unplugging my external USB keyboard fixes the issue; re-plugging it causes it

- Description:
+ Note:
It is worth noting that I am using an external USB keyboard on my laptop.
Unplugging the keyboard fixes the problem once it happens. However re-plugging
it causes the problem to instantly happen again.

[Bug 1901236] Re: Getting notifications twice

2020-10-23 Thread Carlos Pita
Well, according to the XDG spec you can disable autostarting at the user
level in a way that won't be overwritten by future updated:

> If an application autostarts by having a .desktop file installed in
the system wide autostart directory, an individual user can disable the
autotomatic start of this application by placing a .desktop file of the
same name in its personal autostart directory which contains the key
Hidden=true.

I believe my point still stands, though, since this require manual
intervention to revert an arguably incoherent default configuration.

[Bug 1894627] Re: [nvidia] Web browser distorted after hibernation/power save when idle

2020-10-23 Thread Olivier Tilloy
By just comparing the screenshots, this looks more similar to bug
#1855757. But I'll let Daniel comment as he's more familiar with graphic
drivers issues than I am.

Re: [Bug 1894627] Re: [nvidia] Web browser distorted after hibernation/power save when idle

2020-10-23 Thread Kashad J Turner-Warren
I have attached a screenshot of my screen. I am using Google chrome.
It's that distort box on the top left corner. sometimes, it will fill up my
screen
the same size as the webpage. I have to close the browser completely to
remove it.

[Bug 1900729] Re: gnome-terminal font settings show only italic version of ubuntu mono

2020-10-23 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for your bug report, could you perhaps report it upstream on
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-terminal/-/issues

the behaviour changed due to https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-
terminal/-/commit/0760f28a

could be due to https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/pango/-/issues/483 or
similar but if pango is buggy then perhaps using that feature isn't
wanted...

2020-10-23 Thread XA Hydra
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected third-party-packages

** Description changed:

After a day or so of uptime, system will grow quite sluggish to respond
to mouse clicks. Clicking on an app in the dock with multiple windows
will lag up to 1 second, clicking different windows will do the same.
Curiously, right clicking on the desktop takes longer, sometimes over 2
seconds for the menu to appear. Clicking the Calendar/Notification area
and other areas of the shell yield the same issue.

Actual drawing performance does NOT seem to be affected, as browsing and
in-application clicking is still snappy. Highlighting icons by hovering
over the dock is also real-time.

This has reliably occurred after more than a day of uptime on multiple
occasions. My machine is a Ryzen 3600 with 32GB RAM and an NVIDIA 1050Ti
(Proprietary driver) No unusually high CPU usage is found, nor is there
anything that seems to be using very much RAM.

Using Alt+F2 and "r" to restart mutter instantly restores responsiveness

Current version of mutter is 3.36.6

[Bug 1897185] Re: Laptop docked with lid closed, goes to sleep immediately on login

2020-10-23 Thread Tim Wetzel
Daniel, thanks; looks like there IS something with the Dropbox app going on as
one triggers of this. I changed the Dropbox properties so that Dropbox does not
automatically start; turned off Dropbox sync; and turned off the Dropbox app.
Shut down the system. When I started the system, it did not suspend? Perhaps
this will help to reproduce this issue? Again, as best I could see in the logs,
the event immediately before the suspend event was loading a dropbox extension
(comment 14 above).
Thanks...

Re: [Bug 1899720] Re: Gnome takes MORE THAN 20 SECONDS to open a folder

2020-10-23 Thread Glen Byram
Thanks for your speedy reply. However I disagree with your diagnosis.

The problem I reported seems to have been fixed by a series of updates,
that I downloaded shortly after sending you the log. So a software patch
seems to have made the problem vanish,

Whatever problems my harddisk has did not have ANY impact on browsing
files in 18.04. As I reported initially, the problem started ONLY and
IMMEDIATELY after the initial 20.04 upgrade.

I therefore looked at the immediate PRECIPITATING CAUSE of the problem,
version upgrade, before assuming it is a hardware problem.

Anyway, thanks again for your time.

[Bug 1901150] Re: No "Are you sure?" question when deleting something from Desktop

2020-10-23 Thread Paddy Landau
I'm using Ubuntu 20.04.
On my desktop, Delete (which moves the item to the Recycling bin) just deletes
it.
Shift+Delete (which deletes the item permanently) does ask.

To me, this is correct behaviour and shouldn't change.

But...

I don't know if this has anything to do with the extension that is used
to control the desktop. In Ubuntu, the default is the broken "Desktop
Icons" [1], which should be replaced with the fixed "Desktop Icons NG
(DING)" [2] (by the same author).

