[Bug 623153] Re: Auto-hiding gnome panel does no appear when application is on fullscreen
My netbook has very little screen space (1024x600), so I have to make use of every pixel. So I let my panel hide automatically (gives me ca. 24 pixel) and I use the fullscreen (F11) option e.g. of Firefox to get rid of the title bar. (Before you mention it: the nebook launcher currently seems to be broken in maverick, and it also is not flexible enough for me) I see your argument, I would distinguish between a "make-maximal-use-of- the-screen" kind of fullscreen (e.g. Firefox, Terminator) and a "presentational" fullscreen (OOo Impress presentation, video playback, games). The former should allow display of the panel, the latter should not. A simple solution would be to add a checkbox to the panel properties, whether to unhide the panel when the currently active application is in fullscreen mode. ** Changed in: gnome-panel (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => New -- Auto-hiding gnome panel does no appear when application is on fullscreen https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/623153 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 23293] Re: Nautilus windows should close on unmount
Sebastien made a valid point (Although I would prefer for myself that the windows just close automatically). How about this proposal: When I unmount a volume, the right area of a nautilus window (with the files) goes gray, with a message in the center like "Please wait while writing data to the device" or "The device is being prepared for removal" (for writable devices). After unmounting is complete, the message changes to "The device can now be safely removed" (For non- ejectable devices) or "The CD-ROM/DVD-ROM/whatever has been ejected" with a "Close window" button below. - The window would not disappear "magically" - The "Close window" button is bigger than the little [X] and thus is easier to hit, as in most cases this is what the user wants anyways. - The status of the unmount process is displayed where the user probably had the attention before: in the nautilus window. As unmounting a volume is in our case triggered manually from within nautilus, I do not consider this a "global" event to appear as a black notification bubble in the upper right corner. [Bug 58232] Re: edgy gnome-terminal does not start
Ok, I set up the virtual machine, and adapted the package status via dpkg --get-selections etc. In the VM, gnome-terminal works as expected, so my problem seems to be caused by some incompatible configuration element left over from dapper. I'll continue my investigations... [Bug 58232] Re: edgy gnome-terminal does not start
One more thing: AFAIK gnome-terminal uses a special Terminal widget, which is also used by e.g. by update-manager to show the work apt-get install does during upgrades. update-manager works flawless here. [Bug 58232] Re: edgy gnome-terminal does not start
Yes, it does not start neither from the menu nor from an xterm. It is version 2.16.0-0ubuntu1 (happened with 2.15.92..., too). It does not "crash" with an exception, it exits gracefully with a non- zero exit code, so there is no backtrace, and I cannot gdb it. I suspect that it is a font problem, as many other applications which use fonts in an "exotic" manner do not work correctly either, (see e.g. Bug #58192). If you know what the X error code numbers mean, please tell me, as this is not a fresh edgy install but a dist-upgrade from dapper, I won't rule out a misconfiguration yet. But still a more informative error message could be the result of fixing this bug. [Bug 59101] Re: gnome-cups-icon wakes up every second
Here's the strace. It seems to access - my .lpoptions - /etc/cups/lpoptions - it's locale every second, I wonder if this is necessary. [Bug 59101] gnome-cups-icon wakes up every second
Public bug reported: Hi! I noticed that gnome-cups-icon uses some cpu time (some, not all, please do not confuse this with #44196), while being idle. While being idle, IMHO it should only poll() or select() on some pipe to cupsd, but not access it's l10n files and my config every second. I'll attach an strace snippet. [Bug 58941] omit Album information for files w/o album information
Public bug reported: (edgy amd64) Severity: wishlist Currently, when a new song starts which does not have an "Album" entry, the notification bubble and the track information bar say: " by from Unknown" I'd say it would look nicer if Rhythmbox would just omit the "from Unknown" (or whatever it says with LANG=C) if there is no Album tag (empty string or only nonprintable chars) in the file. [Bug 58232] edgy gnome-terminal does not start
Public bug reported: SSIA. Started from xterm, I get this message: [EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ gnome-terminal The program 'gnome-terminal' received an X Window System error. This probably reflects a bug in the program. The error was 'BadValue (integer parameter out of range for operation)'. [Bug 49221] Re: Unable to start applications after hibernation
Hmm, after writing a script which continously attaches strace to gnome- session (and keeping it running in the background), the bug gets worse: - It happens much more often - After hitting CTRL-ALT-BS, gnome-session goes to D-State in ps -aux, I have to reboot to get an X session again... - strace (running in a screen) does no longer react to CTRL-C or SIGTERM. Thus, the trace does not look very useful, the last lines always seem to stall at fd 27 (which seems to be the socket under /tmp/.ICE-Unix/) -- Unable to start applications after hibernation https://launchpad.net/bugs/49221 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 49221] Re: Unable to start applications after hibernation
Hi! I have the same symptoms here: - Thinkpad T41p - Ubuntu 6.06 LTS - After resume from suspend-to-ram (or standby, don't know which S?-Level GNOME uses), gnome-terminal et al. do not start correctly - strace -p stalls at "read(10," - after removing everything in /tmp/.ICE-unix/ , starting another gnome-terminal works - but on hitting System->End Session... , the logout window still does not appear - Killing the session with CTRL-ALT-BS returns the computer to an useable state. Is there another way to help out? When I have some time left, I'll try to do a script strace()ing gnome-session over a suspend-resume cycle, but as this error does not appear every time, it will take some time... [Bug 42886] Re: ibm-acpi volume control unpredictable
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 39098 *** I did not do anything to trigger this behaviour. Out-of-the box (more- or-less, as my notebook was installed with the dapper development branch a long time ago, and is constantly updated), I already had the weird behaviour, that the Thinkpad buttons control both the thinkpad mixer and the soundcard mixer. Just recently, the fact that the soundcard mixer assignments swapped, I noticed this behaviour. Your proposal sounds reasonable, although I would wish for a checkbox in some [gnome|kde|xfce|whatever]-button-management-daemon-control-center to enable or disable the link between the thinkpad mixer and the soundcard mixer. Because (now it gets even more tricky) when one of my soundcard mixers (master and PCM) get raised above ca. 70-80%, the sound quality deteriorates rapidly (analog clipping, overdriving,...). But the thinkpad hardware mixer can be set to maximum w/o sound deterioration. So I'd like to control them independently. A friend of mine has an old Acer laptop with a real analog volume control, it's just a variable resistor w/o software control. I would wish for my hardware thinkpad volume buttons to be the same, with the extra function of a working on-screen-display, and an _optional_ software control. -- ibm-acpi volume control unpredictable https://launchpad.net/bugs/42886 -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
