[Bug 2083530] Re: gnome-control-center not able to add printer or make settings
FOREMOST, IT'S A WARNING TO ALL USERS WHICH HAVE MAYBE THE SAME ISSUE. HANDS AWAY FROM MANUALLY INSTALLING OF CUPS ON UBUNTU!!! I thought that my problem could only have been caused by an error in the cups system. Foremost I did this from comment 3: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1286047/how-to-upgrade-cups-and-cups-filters-in-ubuntu-20-04-to-the-latest-versions-that cd ~/home/newcomer01/Downloads tar –zxvf cups-2.3.3-source.tar.gz cd /cups-2.3.3 ./configure make sudo make install It compiles/installs a lot of stuff, nobody knows if all these files and services really needed. After that, the complete cups System was broken and the command "sudo systemctl start cups" was never be able to start any cups-processes, due to lot file and dependencies issues from the box. Lot of hours I've spent to fix the errors, but without success. Now I searched again and found this: https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/817322 Then I do: sudo apt-get purge cups && sudo apt-get autoremove sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install cups sudo snap install cups Then I visited: https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups-snap And followed all suggested steps, see attached "cups_snap.txt" file. My Printer works again (with the snap-package of cups) but the Problem with the gnome-control-center (https://ibb.co/Sfxz7nY) exists further, maybe someone is able to find and fix this issue together with me. Otherwise, I need to wait, maybe future updates of component software or something will fix it again. I really don't know how I should search/find/fix this issue - don't know it's cause, sorry. ** Attachment added: "cups_snap.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/2083530/+attachment/5824914/+files/cups_snap.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2083530 Title: gnome-control-center not able to add printer or make settings To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/2083530/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 2083530] Re: gnome-control-center not able to add printer or make settings
1.) I Upgraded 22.04.* LTS AMD to 24.04.1 LTS AMD All was fine - except my Printer has stopped working (this has worked before the Upgrade!), but is installed again. This https://ibb.co/Sfxz7nY I didn't see in this first Step 2.) After a new reboot on the next day, I saw this https://ibb.co/Sfxz7nY (Printer doubled, blocked settings, so on) 3.) I've installed first (KDE-System-Einstellungen) https://ibb.co/0CFmpwx and this worked great from starting the first time 4.) I installed system-config-printer also and this works too https://ibb.co/r422CgJ I'm not sure what this problem with "gnome-control-center" has cause: - cups bug? - missing files for one or more components? - gtk bug? - gnome-control-center-bug? - wrong permissions? - all of them? [Bug 1987162] Re: 43: New Device Security feature is confusing and unhelpful currently
I don't understand not only why those advanced features would be exposed in a GUI, but why ordinary users would care at all about most of those settings. If we're going to expose "security information" to users, we should probably start by showing basic stuff, like if they are properly getting security updates, if remote login via ssh is turned on with passwords instead of certificates, whether they are using disk encryption or not, etc. If regular users can't easily fix the issues listed in there, from the GUI itself, I don't think it's appropriate to display that in the settings app. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-control-center in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1987162 Title: 43: New Device Security feature is confusing and unhelpful currently To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-control-center/+bug/1987162/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1982422] Re: Multiple vulnerabilities in Bionic, Focal and Jammy
I took a look at the debdiffs in #2, #3, and #8, and here are my comments: For Bionic: - The package doesn't build with the debdiff provided. Please fix and make sure it builds before submitting it again. - In CVE-2022-32990-2.patch, you dropped the section that patches xcf_load_buffer, but in Bionic, the function is called xcf_load_hierarchy, please add the section back and patch the appropriate function. For Focal: - The patch for CVE-2018-12713 is missing, please add it. For Jammy: - The patch for CVE-2018-12713 is missing, please add it. - You seemed to have bumped the version of gegl required in the debian/control file for no reason, and it is not mentioned in the changelog. [Bug 1857122] Re: New Windows are opened below other windows and require extra clicks to acees
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy. [Bug 1857383] Re: Fractional scaling does not work anymore
Hi Daniel, I verified from begining that i have Xorg and i enabeld from the begining only for Xorg by using information from this tutorial: http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2019/10/how-to-enable-fractional- scaling-in-ubuntu-19-10-eoan/ Using dconf and also using the terminal command afterwards.( I have attached printscreen with the settings from dconf). Also it was strange that after i came back from holiday it worked fine home ( 1x4k (150%scale) + 1xFHD + laptop), then at work i tried to scale the laptop display to 125% ( 2xFHD + laptop display) and had the issue again ... so it is random. ** Attachment added: "Screenshot from 2020-01-07 07-14-58.png" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1857383/+attachment/5318031/+files/Screenshot%20from%202020-01-07%2007-14-58.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1857383 Title: Fractional scaling does not work anymore To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1857383/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 1857383] Re: Fractional scaling does not work anymore
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I have installed Ubuntu 20.04 about 2-3 weeks ago (for the single motive that has fractional scalling) and when activating fractional scalling worked fine, in the meantime i reinstalled again Ubuntu 20.04 (laptop warranty issue) on same hardware but using the latest Ubuntu 20.04 version and now when i activate fractional scalling it does not work anymore. The issue is that it basically zooms both the displays, i can explain best by attaching the printscreens and a picture with my phone on the same thing. You will see in the photo taken with the phone how it actually scales now and how the screenshots are taken... Let me know what logs/commands etc is needed to pinpoint this which i think is a regression. - The monitor on which i want to scale is 4k and is connecting through - DELL DA300 adapter through USB-C/Thunderbolt ( i have also tried using - Dell Dock WD19 but same issue). + The monitor on which i want to scale is 4k and is connecting through DELL DA300 adapter through USB-C/Thunderbolt ( i have also tried using Dell Dock WD19 but same issue). + --- + ProblemType: Bug + ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu15 + Architecture: amd64 + DisplayManager: gdm3 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 + GsettingsChanges: b'org.gnome.mutter' b'experimental-features' b"['scale-monitor-framebuffer']" + InstallationDate: Installed on 2019-12-18 (18 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 20.04 LTS "Focal Fossa" - Alpha amd64 (20191127) + Package: gnome-shell 3.34.1+git20191024-1ubuntu1 + PackageArchitecture: amd64 + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.3.0-24.26-generic 5.3.10 + RelatedPackageVersions: mutter-common 3.34.2-2ubuntu1 + Tags: focal + Uname: Linux 5.3.0-24-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: + + _MarkForUpload: True ** Attachment added: "Dependencies.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1857383/+attachment/5317887/+files/Dependencies.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-shell in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1857383 Title: Fractional scaling does not work anymore To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1857383/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
