[Bug 876007] Re: nautilus uses 100% of CPU
Don't you think it's a bit reckless closing bugs and brushing them aside like this, as if people reporting them are mere idiots. This is a really serious bug, and only two days ago I managed to waste a complete 48 hours because of the 100% CPU usage and unresponsiveness of the system. You say to obtain a back trace; how on earth are you supposed to do that when the system is simply frozen and the bug affecting not a single package, but every single package that one can use to copy files across - take your pick, do a large copy of either a large contiguous file or a large number of files, and bingo you have it. One would have thought a team with brains the size of a planet would surely have seen this, rather than hide behind political crap that distinguished Micro$oft and it's pile of Windoze trash. [Bug 585195] [NEW] Evolution hangs reading pane after showing HTML message
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution -I am using POP3 accounts on Evolution to read my email and this error happens on reading their local messages. Besides that I also have IMAP setup, but am not usually using it. So this should not be related to the IMAP 'message formatting' bug. Expected behaviour: -HTML messages can be read like text messages in Evolution and reading pane does not hang after displaying HTML Problem behaviour: -Reading text only messages works without any issues, however on HTML messages it will render and display the message, but after this the reading pane freezes. -Freezing means: if I click on 'next message', 'prior message', 'delete' etc. the old HTML message remains in the reading pane, while the header of the reading window will change to the title of the next/prior email etc. Evolution itself will keep responding. -My current workaround is, to doubleclick on a next email, by this opening a new reading pane. For this pane now the same behaviour continues. I.e. as long as it shows text only messages there will be no issues, but it will hang the display after the first HTML message. -For each hung reading pane one status message is shown in the evolution status bar "Nachricht wird formatiert" = 'formatting message'. -When trying to close Evolution: -->it will not shut down if I have at least one of the "Nachricht wird formatiert" messages in the status bar and I need to kill it -->If I was lucky and read only text messages (and no "Nachricht wird formatiert" messages are still hanging) it will shut down peacefully. You don't ask much! Anyway, I followed your recipe and managed to produce the failure and a crash report was created in /var/crash. In fact, I did this twice--I'm getting to be an expert in crashing gnome-terminal. I understood your message to require that I restart apport. That didn't work. The crash didn't produce a report. So I did a total reboot--perhaps I only need to log out to restart all the gnome stuff--and that did the trick. There is no need to use Nautilus to find the report and double-click it. (And, if you want to do that, you need to change the permissions of the report, which are 0600.) There was a notification placed in the panel and I was able to click that and, or so I was led to believe by the information in the GUI, send off the report. > I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will > automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more > efficiently. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-terminal gnome-terminal/hardy uptodate 2.22.1-0ubuntu2 Invoking Edit->Profiles ...->New in gnome-terminal results in the program exiting just after the name of the new profile is entered followed by hitting the Enter key. When gnome-terminal is restarted, the new profile has been created and is ready for editing. This has happened several times, at least three, including twice this morning. It is not, however, uniformly repeatable. I'm pretty sure that in all cases the exit happened when adding a second profile, the initial state being that onlty the Default profile existed. This sequence of actions just caused the error, the fourth time at least. Two gnome-terminal running, each started with gksu gnome- terminal. In one, I delete the second profile, called "ALternative". I quit the terminal in which I performed that action. I start a new gnome- terminal with gksu. I add a new profile and the program exits. This now seems repeatable, because it happened again, the fifth time, using the above sequence of steps. ** Affects: gnome-terminal (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- gnome-terminal dies on creation of a new profile https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/227664 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-terminal in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 24280] Re: locally installed gtk themes not applied to admin apps
Tom, yes, it's going from gconf. [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ find . -exec grep -l CleanBlue {} \; ./.gconf/desktop/gnome/interface/%gconf.xml ./.themes/CleanBlue/index.theme [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ Sebastian probably meant that it's root's gconf. So then gtk should learn x session owner (I guess the X server can give such information?) and read his gconf setting with the theme name and path. -- locally installed gtk themes not applied to admin apps https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/24280 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a subscriber of a duplicate bug. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 24280] I guess It's not a gksu issue, gtk probably
I agree this issue is really annoying. But I've noticed that if I run an application from xterm using "sudo application" command line, I get that unthemed gtk controls. So it's not a gksu problem. It's a common issue related to using user themes by gtk. I think that gtk should take into consideration not only user id that it's running under, but also a common context like who really owns the session and his themes/paths to themes. -- locally installed gtk themes not applied to admin apps https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/24280 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a subscriber of a duplicate bug. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Re: [Bug 116329] Re: Login screen missing when login reconfigured
Martin, Thanks for writing back, it's very much appreciated. The URL is https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/6130 Many Login Window Preferences were changed. I'm not sure exactly what parameters were set but I cahnged the Image Logo to ghome-suse.png, I also set the welcome message and the style was "plain with face browser". I allowed users to change fonts and colors and allowed the background image to be shown to remote users. One thing is for sure, the problem occured after the Login Windows Preferences were altered. I respectfully differ on the security issue. If anyone can come in to my office, turn on my PC and start using my computer without a password, that's a security issue. I have a few decades of computer networking under my belt. It may not be a vulnerability per say, however, this instability results in network and application access. I'm all for the project. Let me know what eles I can do to help, however, I've given you all I know about this issue. UNIX is something I haven't touched in 5 years. [Bug 116329] Login screen missing when login reconfigured
You have been subscribed to a public bug: I have Ubuntu 7.04 updated. I had the same problem as thread #6130. I picked too many parameters and I got the "black screen of pause" when I booted up again. No Ubuntu Xwindows screen, just a small round clock-like icon waiting for something. I had to set the "enable automatic login" parameter in "Windows Login Preferences" in order for the Ubuntu Xwindows session to come up again, however, I cannot get a login screen resulting in a security issue. I have to have the system automatically log me in because when I disable "automatic login" I get the black screen of pause again. This is a bug with the configuration parameters in the preferences interface. I was getting cute with the Login Window configuration. I followed the thread entitled "No Graphic Login screen to get to desktop" #6130. Very helpful. HOWEVER! I have something to add. How to fix the problem temporarily CTRL/ALT/F2 sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop startx (start a terminal session when you get in to the Xwindows session) (The Login Windows Preferences will not start unless you start gdm again) sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart (you will get a hideous screen, ignore it, hit CTRL/ALT/F7 to get in to the Xwindows session again) (set your Windows Preferences parameters, preferably auto login by disabling automatic login) exit out and restart the computer HOPEFULLY the Ubuntu brains will find and publish a fix. This bug is a local security vulnerability. ** Affects: gdm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Needs Info -- Login screen missing when login reconfigured https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/116329 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
