[Bug 210286] Re: visual corruption when switching from details view to icons

When switching from list view to icon view visual corruption of
background appears. This did not start out this way, occurred after a
few hours of intermittent use. The background is using a wallpaper. I
tried to find a bug report that was not listed as invalid for this bug.
I have an AMD video card.

[Bug 210286] Re: visual corruption when switching from details view to icons

2008-04-27 Thread Jared
When switching from list view to icon view visual corruption of
background appears. This did not start out this way, occurred after a
few hours of intermittent use. The background is using a wallpaper. I
tried to find a bug report that was not listed as invalid for this bug.
I have an AMD video card.

[Bug 160311] Re: Window Resize Difficult (Window Border Thickness)

2009-05-29 Thread Jared Biel
I'm here to add my concern for this bug. I'm currently using a jaunty
netbook with a 1024x600 resolution and resizing windows "naturally"
(using my cursor on a window edge) is almost always an absolute chore if
not impossible. On my 1920x1200 desktop computer it's not quite as
difficult with my trackball but it's more difficult than it should be.

Now, I don't know if a patch that allows for border resizing is the
right step. Making the borders larger takes away from screen real
estate. Would it be possible to keep the borders at 1px while extending
the [invisible] "resize threshold" out 5 or 10 pixels on each side of
the border?

I haven't used KDE since they released version 4 [ick] but I don't
remember having any issues resizing windows with version 3.X - maybe the
gnome project can borrow their window resize code?

[Bug 388765] [NEW] can only open 1 gnome-terminal if launched from favorites

2009-06-17 Thread Jared Langson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Version information:
Ubuntu 9.04
gnome-terminal 2.26.0
human-netbook-theme 0.15
netbook-launcher 1.6.20
ubuntu-netbook-remix 1.139
ubuntu-netbook-remix-defualt 0.5.1

What I expect to happen:
If I have a gnome-terminal open, and I click on the gnome-terminal launcher I
expect a 2nd gnome-terminal to launch.

What happens:
I have 1 gnome-terminal open. I click on the gnome-terminal launcher, and focus
switches to the already open gnome-terminal. A 2nd gnome-terminal does not
appear.

How to reproduce:
Run the netbook remix gui. Have a gnome-terminal launcher in favorites. Have
"focus follows mouse" enabled. Click on the gnome-terminal launcher that is in
favorites. Click again on the gnome-terminal launcher that is in favorites.

This is definitely fixed upstream in the bug that you mentioned. Looks
like this is a dupe of Ubuntu bug 190658.

[Bug 133706] Re: Gnome-session-properties : It is too easy to remove an startup application.

2008-02-07 Thread Jared Moore
There is a patch in upstream ( at
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468594 ) but there's some
disagreement as to whether this is a good solution to the problem.
Unfortunately the Gnome UI freeze date has passed, so it's too late for
2.22.

[Bug 190658] [NEW] [Hardy] gucharmap doesn't save settings when not run from command line

2008-02-10 Thread Jared Moore
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gucharmap

Steps to reproduce:

1) Run gucharmap from a command line
2) Change some settings (e.g. selected character, bold/italic, etc)
3) Close gucharmap
4) Run gucharmap from a command line again
5) Observe that the changed settings have been saved
6) Now run gucharmap from Applications->Accessories->Character Map
7) Observe that everything is back to default settings

Seems like gucharmap isn't talking to gconf properly. From the command
line run "gconftool -g /apps/gucharmap/last_char", then move to a
different character and run "gconftool -g /apps/gucharmap/last_char"
again. It should have changed. This only happens when run from the
command line.

I have an understanding of the gucharmap source code, how to use gdb,
etc, but I can't figure out how to load debugging symbols into gdb when
attaching it to an already-running program (as is necessary to debug it
when run from the applications menu).

[Bug 190658] Re: [Hardy] gucharmap doesn't save settings when not run from command line

2008-02-11 Thread Jared Moore
Debugging that way doesn't seem to correctly load all the debugging
symbols, e.g.:

Breakpoint 1, 0xb7beb313 in gucharmap_settings_set_last_char ()
   from /usr/lib/libgucharmap.so.6
(gdb) n
Single stepping until exit from function gucharmap_settings_set_last_char,
which has no line number information.
0xb7bdeb4d in ?? () from /usr/lib/libgucharmap.so.6
(gdb) n
Cannot find bounds of current function
(gdb) where
#0 0xb7bdeb4d in ?? () from /usr/lib/libgucharmap.so.6
#1 0x0057 in ?? ()
#2 0xb774a248 in ?? () from /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0
#3 0xbf8a0148 in ?? ()
#4 0xb76d21c1 in ?? () from /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0
#5 0x0057 in ?? ()

#7 0xbf8a0158 in ?? ()
#8 0xb774a248 in ?? () from /usr/lib/libglib-2.0.so.0
#9 0x in ?? ()

However, if I start gucharmap from a terminal, attaching gdb gets all
the symbols and works fine. :/

Attached is an strace log in which I clicked around on a few different
characters and then closed the program.

Also does not work if i use Alt-F2 to run gucharmap.

BUT

If I compile the source myself (from the ubuntu repos) and then run the

[Bug 111896] Re: menu editor massively defective

2008-02-16 Thread Jared Moore
I wouldn't say that it's "massively deficient", but it does have several
serious bugs. Could you be more specific, e.g.

