[Bug 1922952] Re: issue about diskspace 21.04

2021-04-21 Thread Lars Martin Hambro
But can you tell? What should linux operatingsystem do if i only get 60
GB free space or less home folder should i expect crash and programs did
not works?

I think its hard to find out why linux did not boot. Only issue that can get on
diskspace:
OSError: [Errno 28] none diskspace.
But i know its issue with fedora 34 beta too that some programs crash if home
folder is used up.

I also know its issue about kubuntu on some system with AMD but did not find
out why, because its works with gnome and some other desktop system.
But i did not get much answer how to test.

Did you agree Apt-get install kubuntu-desktop
Or some other did have poor tools to fix broked KDE desktop? Some other say
reinstall System if only KDE or Unity failed but i hope you can give help.

[Bug 1865191] [NEW] Control center needs a keyboard shortcut for screen brightness

2020-02-28 Thread Lars Noodén
Public bug reported:

The control center has no pre-made shortcut for screen brightnesss.
There should at least be an option for screen brightness up and down, as
there is for sound volume up and down, even if no keys are set by
default. As it is, one has to make a complex work-around involving a
shell script and fiddling with /etc/sudoers. Please add pre-made
shortcuts for brightness up and brightness down under the section for
Keyboard Shortcuts.

[Bug 1195911] Re: ssh: Received disconnect from xx.yy.zz.aa: 2: Too many authentication failures for XXXX

2020-02-11 Thread Lars Noodén
I see this bug is still open. One work-around exists where
~/.ssh/config is used. Make an entry there for the host (or range of
hosts using a pattern) and assign the right key using IdentityFile while
also setting IdentitiesOnly to "yes". Both parts are needed for the
work-around.

[Bug 1831356] [NEW] Settings crashes when I click "Devices"(Enheter in norwegian) tap

2019-06-01 Thread Lars Bahner
Public bug reported:

Not much to say. It crashes every time, I cleick devices - and then
continues to crash on every start up. Trying the command:

  gsettings reset org.gnome.ControlCenter last-panel

as a known workaround for a similar problem, will let me access gnome-
control-center and use it, until I click Devices again.

[Bug 762306] Re: Doesn't follow XDG_CACHE_HOME

2018-11-02 Thread Lars Behrens
file-roller should use $XDG_CACHE_HOME or have an option to select a
different directory for caching.

When users' home directories are on a remote machine and mounted via
NFS, then file-rollers' habit of creating ~/.fr-* directories,
extracting there and moving back the result creates huge i/o-loads.

If $XDG_CACHE_HOME would be used, one could direct ~/.cache to some
local directory (which we already did).

If that's not possible maybe there is a possibility to define a
different extracting directory, e.g. by start variable or in the menu.

[Bug 1296487] Re: Initial zoom level is slightly under 100%

2018-02-27 Thread Lars
I have a similar zoom issue with Ubuntu 17.10 (Xorg).
Since I have a HiDPI display, I use the 200% scaling option and assume that
this might be correlated with the issue.

When I open a screenshot of 1246x878px, it is displayed in EOG at about the
correct size, however is looks anti-aliased and EOG says it is 50% zoom and not
100%.
Shotwell shows a similar behavior, Gimp and RawTherapee work fine.

[Bug 1488344] Re: dbus rejected send messages

2015-10-30 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Indeed, accountsservice sends a reply even when the client talking to it
doesn't want one. The dbus daemon doesn't remember messages that have
NO_REPLY_EXPECTED set, so the replies from accountsservice look like
unsolicited messages to it and it denies them.

Gnome bug #755421 argues that this should be fixed in gdbus, and I
agree. gdbus automatically sets NO_REPLY_EXPECTED when no callback is
given, so it makes sense that it also handles the server side by
discarding replies for such messages. I've attached a patch upstream.

[Bug 1503602] Re: Eog should show an Open with... menu item in the global menu under Unity

2015-10-07 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Thanks for reporting this bug. The way GNOME does menus has changed
quite a bit recently and as a result it is quite hard to have dynamic
menus of this kind in the global menu bar. We're working on a way to do
this in gtk, but it is too late in the cycle to land that work.

In the meantime, you can "Open With" from the context menu of the image
or from nautilus.

