[Bug 293311] Re: nautilus thumbnails files on a mounted NFS share
"nfs shares are usually local" We have a lot of ambiguity with the word local here, which is the entire problem. I'm not sure what local means in "nfs shares are usually local" - on the local host? On the same subnet? In the same location? In the same organization? In the same city? Furthermore, on what basis are these assumptions being made, I've seen plenty of NFS shares from machines in say, Tokyo or London to machines in New York. The basis for making this bug invalid is ambiguous, and where it is not ambiguous I don't know on what basis someone would say NFS shares are usually local. And even if NFS shares were local 75% of the time, whatever local means, what would that have to do with the failure rate the other 25% of the time. I assume local in this specific context means whatever GIO/GVFS for Nautilus considers local. Upstream did implement it this way, but I think they should be alerted to this ambiguity. I had the same problem myself today before I came across this bug report. Even if they do choose to let it remain, I think there should be thought into changing this locally. Isn't the entire point of the Ubuntu desktop, as opposed to say Debian or Gentoo or whatever, to be user- friendly? I've been a professional Unix systems administrator since the mid-1990s, and I can't make heads or tails by what Nautilus means by local, even looking over the code and documentation. So what hope has the average Ubuntu user? I will be reporting this upstream. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/293311 Title: nautilus thumbnails files on a mounted NFS share To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/293311/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 744067] Re: Not able to open PDF file.
The problem is it not with evince, but with the PDF. It is a bad PDF. I'm sorry, I did not realize that what made sense was for you to create a new bug report when two earlier ones existed. I did not know that it made sense to instead make a redundant third bug report, triage that and send that one upstream, and that people should somehow intuit that this was now the report that earlier bugs should be made a duplicate of. I had been under the impression that the earliest bug report would be the one later bug reports would be made duplicates of. It probably broke on some changed library it depends on. -- Can't play Quadrapassel https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/638013 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-games in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 638013] Re: Can't play Quadrapassel
I launched quadrapassel a few weeks ago and it worked, now it does not. I have been installing all the Maverick Meerkat package upgrades for the past few weeks and am assuming it is a regression error, if not in the gnome-games package then in a package it depends on. I am launching it in a very vanilla fashion - I am sitting at my 10.10 desktop, go in the default GNOME to Applications -> Games -> Quadrapassel and it fails to load. I then go to a gnome-terminal and try to run it from there, and the message I see is shown below. This seems to be failing for people whether or not they have X11 forwarding, as the original bug submitter says he has turned on. I do not have X11 forwarding turned on, yet it is still broken for me. I asked a few people on the IRC channel #ubuntu+1 if they could launch the program, the two that tried could not. I am assuming this is failing for almost everyone, I have not found an up-to-date 10.10 system that quadrapassel works on. Here is the error I'm getting. $ quadrapassel (quadrapassel:2545): ClutterGLX-CRITICAL **: Unable to make the stage window 0x485 the current GLX drawable (quadrapassel:2545): ClutterGLX-CRITICAL **: Unable to make the stage window 0x486 the current GLX drawable (quadrapassel:2545): ClutterGLX-CRITICAL **: Unable to make the stage window 0x485 the current GLX drawable Gdk-ERROR **: The program 'quadrapassel' received an X Window System error. [Bug 602828] Re: evolution crashed with SIGSEGV in gtk_widget_get_toplevel()
I can reproduce this at will. First I open evolution to a date on which I already have an appointment scheduled. Either via the Clock (calendar) applet on my toolbar, or the command that invokes, "evolution calendar:///?startdate=20100923T04Z", or other appointment days I've opened where it eventually crashes as well. Then I copy from within the appointment. I can select all and copy, or highlight one letter and copy, or whatever. It doesn't matter what field - summary, location, both will eventually crash it. So then I close the appointment out, then close evolution out. Boom! Segmentation fault. [Bug 622582] [NEW] gnome-appearance-properties: visual effects change combines workspaces
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-control-center In Meerkat, when in gnome-appearance-properties, in the Visual Effects tab, changing visual effects from normal to none results in all windows in all workspaces to wind up in the first workspace. So workspace one has every window that was opened, and all the other workspaces are empty. This behavior seems to play a role in crashing gnome-terminal's which are open as well ( https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source /gnome-terminal/+bug/620522 ). The preferred behavior would be that one could turn off visual effects without gnome-appearance-properties, or some function it calls, mucking with the workspaces as it does. $ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. Another thing I should mention - when in gnome-appearance-properties and switching the visual effects state from normal to none, if I have various windows of different programs in the different workspaces, they all wind up in the first workspace after the switch, as does my view. [Bug 620522] Re: gnome-terminal crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_is_value_type()
While looking through this, I realize there was another library that it would be good to have debug symbols for, libvte9, so I installed the debug symbols for that, reproduced the crash and attached the trace here. The last trace within gnome-terminal before it goes off to the libraries is this one: #9 0x0042460d in terminal_screen_realize (widget=0x9de0f0) at terminal-screen.c:301 priv = 0x9ded60 If we look at the code after this line in terminal-screen.c we get - 301GTK_WIDGET_CLASS (terminal_screen_parent_class)->realize (widget); 302 303/* FIXME: Don't enable this if we have a compmgr. */ The terminal_screen_realize function has six statements. [Bug 620522] Re: gnome-terminal crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_is_value_type()
