[Bug 126540] Re: Opening Popupmenu in Context of Folder with List-View impossible?

2013-08-31 Thread David Tombs
By the way, this upstream bug[1] has been reported on the issue. You can
get the right context menu with the gear icon, but I admit it's
unintuitive.

[Bug 1127743] [NEW] seek bar issues when playing m4a

2013-02-16 Thread David Tombs
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Play A State of Trance podcast m4a file. Notice that seek bar indicates that
we are a few minutes into the song but it's actually playing the beginning.
2. Try to seek halfway through the song. Audio that starts playing is from
halfway through the song but the seek bar jumps further in the song.
3. Press pause. Rhythmbox pauses.
4. Press play. Rhythmbox doesn't play.

Even though the song I'm playing is from a podcast it's not specific to
the podcast area of rhythmbox. I can reproduce the issue when copying
the file to my normal library. See attached screenshot.

It does seem to be related to specific types of m4a files, though. I
have others that don't reproduce the issue.

[Bug 504440] Re: sd card safely remove drive kills reader device

2011-01-22 Thread David Tombs
As Martin Pitt wrote, the default option is now Eject, which mostly
fixes the usability issue. One actually has to right-click and choose a
non-default option to encounter this bug. Note also that I regularly do
use Safely Remove Drive when removing a USB HDD because that is the
option which powers down the drive before removing it.

Martin is correct in Won't Fix. This bug has been worked around to the
extent possible, and the Ubuntu developers have no way to fix it
completely.

much confusion. :)

@Dave: Not sure exactly what you're asking. An external USB HDD and an
internal USB-attached card reader appear exactly the same to the system
if that answers your question.

2010-09-13 Thread David Tombs
Milan: it's absolutely not broken. Look at the exceptions under

About Use audio devices while logged out, that's not really accurate

[Bug 352699] Re: Brightness up/down key sensibility on fujitsu u9200

2010-08-15 Thread David Tombs
I think the issue here is the same as the mail thread I linked in
comment 16. Affected users can try adding the brightness_in_hardware
hal key to their fdi file to see if it fixes it. See the mail thread for
more information and /usr/share/hal/fdi/information/10freedesktop/10
-laptop-panel-hardware.fdi for an example. If adding this key (without
brightness_switch_enabled option) fixes the problem, then your hardware
is broken and we need a quirk.

Also note that g-p-m will no longer use HAL in Maverick so I don't know
what the workaround will be there.

Well the underlying cause is the same between these two bugs, so perhaps

Hi hirumono,

Don't worry, your information may be tedious but that kind of detail
is very helpful in differentiating bugs. :)

I still think you have a different issue: the upstream report shows that
affected users' CD drives have an invalid value for the can_eject
property, so gvfs will never unmount the drive. On the other hand, yours
seems to work under certain circumstances. (manuarmata's also might be a
different issue.) So, please do open a new report. Thanks for you help!

Scott, Oliver: glad it worked out for you!

Chris Collins: thanks for the report. I'll mention that upstream.

Berend: your patch will work around the issue for your laptop, but it
breaks functionality in g-p-m for working laptops so unfortunately it's
not going to get put into the release. Since this has been shown to be
hardware-dependent, I think we should split this report into hard-ware

[Bug 481312] Re: Laptop suspends when I connect/disconnect AC

2010-06-20 Thread David Tombs
My patched version should only have the following effect: when you plug
in the machine, it should not execute the lid-closed action. It will
probably still execute it when you unplug it (which is not really a bug
in g-p-m, it's a bug in upower). So you all are saying that plugging it
in still always results in lid-close action anyway? If so, I'll have to
modify my patch to include more logging to figure out what's going wrong
I guess.

Berend: sorry about the version issue. The problem is that my version #
was the same as the next one to be released by Ubuntu. You can do a
force-downgrade, the package manager will warn you it's dangerous but in
this case it should do no harm.

[Bug 363326] Re: Brightness control doesn't work on Amilo mini UI 3520

2010-06-19 Thread David Tombs
Hi Janis, thanks for the report. I examined your ACPI dump and
unfortunately your BIOS contains no methods for modifying brightness at
all. :( Your only hope would be requesting a linux driver from the
manufacturer.

Requesting Won't Fix status for this bug.

[Bug 363326] Re: Brightness control doesn't work on Amilo mini UI 3520

2010-06-18 Thread David Tombs
Thanks, Janis. The issue here is either that the laptop has a
proprietary backlight control or the BIOS is slightly broken.

Just in case, can you try running the current mainline kernel from the
instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/MainlineBuilds?
This is just to ensure the problem's not specific to Ubuntu and not
fixed already in the next release of the kernel. The keys may still not
work, check /sys/class/backlight/ just to see if the kernel found
anything.

If the mainline kernel doesn't work, then our best hope is to get
upstream linux to work around a bug in the BIOS. If this is the case,
please install acpidump and attach a dump here with the following
commands:

sudo apt-get install acpidump
sudo acpidump -o acpidump.txt

I'll then try to take a look at the dump and determine if it's possible
to workaround it.

I know all this is pretty involved, but at this point it's let's fix a
problem instead of let's find the bug, so you might help add a
feature to linux if we're lucky. :)

[Bug 481312] Re: Laptop suspends when I connect/disconnect AC

2010-06-18 Thread David Tombs
Hi Berend, thanks for the log! Pinpointed the problem.

