So upstream has marked the bug as obsolete, since GNOME 3 has dropped
gnome-appearance-properties. Do we want to apply the patch in Ubuntu? Or
is Ubuntu also dropping gnome-appearance-properties with the move to
unity? Either way, I'm sure Debian would be interested in this bug,

[Bug 566222] Re: gnome-control-center doesn't accept documented command line options

2010-04-20 Thread Gabe Gorelick
The question is, should this be considered a bug that the man pages
documents options that g-c-c doesn't accept, or that g-c-c doesn't
accept options that the man page documents? The former is a
documentation issue, while the latter is an implementation issue in
g-c-c. I'm tempted to vote for the latter, as there is no good reason
why g-c-c should accept some common options like --help but not
--version. In that case I suppose this should be forwarded upstream to
gnome, and then if they won't fix (which I can see them possibly doing)
forward it to Debian to get the man page corrected.

2010-04-19 Thread Gabe Gorelick
ubuntu-docs doesn't deal with man pages. That belongs to the application
in question. Even if it did, this is an error in gnome-control-center
not accepting some options, rather than some non-functional options
being documented, as g-c-c should definitely accept an option like
--version.

Binary package hint: gnome-control-center

In Karmic and Lucid, gnome-control-center has some command line options

[Bug 359199] Re: Wlan is disabled when the laptop lid is closed.

2010-04-05 Thread Gabe Gorelick
Is your laptop configured to suspend when the lid is closed? When it
suspends, it will turn off networking to save battery. Go to System ->
Preferences -> Power Management and make sure On AC Power and On Battery
Power -> "When laptop lid is closed" aren't set to suspend or hibernate.

If that doesn't fix the problem, have you tested it on Karmic or Lucid

[Bug 535322] Re: no gui options to switch title bar buttons back to right side

2010-03-28 Thread Gabe Gorelick
This bug is not about whether the new window buttons are good or bad.
This bug is about how there is no gui option to switch the buttons back
to the right side. It is therefore beyond this bug's scope to talk about
whether the window button positioning should be kept. Appropriate
comments regarding the new window buttons are welcome at bug #532633.
Thank you.

[Bug 535322] Re: no gui options to switch title bar buttons back to right side

2010-03-25 Thread Gabe Gorelick
It looks like the buttons are going to remain on the left for the time
being [1]. Bug #532633 has a lot more information on the topic.

As a side note, let's not be too hasty with Ubuntu for their design
decision. As Sebastien stated above, this will be fixed by the time
Lucid is released so that other themes besides the light ones will have
the old behavior. And if you can't wait, I think bug #532633 may discuss
some gconf hacks to revert back to the old behavior.

[Bug 535322] Re: no gui options to switch title bar buttons back to right side

2010-03-10 Thread Gabe Gorelick
I believe that they've finally decided to keep the window control
buttons on the right for the new themes in Lucid, so that solves your
basic problem. But the more general problem of not being able to control
the location of the window controls still exists. gnome-appearance-
properties does give you the option to change the window border to
another given variety, but does not allow you to edit existing window
borders, which would be a nice feature.

[Bug 519177] Re: Screensaver doesn't lock screen when Volume Icon expanded to change volume

2010-02-15 Thread Gabe Gorelick
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 49579 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/49579

This has nothing to do with locking, as whether or not locking is
enabled, the screensaver does not activate when the volume slider has
focus. It also isn't limited to the volume applet, as the volume
mananger's right click menu and network manager's left click menu also
exhibit this behavior, though interestingly the calendar applet's left
click menu is not effected.
