[Bug 222077] Re: GConf Editor menu item should be moved into System->Preferences
Ok that rational make a lot of sense. Still even if the configuration editor icon is hidden by default system->prefferences seems to be the most appropriate place for it. If it were already hidden in preferences, users who wanted it could just check the show box in alacart menu editor rather than having a single icon in the system tools submenu or needing to create a whole new item in preferences. This is obviously of minor importance but I don't think that having configuration editor hidden by default invalidates this bug. [Bug 288472] Re: I have no sound. Computer says I have an AC 97, and the help page says to open a shell and type the code in. Being new to Ubuntu, I dont know where to find a shell!
I believe you are looking for the terminal. If you go to applications -> accessories -> terminal the GNOME terminal will open. This is the most common command line interface (CLI) in ubuntu used to enter commands. A little research online is telling me that shell and terminal are not quite the same thing but are often used interchangably. Im still a bit fuzzy on the shell concept. If you are not looking for the terminal my apologies. As for your sound issues I am unable to help as of yet. If you could discover what sound card you have a search online would likely lead you to a place where other people have run into your problem. Unfortunately I don't know the appropriate command to tell you what sound card you have. As a side note the next ubuntu release intrepid ibex 8.10 is due out in 6 days and is in release candidate stage as of yesterday. You could look into upgrading or installing intrepid which may possibly solve your problem but may also cause some other bug to occur. -- I have no sound. [Bug 185821] Re: nautilus-cd-burner confusing dvd burning size error
I should clarify that the size of the disc the error says is required is depended on how much data you have actually tried to burn. This is handy. Although its measurement is the only measurement reported is GiB. [Bug 185821] Re: nautilus-cd-burner confusing dvd burning size error
Lets see if I can make myself more clear. *yes it is reproducible *Reproduction: 1) put a standard single layer blank dvd disc in dvd burning drive 2) on the desktop right click 'Blank DVD-ROM Disk' and select 'Open with "CD/DVD Creator"' 3) A nautilus window opens that says 'CD/DVD Creator'. Drag into this window over 4.3 GB of data as reported by nautilus. 4) click 'Write to Disc' -> an error will occur leaving the message Reload a rewritable or blank disc Please replace the disc in the drive with a supported disc with at least 4.4 GiB free. The following disc types are supported: DVD+R DL *nautilus reports 4.5GB (I'm using a different amount of data than when first reported). The error message reports I need a disc with at least 4.4GiB free. The disc says on itself that it is 4.7GB. My confusion with this error message is that I did not understand at first that my DVD was too small. Changing the title of the error message to something like 'Not Enough Space On Disc' would solve this. I think a part of the issue is due to the different ways to measure of data, base 2 or base 10 this unfortunately will forever plague us. -- nautilus-cd-burner confusing dvd burning size error https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/185821 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
