[Bug 139725] no explanation of "desktop effects" settings

2007-09-14 Thread James \"Doc\" Livingston
Public bug reported:

The "desktop effects" tab of the appearance perferences dialog does not
have any explanation of what the three settings mean, and how "normal
effects" and "extra effects" are different.

[Bug 129037] screen stuck faded out when exiting SDL applications

2007-07-29 Thread James \"Doc\" Livingston
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-screensaver

When using a fullscreen SDL application (usually a game), gnome-
screensaver correctly doesn't start the screen-saver while I'm using the
application. However about one time out of four, the screen will fade
out as soon as the application exits, and it will not fade back in,
leaving the screen completely black. The keyboard and mouse still work,
and I can do things, so it has probably just changed the gamma table.

[Bug 86781] Re: [apport] rhythmbox crashed with SIGSEGV in _PyObject_New()

[Bug 69286] Loading RSS feed offers firefox-specific functionality

2006-10-30 Thread James \"Doc\" Livingston
Public bug reported:

When Epiphany gets given the URL of an RSS (e.g.
http://www.abc.net.au/triplej/thissportinglife/podcast/tsl.xml) it loads
it using the Firefox 2.0 RSS handler, which displays a page with options
for things like "Live Bookmarks" which Epiphany doesn't do.

The best thing to do would be to display the dialog from the "New Feed
Subscription" extension (an official one). I'm not sure what should
happen if that is turned off, but offering firefox-specific bits isn't
good.

[Bug 55045] Re: DAAP shares not listed

2006-08-06 Thread James \"Doc\" Livingston
Are the DAAP servers running on the same machine as Rhythmbox? Rhythmbox
doesn't display local DAAP shares.

Making it show local shares which are from a different user on the same
machine is http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=342655

[Bug 35661] Re: Cant' change "default" sound card

This issue appears to be re-ocurring since I recently updated some alsa-
related packages. Removing the ~/.asound* files doesn't appear to help.

[Bug 43853] Re: Rhythmbox shouldn't be scanning the video files

2006-05-12 Thread James \"Doc\" Livingston
Rhythmbox has to scan all files, because until it scans them it doesn't
know whether they contain audio and/or video. Mimetypes aren't enough,
because many types like application/ogg and video/quicktime are just
containers, and so may contain audio (Vorbis, AAC) or video (Theora, QT
video).

The problem of RB crashing on imports has been fixed for 0.9.4, if the
metadata-helper is enabled (which it is by default). Using that
importing is run in a separate process, so crahes in GStreamer won't
kill RB.

[Bug 35725] Re: playback error when playing flac files from remote shared library

2006-05-12 Thread James \"Doc\" Livingston
This is caused by a known gstreamer bug,
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=340492. The "flacdec" element
doesn't support push-based operation, and the "gnomevfssrc" element
doesn't support pull-based operation, so it doesn't work.

[Bug 35661] Re: Cant' change "default" sound card

2006-04-26 Thread James \"Doc\" Livingston
After moving those files away, chaging sounds cards works fine. Below is the
info you asked for, if it's still interesting.

> asoundconf is-active; echo $?

Always returns 0

> asoundconf get defaults.pcm.card

The name of whichever sound card is chosen

> asoundconf list

AudioPCI
V8237

asoundrc:
# ALSA library configuration file

# Include settings that are under the control of asoundconf(1).
# (To disable these settings, comment out this line.)

.asoundrc.asoundconf:
# ALSA library configuration file managed by asoundconf(1).
#
# MANUAL CHANGES TO THIS FILE WILL BE OVERWRITTEN!
#
# Manual changes to the ALSA library configuration should be implemented
# by editing the ~/.asoundrc file, not by editing this file.
!defaults.pcm.card AudioPCI

Both those files seem normal (not missing user-write permission or anything)

[Bug 33868] Re: Shuffle mode is dumb

It's stopping when you press previous, because there is no previous
track. The previous button shouldn't be enabled and let this happen, so
I've re-opened gnome bug 335490.

[Bug 35661] Cant' change "default" sound card

2006-03-19 Thread James \"Doc\" Livingston
Public bug reported:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/35661

Affects: gnome-media (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
I have two sound cards in my machine (onboard and a real sound card),
and gnome-sound-properties correctly shows both.

The "Default sound card" option recently switched to my onboard card
(which I don't use) for some reason. Selecting the other card from the
drop-menu does not appear to work, and it reverts as soon as the sound
properties are re-opened.

All applications use the right sound card, however the volume controls
affect the wrong one.

[Bug 30185] Rhythmbox uses excessive memory/Possible Leak?

normal for a library that large.

The increasing VM size is an issue I noticed the other day, and reported
as gnome bug 329713 (against gstreamer).

[Bug 30120] "Monitor Library" doesn't support gnome-vfs

2006-02-02 Thread James \"Doc\" Livingston
Public bug report changed:
https://launchpad.net/malone/bugs/30120

Comment:
This is fixed in cvs HEAD by
http://cvs.gnome.org/viewcvs/rhythmbox/data/glade/library-
prefs.glade?r1=1.8&r2=1.9

Note that this hasn't got a huge amount of testing (since most people
have their music locally), but it seems to work from my small amount of
testing. Detecting new changes at runtime requires a properly working
FAM set up to work over the network though.
