I have no session menu at all after upgrading to Jammy today. Is this the right bug report for it, or should I open a new one? It wasn't entirely clear to me from the description. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot of GDM" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1969243/+attachment/5581015/+files/20220416_052326.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1969243 Title: gdm 42.0-1ubuntu4 no longer shows Wayland option To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1969243/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1969256] [NEW] Dual Monitors on Xorg with Scaling is Broken
Public bug reported: Firstly I want to note that this is not a Jammy specific bug. I have used ubuntu focal, and impish and note it there as well (it may exist on older releases, I have not tested). When using multiple monitors with the Xorg backend, scaling does not work properly. I have a 4K 27in monitor (on the right) and a 1080p 21.5in monitor (on the left). I would like to scale my 4K monitor to 150% and leave the 1080p monitor at 100%. Doing this works correctly in wayland. However, doing this is gnome (through the gnome settings display dialog) produces the wrong outcome. Setting the 4K monitor to 150% scales BOTH the 4K display (right) and the other 1080p display (left). the 1080p display scaling should not change as per the gui but it does and cuts of the viewable area. I have attached before scaling and after scaling images to this to help show what is happening. I realize this may not be a gdm3 bug, please assist in moving this bug to the correct location as necessary. xrandr output for before scaling is as follows: ``` Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 5760 x 2160, maximum 16384 x 16384 DisplayPort-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DisplayPort-3 connected primary 3840x2160+1920+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 600mm x 340mm 3840x2160 60.00*+ 30.00 2560x1440 59.95 1920x1200 60.00 1920x1080 60.0059.94 1600x1200 60.00 1680x1050 60.00 1600x900 60.00 1280x1024 60.02 1440x900 60.00 1280x800 59.81 1152x864 59.97 1280x720 60.0059.94 1024x768 60.00 800x600 60.32 720x480 60.0059.94 640x480 60.0059.94 DisplayPort-4 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-A-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DVI-D-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-1-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-1-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-1-2 connected 1920x1080+0+1080 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 477mm x 268mm 1920x1080 60.00*+ 1280x1024 75.0260.02 1152x864 75.00 1024x768 75.0360.00 800x600 75.0060.32 640x480 75.0059.94 720x400 70.08 DP-1-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-1-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 1920x1080 (0x5e) 148.500MHz +HSync +VSync h: width 1920 start 2008 end 2052 total 2200 skew0 clock 67.50KHz v: height 1080 start 1084 end 1089 total 1125 clock 60.00Hz 1280x1024 (0x63) 108.000MHz +HSync +VSync h: width 1280 start 1328 end 1440 total 1688 skew0 clock 63.98KHz v: height 1024 start 1025 end 1028 total 1066 clock 60.02Hz 1024x768 (0x69) 65.000MHz -HSync -VSync h: width 1024 start 1048 end 1184 total 1344 skew0 clock 48.36KHz v: height 768 start 771 end 777 total 806 clock 60.00Hz 800x600 (0x6a) 40.000MHz +HSync +VSync h: width 800 start 840 end 968 total 1056 skew0 clock 37.88KHz v: height 600 start 601 end 605 total 628 clock 60.32Hz 640x480 (0x6e) 25.175MHz -HSync -VSync h: width 640 start 656 end 752 total 800 skew0 clock 31.47KHz v: height 480 start 490 end 492 total 525 clock 59.94Hz ``` xrandr output for when scaling is applied is as follows: ``` Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 8960 x 2880, maximum 16384 x 16384 DisplayPort-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DisplayPort-3 connected primary 5120x2880+3840+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 600mm x 340mm 3840x2160 60.00*+ 30.00 2560x1440 59.95 1920x1200 60.00 1920x1080 60.0059.94 1600x1200 60.00 1680x1050 60.00 1600x900 60.00 1280x1024 60.02 1440x900 60.00 1280x800 59.81 1152x864 59.97 1280x720 60.0059.94 1024x768 60.00 800x600 60.32 720x480 60.0059.94 640x480 60.0059.94 DisplayPort-4 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-A-3 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DVI-D-0 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) DP-1-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-1-1 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-1-2 connected 3840x2160+0+720 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 477mm x 268mm 1920x1080 60.00*+ 1280x1024 75.0260.02 1152x864 75.00 1024x768 75.0360.00 800x600 75.0060.32 640x480 75.0059.94 720x400 70.08 DP-1-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) HDMI-1-3 disconnected (normal
[Bug 1969255] Re: Certain languages can't be switched between
