[Bug 110420] Re: Workspace Names Don't Take

2007-08-28 Thread Geoff J
Hi

I hope that by subscribing to this bug it will be reopened.

I have the same problem. I am using the default Gnome desktop (I think
the manager is Metacity?). I insert names for the desktops and save
them but on reopening, they have dissapeared. However, if I switch to
another manager (beryl) and then back to Metacity some of the names
reappear (usually destop 1.

So the data is stored somewhere on the machine but is not being read in
correctly. Can you help me identify what is wrong?

[Bug 107748] Re: Evolution hangs temporarily, for periods of up to 5 or 10 minutes, since late in the Feisty development cycle

2007-09-14 Thread Geoff J
Hi

I have been putting up with this problem ever since I moved to Feisty.
It is just getting worse which is why I am now looking for a solution to
it but it seems that one does not exist as the root cause has not been
determined.

I also do not think it is an IMAP or LDAP issue but something to do with
the data server as killing that takes the problem away. It is very
frustrating when trying to work and time is limited. It is also not a
good advert for promoting the linux desktop. Has this been referred
back to Novell? Do we know if it occurs on other desktop versions or
only the Ubuntu based desktops?

[Bug 27014] Re: evolution bug, "Summary and folder mismatch, even after a sync"

2006-11-12 Thread Geoff J
I know this is not the solution but it is a work around that works!

Please make sure you back up the relevan data file for the problem
folder first, just in case.

Often when the mismatch message occurs evolution cannot generate a .ev-
summary file, especially with large (500+ Meg) files.

To overcome the problem for folder FOO

Make a new folder FOO1

go to FOO and select all emails

Move all mails from FOO to FOO1

select FOO1 (the mismatch error will come up again as you leave FOO)

Check all the mails are there.

Quit and restart evolution to check the data is there, select FOO1.
Then select another folder to make sure the error does not occur on this
new file.

Delete FOO (you need to expunge it first)

Rename FOO1 to FOO

Everything should now work.

Finally, for good housekeeping check the
~/.evolution/mail/local/Inbox.sbd/... directory to see that the new
files are all listed as FOO.

This does not always happen (some will retain the FOO1 element) and it
will not cause a problem but will be confusing if you regularly check
the evolution directory and file structure so;

Instead of renaming FOO1 to FOO

Stop then restart evolution

Make a new folder FOO

Move the files from FOO1 to FOO

Stop start and check once more

Delete FOO1

Hope this of use to beleaguered evo users

[Bug 110420] Re: Workspace Names Don't Take

2007-08-28 Thread Geoff J
Further information.

When I move a window to another workspace, the list of workspaces DOES
show the workspace names so the information is definitely there and
correct but the panel icons for the workspaces are not picking them up.

I also notice that when my machine hangs there is no massive use of the
CPU. There are occasional spikes of activity but generally, the
processor remains idle. It has just occurred for the third time in an
hour so I am again killing and restarting evolution. Is there any
informaiton I can rpovide to try to help resolve this problem?
