[Bug 1127743] [NEW] seek bar issues when playing m4a
Public bug reported: Steps to reproduce: 1. Play A State of Trance podcast m4a file. Notice that seek bar indicates that we are a few minutes into the song but it's actually playing the beginning. 2. Try to seek halfway through the song. Audio that starts playing is from halfway through the song but the seek bar jumps further in the song. 3. Press pause. Rhythmbox pauses. 4. Press play. Rhythmbox doesn't play. Even though the song I'm playing is from a podcast it's not specific to the podcast area of rhythmbox. I can reproduce the issue when copying the file to my normal library. See attached screenshot. It does seem to be related to specific types of m4a files, though. I have others that don't reproduce the issue. As Martin Pitt wrote, the default option is now Eject, which mostly fixes the usability issue. One actually has to right-click and choose a non-default option to encounter this bug. I think the issue here is the same as the mail thread I linked in comment 16. Affected users can try adding the brightness_in_hardware hal key to their fdi file to see if it fixes it. See the mail thread for more information and /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/10 -laptop-panel-hardware.fdi for an example. My patched version should only have the following effect: when you plug in the machine, it should not execute the lid-closed action. [Bug 363326] Re: Brightness control doesn't work on Amilo mini UI 3520
Thanks, Janis. The issue here is either that the laptop has a proprietary backlight control or the BIOS is slightly broken. Just in case, can you try running the current mainline kernel from the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/MainlineBuilds? This is just to ensure the problem's not specific to Ubuntu and not fixed already in the next release of the kernel. The keys may still not work, check /sys/class/backlight/ just to see if the kernel found anything. If the mainline kernel doesn't work, then our best hope is to get upstream linux to work around a bug in the BIOS. If this is the case, please install acpidump and attach a dump here with the following commands: sudo apt-get install acpidump sudo acpidump -o acpidump.txt I'll then try to take a look at the dump and determine if it's possible to workaround it. I know all this is pretty involved, but at this point it's let's fix a problem instead of let's find the bug, so you might help add a feature to linux if we're lucky. :) -- Brightness control doesn't work on Amilo mini UI 3520 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363326 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-power-manager in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Hi Berend, thanks for the log! Pinpointed the problem. You're right that the problem is with lid_is_closed, but your patch isn't quite right. lid-is-closed is a property provided by upower and we can't modify it. Ahah, Berend I didn't see your comment about lid state before. What happens if you change the Lid Closed action in g-p-m to Nothing (or Blank Screen or whatever it says)? Also, please post the results of upower -d | grep lid (on Lucid, or devkit-power -d | grep lid on Karmic) for the following conditions: 1) Immediately after boot. 2) If possible, between plugging in AC (after notification) and the suspend. 3) After resume. [Bug 363326] Re: Brightness control doesn't work on Amilo mini UI 3520
mad_man: Sorry for the confusion, I mean the /upstream/ report was not for a netbook. I know this one is. :) Just telling me that /sys/class/backlight/ is empty is enough information. That means the kernel has no control over your backlight! Can you tell me the output of cat /proc/cmdline? It seems like your netbook's brightness keys may be hardware-only, and the presses don't travel through the OS at all. I still need an ls of /sys/class/backlight from a non-working case. [Bug 579069] Re: Unplugging AC power reports critical battery / auto-suspend; battery is actually full
** Description changed: Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04 Fully updated packages Kernel: 2.6.32-22-generic The computer is an MSI Wind u100 netbook, 3-cell battery. The BIOS is flashed with the latest available firmware, which is 1.0G, released on 2010-01-04. Upon unplugging the netbook from AC power, the panel reports that the battery is critically low (2 minutes left) even though the indicator applet also reports the battery is 100% charged; and then the system auto-suspends without confirmation. After resuming from suspend, the panel reports that the battery is 100% charged (or whatever the actual value is.) In other words, the system is doing what is set under Power Management, which is to suspend when the battery is critically low. The problem is, the battery is NOT critically low, and the notification bubble reports the battery 100% charged, but only has 2 minutes left. Whatever information is needed, I will supply. I am not sure if this is related to the kernel or a particular package. This did not happen on Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10, 2.6.31 kernel. + + === WORKAROUND === + + gconftool-2 --type bool --set /apps/gnome-power- + manager/general/use_time_for_policy false + + (from https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-power- + manager/+bug/572541/comments/1) + + === apport info === ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04 Package: linux-image-2.6.32-22-generic 2.6.32-22.33 Regression: Yes Reproducible: Yes ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-22.33-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2 Uname: Linux 2.6.32-22-generic i686 AlsaDevices: Error: command ['ls', '-l', '/dev/snd/'] failed with exit code 2: ls: cannot access /dev/snd/: No such file or directory AplayDevices: aplay: device_list:223: no soundcards found...
