[Bug 1794213] Re: Crash on Upgrade to 18.10 from 18.04 Network Not Available
I can confirm, experiencing the same. So from what I understand is that apt executes if /usr/bin/test -w /var/cache/app-info -a -e /usr/bin/appstreamcli; then appstreamcli refresh-cache > /dev/null; fi which fails. It checks whether the two files /var/cache/app-info and /usr/bin/appstreamcli both exist and if so it attempts to run appstreamcli. appstreamcli handles AppStream metadata and the AppStream index. /var/cache/app-info does not exist on my system. Not sure if it is supposed to be there all the time or just during the uggrade process. Leaving my VM in the current condition so I can gather more information if needed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to appstream in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1794213 Title: Crash on Upgrade to 18.10 from 18.04 Network Not Available To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/appstream/+bug/1794213/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 9828] Re: gdm should start earlier in the boot process
I'd like to reopen this report. On Hardy 2008-02-28 i can see that the following services are started before gdm is invoked: * cupsd * avahid * bluetooth * system-tools-backends This is all I could write down during two boot-ups. There may be other service. do we really need to start these services *before* gdm is started? I had another idea: why not halt the boot process when gdm starts up, and have it send a dbus message that login is ready, and use this message to continue the startup. Should give gdm all system resources.