You're right that the problem is with lid_is_closed, but your patch
isn't quite right. lid-is-closed is a property provided by upower and
we can't modify it. The issue is that g-p-m /assumes/ the lid is open
when it starts up, so the next time it notices that it's closed, it does
the lid closed action. I'll work on a new patch.

[Bug 481312] Re: Laptop suspends when I connect/disconnect AC

2010-06-18 Thread David Tombs
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I'm running Karmic on a laptop. When I'm running on battery and connect
the AC cord, the laptop suspends. It suspedns also when on AC and I
disconnect the power cord. This didn't happen in Jaunty or earlier.
+
+
+
+ The underlying problem here is that upower always reports lid closed for
+ these particular laptops. What makes this worse is that g-p-m initially
+ assumes the lid is open, so it performs the lid closed action the first
+ time it notices that it's closed.
+
+ WORKAROUND: change lid-closed action to Blank Screen in Power Management
+ properties.

[Bug 439448] Re: visual corruption affecting several panel applets

2010-06-18 Thread David Tombs
I'm pretty sure this is occurs compiz-only. I never saw it before I
switched to compiz (1.5 months), now I've seen it multiple times. The
only two people who have reported this with metacity I think made
mistakes--Dave's screenshot looks like a different bug and Tom's has
telltale compiz shadow around the menu.

Also, this doesn't seem upstream as I can't find any reports of other
distros having the problem. I think it's Ubuntu-specific. :-/

Ahah, Berend I didn't see your comment about lid state before. What
happens if you change the Lid Closed action in g-p-m to Nothing (or
Blank Screen or whatever it says)?

Also, please post the results of upower -d | grep lid (on Lucid, or
devkit-power -d | grep lid on Karmic) for the following conditions:

1) Immediately after boot.
2) If possible, between plugging in AC (after notification) and the suspend.
3) After resume.

If possible, please reproduce this information on Lucid or even
Maverick, just to make sure we're using the latest available versions.

2010-06-15 Thread David Tombs
mad_man: Sorry for the confusion, I mean the /upstream/ report was not
for a netbook. I know this one is. :)

Just telling me that /sys/class/backlight/ is empty is enough
information. That means the kernel has no control over your backlight!
Can you tell me the output of cat /proc/cmdline? It seems like your
netbook's brightness keys may be hardware-only, and the presses don't
travel through the OS at all.

I still need an ls of /sys/class/backlight from a non-working case.
Thanks!

[Bug 579069] Re: Unplugging AC power reports critical battery / auto-suspend; battery is actually full

2010-06-12 Thread David Tombs
** Description changed:

  Ubuntu Lucid Lynx 10.04
  Fully updated packages
  Kernel: 2.6.32-22-generic

The computer is an MSI Wind u100 netbook, 3-cell battery. The BIOS is
flashed with the latest available firmware, which is 1.0G, released on
  2010-01-04.

Upon unplugging the netbook from AC power, the panel reports that the
battery is critically low (2 minutes left) even though the indicator
applet also reports the battery is 100% charged; and then the system
auto-suspends without confirmation. After resuming from suspend, the
panel reports that the battery is 100% charged (or whatever the actual
value is.) In other words, the system is doing what is set under Power
Management, which is to suspend when the battery is critically low. The
problem is, the battery is NOT critically low, and the notification
bubble reports the battery 100% charged, but only has 2 minutes left.

Whatever information is needed, I will supply. I am not sure if this is
related to the kernel or a particular package.

This did not happen on Ubuntu Karmic Koala 9.10, 2.6.31 kernel.

[Bug 593174] [NEW] empathy duplicates my accounts

2010-06-12 Thread David Tombs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: empathy

Every now and then, empathy seems to duplicate my accounts (see
screenshot).

I'm not sure how to reproduce this, but it has happened multiple times.
I don't think it's related to an upgrade, since the only related package
I recently upgraded was telepathy-butterfly. (And I think the problem
showed itself before the upgrade to telepathy-butterly.)

More than willing to provide information, but I don't know where to
start. I don't even know where my account details are stored.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04
Package: empathy 2.30.1-0ubuntu1
ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.32-22.36-generic 2.6.32.11+drm33.2
Uname: Linux 2.6.32-22-generic x86_64
Architecture: amd64
Date: Sat Jun 12 16:53:27 2010
ExecutablePath: /usr/bin/empathy
ProcEnviron:
 SHELL=/bin/bash
 PATH=(custom, user)
 LANG=en_US.utf8
SourcePackage: empathy

** Affects: empathy (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 579069] Re: Unplugging AC power reports critical battery / auto-suspend; battery is actually full

2010-06-12 Thread David Tombs
flan_suse: could you please execute the following command in a terminal
to gather gnome-power-manager info:

apport-collect 579069

This will help us to find and resolve the problem. Bear in mind that you
may need to install the python-launchpadlib package from the universe
repository. Additionally, when prompted to give apport-collect
permissions for Launchpad you will need to give it at least the ability
to Change Non-Private data as it will be adding information to your
bug report. Thanks in advance!

** Changed in: gnome-power-manager (Ubuntu)
   Status: Confirmed = Incomplete
