[Bug 1035221] Re: xdg-open/gnome-open opens blank firefox

2012-08-12 Thread Greg Auger
It's worth noting that this bug doesn't exhibit itself in a guest
session.

[Bug 1035221] [NEW] xdg-open/gnome-open opens blank firefox

2012-08-10 Thread Greg Auger
Public bug reported:

Both
xdg-open http://google.com
and
gnome-open http://google.com
result in a new Firefox window, with a single "empty" tab.

This is not the expected result - I expect the page to open in a new
tab/window. Running
firefox http://google.com
gives the expected result.

Whilst I am seeing the bug under quantal (regression from precise) the
packages xdg-utils and libgnome2-0 are the same version in both cases.

"/desktop/gnome/url-handlers/http/command" is set in both cases to "firefox %s"

[Bug 1029932] [NEW] Brightness and Volume laptop keys behave inconsistently

2012-07-27 Thread Greg Auger
Public bug reported:

Holding the volume up button causes the volume to continually go up. The
same doesn't work for brightness - the button has to be repeatedly
pressed.

This inconsistency can be confusing for users. I believe the preferable
behaviour is that of the volume buttons.

[Bug 1029339] [NEW] Battery time remaining fluctuates wildly, despite charge declining predictably

2012-07-26 Thread Greg Auger
Public bug reported:

Please take a look at the attachment.

The percentage charge remaining on my battery appears to show my battery
emptying fairly predictably (graph #1). However, the very important Time
to Empty statistic fluctuates quite a lot (graph #2). Certainly more
than the charge remaining graph suggests it should. I believe this is
because of the rate of power consumption (graph #3).

I believe that the Time to Empty statistic should be refined to take
into account a longer period of time previously. Clearly the statistic
needs to change if more power demanding activities are being carried
out. However, it shouldn't change so rapidly - brief fluctuates should
effectively be ignored.

The Time to Empty number is incredibly important to users' use of
portable devices.

Note: this may be something that needs addressing in one of gnome-power-
manager's dependencies, I don't know the stack well enough. So please
reassign if necessary.

[Bug 1007547] [NEW] totem-mozilla would be more useful if it displayed time and time remaining

2012-06-01 Thread Greg Auger
Public bug reported:

(This is a wishlist item, rather than a proper bug.)

I think that Totem within Firefox would be a lot more useful if it
displayed times. I usually end up right clicking and pressing "Open with

[Bug 963976] [NEW] "Behaviour" tab of "Appearance" contains options that aren't about appearance

2012-03-24 Thread Greg Auger
Public bug reported:

The Apperance settings window contains two sections - "Look" and
"Behaviour".

It is clear to me how the items in the first can be categorised as
Appearance (desktop background, theme, launcher size).

However, those in the Behaviour tab are (almost by definition) not about
the visual appearance.

Due to Bug #963976, I would lean towards moving Appearance > Behaviour

[Bug 963731] [NEW] Fixing Bug #950136 has caused a confusing Displays interface

2012-03-24 Thread Greg Auger
Public bug reported:

Please see the attached screenshot.

The top options are monitor specific (they depend on which monitor you
have clicked on in the preview image at the top).

The bottom two options (launcher placement and sticky edge) apply to all
monitors. These were introduced when fixing Bug #950136.

This distinction is not at all clear in the interface.

I wonder if one way to fix this might be to put some of the options
above the monitor preview image thing.

[Bug 773039] [NEW] en_GB translation should use "Rubbish Bin"

2011-04-29 Thread Greg Auger
Public bug reported:

Per the description of Bug #406626 then "Rubbish Bin" is the correct
term for British English.

There are quite a few of strings involving the Trash/Bin/Wastebasket to
be fixed, though should be a very simple fix (I just don't have the
permissions).

[Bug 745983] [NEW] Pressing X on a nautilus window, quits all nautilus windows (and refreshes the desktop)

2011-03-30 Thread Greg Auger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

1. Open a nautilus window
2. Open another one (middle click the File Manager launcher in unity)
3. Close one of the windows with the "X" button

Excepted result: only that window closes
Actual result: both (all) windows close and the Unity desktop visibly refreshes

This seems to be because the "X" close button is performing the
File->Close All Windows (Ctrl+Q) behaviour rather than the File->Close
(Ctrl+W) behaviour.

[Bug 681126] [NEW] Selections work column by column, not row by row

2010-11-24 Thread Greg Auger
Public bug reported:

When selecting text that is in "blocks" (see attached PDF) then text is
selected in columns, rather than in rows. In some contexts this makes
PDF readers that use poppler almost useless.

The problem was noticed in Evince and Okular. Adobe Reader does not
experience this problem.

[Bug 675660] Re: Simplified About Me per specification

2010-11-15 Thread Greg Auger
Thank you for the reply. Do you know if that blueprint is going to be
worked on on this cycle (e.g. for Natty)? It seems a shame if it will
not be.

This does still happen in Maverick. The screenshot attached shows the
discrepancy between the actual page shown in Evince, and the print

(the strange screenshot dimensions are because I have two monitors)

[Bug 649197] [NEW] cannot connect to NetStorage WebDAV, can with fusedav

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gvfs

I can run "fusedav -D -u username -p password_here

privacy purposes, but you get the idea.

[Bug 281713] Re: evince doesn't print vector images in PDF

2008-11-04 Thread Greg Auger
I would suggest that the importance of this bug be raised per
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance

It does not fulfill any Low criteria:
* Ones that can be easily worked around <- no workaround
* Ones that affect unusual configurations or uncommon hardware <- everyone
with a printer
* A bug that has a moderate impact on a non-core application <- this is a
core application
* A cosmetic/usability issue that does not limit the functionality of an
application <- this does limit the functionality

I would consider it Medium:
* A bug that has a moderate impact on a core application.
* A problem with a non-essential hardware component (network card, camera,
webcam, music player, sound card, power management feature, printer, etc.)

[Bug 274085] [NEW] Please update Ekiga to 3.00

2008-09-24 Thread Greg Auger
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: ekiga

Ekiga 3.00 has just been released. This is a major update to the current
version in the repositories.

* New user interface with a buddy list
* Accelerated video display (Unix: XVideo, Windows: DirectDraw)
* Nice incoming call notifications
* Easier configuration assistant
* New quality meter in the status bar
* Buddy list with extended status information
* Displays network neighbours in the buddy list
* Better keyboard shortcuts
* Automatic account completion in the URL bar
* New chat window
* New address book supporting Evolution contacts, LDAP contacts and more
* New account window allowing easier account creation
* New call panel

http://blog.ekiga.net/?p=97

I don't suppose this justifies a freeze exception for Intrepid as it is
installed by default and is in main (even if not that many people use
it).