I have uninstalled Desktop Icons and installed Desktop Icons NG (DING).
Thus, my desktop's behaviour might differ from the standard.

See Bug #1813441 comment 24

[Bug 1900009] Re: Window tiled to monitor where most of the window is in instead of where the mouse is.

2020-10-23 Thread Treviño
** Description changed:

Release: Ubuntu Groovy Gorilla (development branch) 20.10
  Package version: 3.38.1-1ubuntu1
+
+ [ Impact ]

When I tile windows using edge tiling, I want the window to tile on the
same edge that I brought it to, however, if the window is mostly in
monitor 1 when I try to tile it to the left (or right) edge of monitor
2, the window will tile to the left (or right) edge of monitor 2.

This happens on both my computer with an Nvidia GPU on x11 and my laptop
using Intel integrated graphics on Wayland.
+
+ [ Test case ]
+
+ - In multi-monitor setup, grab a tile edge to the side where the other
monitor is
+ - The window should not be moved to the other monitor
+
+ [ Regression potential ]
+
+ Windows may be tiled to the wrong monitor once created

  Distributor ID: Ubuntu
  Description:Ubuntu 20.04 LTS
  Release:20.04
  Codename: focal

  % wmctrl -m
  Name: GNOME Shell
  Class: N/A
  PID: N/A
Window manager's "showing the desktop" mode: OFF

  Terms:
window has four sides: top, bottom, left, and right
when referring to corners, "upper" means "top", and "lower" means "bottom",
so the four corners are upper-right, lower-right, lower-left, and upper-left.
wonky: works wrong, as detailed below ("cases that work wrong...")

  Description:

I can resize a gnome-terminal window, everything works fine.
  (Grab it, using the mouse, by the upper-right corner (click-and-hold);
the size changes as the mouse is moved, because the position
of the upper-right corner follows the mouse. (Only the upper-right corner
moves.))
But when I try to resize an xterm window the same way,
this happens instead: as the mouse is moved, the upper-right corner
does move, but it doesn't track with the mouse pointer like it should.
Meanwhile, the lower-left corner also moves (it should have remained anchored
in its original x-y position on the screen).

  Cases that work correctly:
If the xterm window is grabbed by the lower-right corner and resized, this
case works properly.
If the xterm window is grabbed by the bottom edge and resized, this case
works properly.
If the xterm window is grabbed by the right edge and resized, this case works
properly.

  Cases that work wrong ("wonky"):
If the xterm window is grabbed by the left edge and resized, then the
opposite (i.e. right) edge (incorrectly) migrates.
If the xterm window is grabbed by the top edge and resized, then the opposite
(i.e. bottom) edge (incorrectly) migrates.
If the xterm window is grabbed by the upper-right corner and resized, then
the window (incorrectly) migrates.
If the xterm window is grabbed by the lower-left corner and resized, then the
window (incorrectly) migrates.
If the xterm window is grabbed by the upper-left corner and resized, then the
window (incorrectly) migrates.

[Bug 1897224] Re: Graphical snaps can't run in Gnome 3.38 Wayland sessions (can't open X display)

2020-10-23 Thread Marius Gedminas
I've just upgraded to groovy and hit this bug. For now I'm using socat
as a workaround:

socat abstract-listen:/tmp/.X11-unix/X0,reuseaddr,fork
unix:/tmp/.X11-unix/X0

This works, but is rather slow (and probably also opens a security hole
on multiuser machines).

[Bug 1901150] Re: No "Are you sure?" question when deleting something from Desktop

2020-10-23 Thread Adam Niedling
There is no Recycle Bin when pressing Shift+Del. The file just goes away
without confirmation.
And Nautilus does ask you when pressing Shift+Del. So should the Desktop.

When pressing just Del then the Desktop should give the option to Undo
it. If you want the same behaviour as Nautilus.

[Bug 1901150] Re: No "Are you sure?" question when deleting something from Desktop

2020-10-23 Thread Adam Dingle
Note that Nautilus does not ask "Are you sure?" when you delete a file.
Instead, it deletes the file immediately, and displays a notification
saying that the file was deleted, along with an Undo button.

So if the goal is for the desktop to behave like Nautilus, then the
desktop should not ask "Are you sure?" either.

[Bug 1901150] Re: No "Are you sure?" question when deleting something from Desktop

2020-10-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Confirmed, but now that I think about it, this might be intentional.
Because you can always get deleted files back from the Recycling Bin /
Trash, there's not strictly any need to prompt the user in the first
place.