I have the same problem. When running gnome-appearance-properties (from the gnome-control-center package), in the visual effects tab I switch the visual effects state from normal to none. I guess my gnome-terminal is unable to handle this change. I've installed the debug packages for gnome-terminal and for some of the involved libraries, and have attached a trace as requested. It is similar to the original trace for this report, but with the debug symbol packages my trace is more robust. Not sure of everything as to how to reproduce, I have a bunch of windows open in my first workspace, I use an xterm to open the gnome-terminal session I'm debugging, then I clone (Open Terminal on the gnome-termnal) it three times and put a terminal in each workspace. At the top of workspace one and four are open terminals. In workspace four I open gnome-appearance-properties, make the switch, and segmentation fault happens in my gnome-terminal window. It does not seem to be able to handle this switch gracefully. When I look at the output of "msgunfmt /usr/share/locale- langpack/en/LC_MESSAGES/yelp.mo", I see the line "Language-Team: Shavian \n" The msgstr's in the lines are in Shavian English. In fact, when I move the yelp.mo file to yelpUSERDISABLE.mo - the problem with the weird characters goes away I did an "apt-get source yelp" and within the po subdirectory are three English po files, which I believe are Canadian, British and Shavian po files. I guess the Shavian file got changed into a binary catalog file and was pushed into that directory as the default for English, and that catalog overrides the default. [Bug 605577] Re: Help contents title bar shows cubes with numbers instead of a proper title
I posted some information in bug #622082 but I made it a duplicate of this. The "funny characters in a cube" printed are Unicode characters. Specifically, Unicode Shavian characters - an alternative method of displaying the English language, invented by George Bernard Shaw. I ran gnome-language-selector, switched my language to Spanish (from Spain), restarted Gnome and the bad toolbar went away, the proper Spanish characters were displayed in yelp. So this is a problem that those with a Spanish language environment are not having, but those with an English environment are having. I should note that I only chose Spanish as I understand a little of it, I'm sure other languages are functioning. The problem is English is being displayed in a Shavian mode instead of as en_US or en_GB or the like. [Bug 509179] Re: The "½" character does n ot print correctly.
This used to not be a problem with poppler, but after a code commit on November 1, 2008, it stopped working. [Bug 507679] Re: evince mostly un-responsive, without CPU load
I was going to say temporarily move your .recently-used.xbel file in case it is trying to reload a broken PDF file, but if this is happening with or without argument, that shouldn't be a problem. The problem you describe only happens to me when it is called without argument and tries to load a broken PDF. Was it fine with Karmic and then broke, or was it like this from the first time you tried to run it? One thing that might help diagnose this is to type "script evince.out" and then "strace -tt evince" Then, if "Force Quit" pops up do that, or go to "File -> Close". Then hit Control-D in the terminal window. Then attach the output here. For me evince's UI shows up in about a second, on a less powerful machine. With strace running, it takes about five seconds - and that is on the strace delay. -- evince mostly un-responsive, without CPU load https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/507679 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 459569] Re: The current version (2.28.1) does not render some documents that worked perfectly under earlier versions.
This is the same bug as #497175. I know it is because I tried to read the attached file here with the current 9.10 evince version (2.28.1) linked against four poppler libraries - the latest development poppler library, the current 9.10 poppler library (0.12.0), the poppler library after the bad commit to poppler on July 26, 2009 that breaks this functionality, and the commit just prior to that bad poppler commit. I am moving this to the poppler section as this is not a problem with evince per se, but a problem with poppler which evince is dependent on. I am also linking to the bug report of this on poppler's bug tracking page at freedesktop.org. I've posted a patch against the current poppler development library on freedesktop.org. The patch simply pulls out the July 26, 2009 bad code committed to the drawImageMaskPrescaled method and replaces it with the method code before that commit. The original bad commit tried to replace the old, working code with new code using the (as of then) new cairo functionality for drawing outside of a pattern. So either the poppler maintainers will commit my patch, get it working, and then at some point try to re-implement that new cairo functionality, or they will simply try to fix the problem in their original bad commit. To put it more simply, my patch fixes this problem. As far as the patch getting committed to poppler, or getting downstream to Ubuntu, I've talked about that above. ** Package changed: evince (Ubuntu) => poppler (Ubuntu) ** Summary changed: - The current version (2.28.1) does not render some documents that worked perfectly under earlier versions. + poppler (by evince) could render this pdf prior to 0.12.0, now can not. ** Bug watch added: freedesktop.org Bugzilla #25755 https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25755 ** Also affects: poppler via https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25755 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- poppler (by evince) could render this pdf prior to 0.12.0, now can not. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/459569 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to poppler in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 499570] Re: menubars not rendering
You have three versions listed in your version table. I think the problem is you should only have two. The second version (2.28.1-0ubuntu1.2 0 500 http://gb.archive.ubuntu.com karmic- updates/main Packages) should be the one you're using . You appear to have pulled down a personal package archive version of evince rather than the one that is in karmic main. How are you pulling down updates, via apt? What is the response when you do "grep -i ppa.launchpad.net /etc/apt/sources.list". If you have ppa.launchpad.net in your /etc/apt.sources.list file, you should probably comment it out with an octothorpe (#) in front of those lines which contain it. Then you may want to do remove and re-install the evince package. -- menubars not rendering https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/499570 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 497175] Re: This program do not read every pdf files. I can send an exemple. Give me an adress.
The code that caused this problem has been found. It was poppler commit "512b2c654fd80c83b82e7adc828a478a18de17ab" on July 26, 2009. You have poppler 0.12.0 as a dependency, and this commit was made prior to that release. I posted a patch against the latest poppler source on freedesktop. Now that the cause is known, any version of poppler after the bad commit should be easy to patch. If my patch is committed to poppler, eventually there will be another poppler patch, where what the 512b...17ab was trying to do will be put in - correctly. Problem is in either libpoppler-glib4 0.12.0-0ubuntu2.1 or libpoppler5 0.12.0-0ubuntu2.1 dependency, not evince.