[Bug 1495173] Re: compiz crashed with SIGSEGV in g_bit_lock()

2015-09-17 Thread Lars Uebernickel
This is not a bug in glib. UploadBlacklist() loops through a list of
strings with

  for (auto item : blacklist_)
// do something with item.c_str()

which makes a copy of each string in every iteration. This means that
item.c_str() is not valid anymore after the loop finishes.
g_settings_set_strv() then rightly complains about invalid utf8 from
whatever is lying around at those memory addresses then.

The attached branch fixes this by using a const reference in the loop.

[Bug 627195]

2015-08-24 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Created attachment 88321
Add org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.Activate

Alex, the desktop entry spec recently gained support for
org.freedesktop.Application, which has a method Activate() that takes a
platform data. I think it makes sense to reuse this terminology and the
platform-data convention.

The attached patch deprecates Raise() and CanRaise in favor of
Activate() and CanActivate.

Instead of only passing a timestamp, this could be the same platform
data that GApplication uses in its Activate method (of type "asv").
This would make passing these kinds of things more uniform and easier to
handle for toolkits, as well as being extensible.

Maybe we could even call it Activate ;)

[Bug 1067301] Re: gnome-keyring does not support "ssh-add -c"

2015-08-12 Thread Lars Noodén
In 14.04.3 LTS it seems to be fixed so it is possible to load a key into
the agent using 'ssh-add -c' but then the confirmation dialog pops up
and does not accept the key's passphrase. Resulting in :

Agent admitted failure to sign using the key.
Permission denied (publickey,keyboard-interactive).

However, just pressing 'OK' on the gnome-ssh-askpass dialog goes ahead
with the login. So the input field should be removed from gnome-ssh-
askpass or else a different tool used, since entering anything in it
causes the login to fail.

[Bug 1447224] Re: Regression: Unable to select audio or subtitle tracks

2015-05-27 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Totem's menu xml has placeholders for subtitles and languages, which are
populated dynamically based on the video that is loaded.

The traditional menubar, the gear menu, and the fullscreen gear menu all
share the same placeholder ids and Totem inserts the dynamic submenu in
only one of them. I've worked around this issue in [1] by not populating
the gear menu and fullscreen gear menu at all. I think we can take this
for now.

We're thinking about how to fix this properly in gtk as well.

[Bug 1385619] Re: libgtk-3.a and libgdk-3.a missing in libgtk-3-dev

2015-04-16 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Statically linking gtk+ is uncommon and discouraged by gtk+ developers
(see "Extra Configuration Options" in [1]). Also, I don't think we
should increase the package size for such an uncommon a use case.

Please compile gtk+ yourself if you want to link your application to it
statically.

[Bug 1385624] Re: wrapper-2.0 crashed with SIGSEGV in strrchr()

2015-04-16 Thread Lars Uebernickel
This crashes because indicator-messages sends and action name with a '|'
in it, which is invalid. I fixed this in r433 by escaping all ids[1],
which was released in 13.10.1+15.04.20150112-0ubuntu1.

Gtk currently assumes that those inputs are trusted and thus doesn't
verify them. There's been some discussion about changing that at some
point, but I think that's beyond the scope of this bug.

[Bug 803627] Re: empathy crashed with signal 5 in gtk_box_size_allocate()

2015-04-14 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Some widget (probably a custom one from empathy) reported a negative
minimum size, resulting in gtk to abort on an assertion. So this is not
really a gtk issue. Since it is quite old and I cannot reproduce it in
newer versions, I'll close it.

If this is still a problem for anyone, feel free to reopen this bug and
add empathy as being affected.

Though if I launch a new instance of gnome-terminal, specifying the

[Bug 1443273] [NEW] gdk_set_program_class breaks --class

2015-04-12 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Public bug reported:

When a program itself calls gdk_set_program_class(), passing --class on
the command line is a no-op.

Gnome-terminal does this to change it's WM_CLASS from gnome-terminal-
server to gnome-terminal. Many people use --class in a custom desktop
file to use profiles as applications. While this is not needed in newer
versions of gnome-terminal (it has --app-id now), it makes sense to
support this for backwards compatibility.