Thanks for your report. The ibus-unikey behavior in this respect is not configurable AFAIK. While the behavior is fine together with latin keyboard layouts, it's problematic when you try to switch from a non-latin layout such as Russian directly to Unikey. You have found a workaround — switch to English first, then Unikey — which is good. The upstream development of ibus-unikey has stopped, so the chance is small that the issue will be addressed soon. ** Package changed: gnome-control-center (Ubuntu) => ibus-unikey (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: ibus-unikey (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: ibus-unikey (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1969255 Title: Certain languages can't be switched between To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ibus-unikey/+bug/1969255/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1969243] Re: gdm 42.0-1ubuntu4 no longer shows Wayland option
I just reported https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1969250 which was marked as duplicate of this bug (which it is), but do check that bug for a bit more analysis on where the bug is. TL;DR: there are nvidia- specific checks in 61-gdm.rules that are no longer guarded by a check for nvidia hardware in the rules file (because the patch reversal in 42.0-1ubuntu4 removed that check). As a workaround, you can edit /lib/udev/rules.d/61-gdm.rules and comment out or remove these lines: ## Check if suspend/resume services necessary for working wayland support is available TEST{0711}!="/usr/bin/nvidia-sleep.sh", GOTO="gdm_disable_wayland" TEST{0711}!="/usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/nvidia", GOTO="gdm_disable_wayland" IMPORT{program}="/bin/sh -c \"sed -e 's/: /=/g' -e 's/\([^[:upper:]]\)\([[:upper:]]\)/\1_\2/g' -e 's/[[:lower:]]/\U&/g' -e 's/^/NVIDIA_/' /proc/driver/nvidia/params\"" ENV{NVIDIA_PRESERVE_VIDEO_MEMORY_ALLOCATIONS}!="1", GOTO="gdm_disable_wayland" IMPORT{program}="/bin/sh -c 'echo NVIDIA_HIBERNATE=`systemctl is-enabled nvidia-hibernate`'" ENV{NVIDIA_HIBERNATE}!="enabled", GOTO="gdm_disable_wayland" IMPORT{program}="/bin/sh -c 'echo NVIDIA_RESUME=`systemctl is-enabled nvidia-resume`'" ENV{NVIDIA_RESUME}!="enabled", GOTO="gdm_disable_wayland" IMPORT{program}="/bin/sh -c 'echo NVIDIA_SUSPEND=`systemctl is-enabled nvidia-suspend`'" ENV{NVIDIA_SUSPEND}!="enabled", GOTO="gdm_disable_wayland" -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gdm3 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1969243 Title: gdm 42.0-1ubuntu4 no longer shows Wayland option To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1969243/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 1969250] [NEW] gdm disables wayland for all(?) non-nvidia cards since 42.0-1ubuntu4
Public bug reported: I was happily using wayland so far on an Intel Tiger Lake laptop. Then I did an upgrade, including upgrading gdm3 42.0-1ubuntu2 to 42.0-1ubuntu4, rebooted, and got logged into an Xorg session. Investigating, it seems this was caused by this patch, reverting in manually locally fixes things: https://salsa.debian.org/gnome- team/gdm/-/blob/ubuntu/master/debian/patches/data-Disable-wayland-on- nvidia-if-suspend-is-broken.patch Looking at the patch, it seems that the checks introduced by it are nvidia-specific, but are applied to *all* other cards as well. There used to be an nvidia-only check wrapping these checeks, but that was reverted as part of 42.0-1ubuntu4 here: https://salsa.debian.org/gnome- team/gdm/-/commit/e2f0cca51dd9638c5b2a74a9739539ef4fd427bd I think this is a pretty urgent and issue. I haven't tested on multiple machines, but AFAICS this will be unintentionally be disabling wayland for a lot of people... I can provide more hardware details, but I think the bug will be obvious if you look at the resulting 61-gdm.rules file (here's an excerpt, including some context around the nvidia checks to see they are unguarded): LABEL="gdm_pci_device_end" # disable Wayland if modesetting is disabled KERNEL!="card[0-9]*", GOTO="gdm_nomodeset_end" SUBSYSTEM!="drm", GOTO="gdm_nomodeset_end" IMPORT{parent}="GDM_MACHINE_HAS_VIRTUAL_GPU" ENV{GDM_MACHINE_HAS_VIRTUAL_GPU}!="1", RUN+="/usr/bin/touch /run/udev/gdm-machine-has-hardware-gpu" # but keep it enabled for simple framebuffer drivers DRIVERS=="simple-framebuffer", GOTO="gdm_nomodeset_end" IMPORT{cmdline}="nomodeset", GOTO="gdm_disable_wayland" LABEL="gdm_nomodeset_end" # Check if suspend/resume services necessary for working wayland support is available TEST{0711}!="/usr/bin/nvidia-sleep.sh", GOTO="gdm_disable_wayland" TEST{0711}!="/usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/nvidia", GOTO="gdm_disable_wayland" IMPORT{program}="/bin/sh -c \"sed -e 's/: /=/g' -e 's/\([^[:upper:]]\)\([[:upper:]]\)/\1_\2/g' -e 's/[[:lower:]]/\U&/g' -e 's/^/NVIDIA_/' /proc/driver/nvidia/params\"" ENV{NVIDIA_PRESERVE_VIDEO_MEMORY_ALLOCATIONS}!="1", GOTO="gdm_disable_wayland" IMPORT{program}="/bin/sh -c 'echo NVIDIA_HIBERNATE=`systemctl is-enabled nvidia-hibernate`'" ENV{NVIDIA_HIBERNATE}!="enabled", GOTO="gdm_disable_wayland" IMPORT{program}="/bin/sh -c 'echo NVIDIA_RESUME=`systemctl is-enabled nvidia-resume`'" ENV{NVIDIA_RESUME}!="enabled", GOTO="gdm_disable_wayland" IMPORT{program}="/bin/sh -c 'echo NVIDIA_SUSPEND=`systemctl is-enabled nvidia-suspend`'" ENV{NVIDIA_SUSPEND}!="enabled", GOTO="gdm_disable_wayland" # # Disable wayland when nvidia modeset is disabled or when drivers are a lower # version than 470, # For versions above 470 but lower than 510 prefer Xorg, # Above 510, prefer Wayland.