1) Which operations do you think are slow?
2) Would you be able to describe any more specific test cases? Several problems
are already known.
3) How could it be easier to use? What extra features could it have?
4) Yes, you did :)

I'm not sure that integration with Add/Remove programs is such a good
idea. Add/Remove programs is a user-friendly package manager, while
Alacarte is a main menu editor... although they are vaguely related, I
can't imagine a good way to put them together. After all, Unix is all
about small specific programs doing one thing well :)

[Bug 294268] [NEW] Brasero reporting blank CDR's as having no free space in Intrepid

2008-11-05 Thread Jared M.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: brasero

Ubuntu version:
:$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 8.10
Release:8.10

brasero version:
  Installed: 0.8.2-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0.8.2-0ubuntu1

Description of bug:
When attempting to burn a CD using Brasero, it always reports the blank CD as
having no free space. On the "New Audio Disk Project" window where you add
tracks to the project, it shows a red "overburn" error message in the bottom
status bar. If you continue trying to burn the cd, the "Disk Burning Setup"
window shows "0 bytes free" for the "Size:" value. If you continue to attempt
to burn the CD, you get the following error:

"Error while burning:
Insufficient space on media (0 available for 197374)."

Expectations:
I did an upgrade to Intrepid yesterday, and prior to that upgrade, I have never
had a problem burning CD's or DVD's.

I will happily give you hardware information if there is a preferred
method to find out the type of CD Burner I'm using. I do get this
message in the system log if that is any help:

... kernel: [6171.835566] cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I
recognize!

[Bug 303528] [NEW] Message Filters for IMAP point to lo...@local

2008-11-29 Thread Jared Greenwald
Public bug reported:

1) 8.10
2) evolution-2.24.2-0ubuntu1
3) I created a filter based on a mailing list whose action is to move the
message to a folder on an imap. When attempting to apply the filter manually
(via ctrl+y), the filter fails to apply resulting in an error in the status bar.
4) What is actually happening is that in the filter.xml file the filter is not
being recorded with the proper account information. Rather than having the
proper account id in the uri, the [EMAIL PROTECTED] account is used instead. I
imagine if the requested folder existed in the local folders, the filter would
not fail, but this is not the case.

[Bug 248387] [NEW] SmugMug exporter fails to upload multiple photos

2008-07-14 Thread Jared M.
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: f-spot

The Smugmug exporter fails between the first and second photo on a
multiple photo export with the message:

"Error Uploading To Gallery: Object reference not set to an instance of
an object"

This is on Ubuntu 8.04, with F-Spot 0.4.3.1-0ubuntu1 and Smugmug export
plugin 0.4.3.0 and 0.4.3.1 (I tried both).

I double checked and the first photo of the set does make it up on
smugmug, but not the second.

In the export dialog I do NOT select Style->Resize to: or Style->Autorotate.
I have tried selecting and unselecting Album->Open Album in browser... with
no change in error message.

lsb_release -rd:
Description:Ubuntu 8.04.1
Release:8.04

[Bug 248387] Re: SmugMug exporter fails to upload multiple photos

2008-07-21 Thread Jared M.
This bug was fixed in F-Spot's SVN, and was discussed in bugzilla bug
542934 http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=542934. Ubuntu should
update it's distributed version to the updated version.

[Bug 157099] Re: Automatic installation of DVD CSS support

2007-11-28 Thread Jared Blecker
Under the DMCA its illegal to develop, distribute, or use any tool that
can break or bypass an encryption, which the libdvdcss2 library does
just that, bypasses the CSS encryption system. Now there are certain
exceptions, like security research, and the question is whether or not
libdvdcss2 being used to only play back legally purchased DVDs on Linux
because no other method exist, is a valid exception. This question can
only be answered by passing legislation that modifies the DMCA or having
a court decision saying that the libdvdcss2 library is a vaild exception
to the DMCA.

For the time being, I believe Ubuntu should handle this issue in a user-
friendly but legally safe manner. This is what can be done when a user
inserts a DVD with CSS encryption:

Tell the user this disc cannot be played because of the CSS encryption
Tell them that there is a library called libdvdcss2 that can be used to play
back their DVD
Tell them this library isn't included in Ubuntu for legal reasons, and that it
can be found in third-party repositories

[Bug 135621] focus on mouseover prevents renaming

2007-08-29 Thread Jared Langson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Have a window open to nautilus and another window open to something
else. Have focus set to focus on mouseover or "sloppy focus". Have the
2nd window positioned so that when a 'file in nautilus -> right-click ->
rename' the rename is over the 2nd window. Instead of allowing you to
rename the file it changes focus to the other window. I'm in list view
and browser mode. I have focus on mouseover set to never raise windows
after a time interval. If this description is too awkard to be followed
I can provide screen shots.

[Bug 123153] renaming folders so that they are hidden disables certain keyboard and mouse shortcuts

2007-06-29 Thread Jared Langson
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Description:
When a a non hidden folder is renamed so that it becomes hidden enter and
double left clicking no longer open that folder/file and instead do nothing.
This problem is only contained within that window, when a new window is created
this problem does not exist. However, Alt+Down arrow, single right click ->
Open, and Ctrl+L then typing in the path, still work.

How to reproduce:
This has only been tested in my home folder. Choose any folder that is not
hidden. Single Right Click -> Rename and add . to the begining making it
hidden, press enter.

[Bug 123153] Re: renaming folders so that they are hidden disables certain keyboard and mouse shortcuts

2007-07-02 Thread Jared Langson
Sorry, maybe I wasn't clear enough. Yes I know that prefixing a . to a
name makes it a hidden file. However, I have nautilus set to view hidden
files so my complaint is not that the file "disapears" and I can't open
it. The bug that occurs prevents the use of ENTER or DOUBLE-LEFT-CLICK
from being used to open all folders, not just the one that has been
renamed.

I do get this
message in the system log if that is any help:

... kernel: [6171.835566] cdrom: This disc doesn't have any tracks I
recognize!