[Bug 1426163] Re: no locally integrated menus in gnome-terminal

2015-03-01 Thread Lars Uebernickel
This is because GNOME Terminal doesn't export its menus on D-Bus. We
have unity-gtk-module which does it for legacy menubars, but it gets
confused by the "Show Menubar" setting sometimes. I've started working
on this upstream (see the linked bug).

[Bug 1423300] [NEW] DNS servers not shown

2015-02-18 Thread Lars Noodén
Public bug reported:

the three (or less) servers actually provided by DHCP.

[Bug 1301784] Re: cannot search text beginning with Alt(-gr) special character

2014-12-21 Thread Lars
I can confirm this bug in 14.04 with a german keyboard. In my case it only
effects gedit. The search field closes by pressing alt or alt gr therefore
nothing can be entered in the search box based on those keys. The solution to
copy paste is not practicable for me since I search many [... or @... strings.
A solution could be to leave the searchbox open even when clicking on a menu
entry (which is another thing that closes the searchbox, but I guess that was
initially intended.

[Bug 1381804] Re: whoopsie test failure since glib2.0 2.41.2-1 uploaded

2014-10-16 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Posting on behalf of Ryan, who cannot log in right now.

He found out that the problem is in the test case itself. It uses
g_main_loop_quit() as a source callback from
test_callback_never_triggered. Source callbacks are supposed to return
bool for if they get issued again or not. Apparently on amd64 we
randomly end up with 0 in the return value register so the source
function gets unregistered. On x386 it's random junk, so the callback
gets run again, with the already freed mainloop.

Also, g_timeout_add_seconds (0.5) is bogus - the first argument is a
uint. Please change that to g_timeout_add(500).

[Bug 1355804] [NEW] Evince apparmor settings not allowing sitewide dconf changes

 3.10.3-0ubuntu10 0
500 http://dk.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main i386 Packages

There are a few issues here. The main problem is that the Evince apparmor
settings does not honor site wide dconf settings as described in dconf(7). I'm
currently preparing a multiuser setup where we need some site wide
configurations, one of which affects Evince.

Problem (1): As described in dconf(7) system wide settings can be made
by creating and editing /etc/dconf/profile/user, which will be read if
it exists. However if we do

echo 'user-db:user' | sudo tee -a /etc/dconf/profile/user
sudo dconf update
evince

We get the following warning

(evince:9145): dconf-WARNING **: Unable to open /etc/dconf/profile/user:
Permission denied

and the following message in SYSLOG

kernel: [ 1129.931888] type=1400 audit(1407843498.164:65):
apparmor="DENIED" operation="open" profile="/usr/bin/evince"
name="/etc/dconf/profile/user" pid=9145 comm="evince" requested_mask="r"
denied_mask="r" fsuid=1000 ouid=0

Indeed if we search through all files in /etc/apparmod.d , /etc/dconf is
not mentioned anywhere.

Possible solution: Add

/etc/dconf/** r,

to /etc/apparmor.d/abscractions/evince (I've added it at the end of the
/etc/ list already there), and run

sudo apparmor_parser -r /etc/apparmor.d/usr.bin.evince

Then there are no complaints anymore

Problem (2): Again reading dconf(7) it is recommended to change the
settigns if /home is NFS mounted. Thus in /etc/dconf/profile/user we
should replace /user-db:user' by 'service-db:keyfile/user'

This causes a new permission denied problem. Remember to run 'sudo dconf
update' and log out and ind again.

(evince:19187): dconf-WARNING **: unable to open file '/run/user/1000
/dconf-service/keyfile/user': Failed to open file '/run/user/1000/dconf-
service/keyfile/user': open() failed: Permission denied; expect degraded
performance

from syslog:

kernel: [ 5430.597984] type=1400 audit(1407848788.264:81):
apparmor="DENIED" operation="open" profile="/usr/bin/evince"
name="/run/user/1000/dconf-service/keyfile/user" pid=19188
comm=64636F6E6620776F726B6572 requested_mask="r" denied_mask="r"
fsuid=1000 ouid=1000

The apparmor files does mention '/run/user/' (in usr.bin.evince):

# Maybe add to an abstraction?
  owner /{,var/}run/user/*/dconf/ w,
  owner /{,var/}run/user/*/dconf/user rw,

however, this does not match 'dconf-service'. One can fix this by adding

owner /{,var/}run/user/*/dconf-service/keyfile/ w,
owner /{,var/}run/user/*/dconf-service/keyfile/user rw,

to /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions/evince (I added them right after the
other 'owner' lines at the top

[Bug 1296615] [NEW] seahorse hangs when adding subkey

2014-03-24 Thread Lars Noodén
Public bug reported:

Seahorse hangs every time when trying to add a subkey

PGP Keys -> (key) -> Properties -> Details -> Subkeys/Add -> type: RSA
(sign only), key length: 2048

It does not seem to matter which key type or the size. Instead of adding the
key, seahorse just stops responding. Eventually if I try to close the window,
a dialog box pops up with this message:

The window "..." does not seem to be
responding. Do you want to force it to exit by
   sending the terminate signal?
   CancelEnd Process

Waiting does not bring a response from seahorse, it seems gone.

[Bug 1130722] Re: [ffe] Restore a traditional menu under Unity

2014-02-28 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Hi Attila. The patch only enables the menubar when the "Gtk/shell-shows-
menubar" xsetting is set. That means, only on desktop environments that
show the menu bar outside of the application's window.

I don't think it is wise to check for the desktop environment to decide
whether to show the menu bar in the window or not (we'd need to do that
because we wouldn't want the menus in windows in gnome shell).

[Bug 1277370] Re: Now used Aiatana design blocks Evince accessibility usage if the current session is not Unity

2014-02-12 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Yes, one bug report on launchpad is enough. Feel free to assign me to
it. I'll file an upstream report if necessary.

2014-02-12 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Hey Attila. Thanks for mentioning this issue, but it doesn't seem to be
a regression introduced this patch (I'm seeing the same issue with prior
versions of evince 3.10). Can you please file a new bug for that?

[Bug 1277370] Re: Now used Aiatana design blocks Evince accessibility usage if the current session is not Unity

2014-02-11 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Unity will show the more traditional menu bar layout (File, Edit, View,
...) in its global menu bar. Pressing F10 should open those menus.

GNOME applications are moving towards a gear menu on the right side (in
ltr-layouts) of the toolbar. Evince does this as well (it has two new
buttons on the toolbar that open menus: view and actions). You will see
those when using GNOME shell. Pressing F10 will not open them right now.

[Bug 1277370] Re: Now used Aiatana design blocks Evince accessibility usage if the current session is not Unity

2014-02-10 Thread Lars Uebernickel
Attila, that patch removes the use of a function that isn't available in
gtk+ 3.10 (we won't upgrade to 3.12 in this cycle). Gtk should pick up
the accelerators from the menu xml, but doesn't for some reason. I've
added a workaround to the patch at lp:~larsu/evince/fix-accels.

This also fixes your caret navigation issue you mentioned.

[Bug 1260761] Re: file browser toolbar has wrong background color in Ambiance

2014-01-08 Thread Lars Uebernickel
The problem is that that toolbar is marked as a primary toolbar, which
ambiance colors dark. I've removed that in gedit upstream[1]. I'll
backport the patch when it is accepted.

[Bug 1262801] Re: eog hangs when the print dialog is closed

2014-01-07 Thread Lars Uebernickel
The patch I've attached to [1] fixes the issue, but I'm not sure if it
causes other problems. I'm waiting to hear from a eog maintainer for an
opinion.

[Bug 1251562] [NEW] eog gives wrong error message for missing file

2013-11-15 Thread Lars Noodén
Public bug reported:

If eog is fed a missing file, it reports that no images were found in
the file, rather than that the file itself is missing. This happens
every time eog is fed a missing file via the shell, but only via the
shell not the menus.

Say the file "/home/user/Pictures/foo.jpeg" does not exist but eog is
launched in the shell using "eog /home/user/Pictures/foo.jpeg" it will
produce the error below:

 No images found in file:///home/user/Pictures/foo.jpeg

It should report that the file is not found instead of implying that the
file exists but does not contain image data.

[Bug 1246272] Re: Keyboard layout changing randomly in 13.10 (saucy)

2013-11-09 Thread Lars Ola Liavåg
I've got the same problem. I don't even have the US keyboard layout
installed and yet, upon each login, the layout is set to US. Manually
setting it back to the correct one (Finnish in my case) works but after
a reboot, it's wrong again. Very annoying indeed.
