[Bug 479935] [NEW] Mute button on HP 6730b not working correctly

2009-11-10 Thread Neville Makopo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-volume-manager

Laptop Model: HP 6730b
Ubuntu release: 9.10 Karmic Koala

Usually when I press the Mute button the volume is expected to be muted,
until I press the button again to unmute. Pressing the button to Mute
mode, the button color changes to orange and to unmute the button
changes to blue color.

However, when muted, after roughly about 5 minutes the button changes to
blue color(i.e. unmutes) and volume is on again. Meanwhile the volume
icon next to the system time does not change appearance.

Tested this several times on another same laptop model and could
reproduce this issue.

Neville

2007-09-03 Thread Neville Makopo
Thanks, I think you're right, I double checked that dbus was not running and my
loopback is working.
I have not been able to see the problem again.

[Bug 136320] [Gutsy]gnome settings daemon not started, default human theme changed

2007-08-31 Thread Neville Makopo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: libgnome-settings-daemon-dev

On Ubuntu Gutsy Tribe 5
During a restart after login the default Human theme had changed and the
first(1) message below was displayed.
Trying to change the theme back to Human by right-click - Change Desktop
Background, message (2) is displayed. What is weard is that Human is already
selected but my desktop still looks blue. I'm not sure whether this bug is
related anyhow to bug reports like #84876. Also most bugs of this nature seems
to be a result of an upgrade from feisty, but this just Gutsy.

(1)
There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.

Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work
correctly.

The last error message was:

Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application
did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply,
the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log
in.

(2)
Unable to start the settings manager 'gnome-settings-daemon'.
Without the GNOME settings manager running, some preferences may not take
effect. This could indicate a problem with Bonobo, or a non-GNOME (e.g. KDE)
settings manager may already be active and conflicting with the GNOME settings
manager.

[Bug 123495] OpenOffice.org files do not open over SSH Gnome VFS share

2007-07-02 Thread Neville Makopo
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

When OpenOffice.org files that are opened over a GNOME SSH VFS authentication
dialog keep prompting
for a password, and eventually fails with a message "General Internet Error has
Occured".

The problem might be that the gtk file dialog probably doesn't support
ssh.

Please confirm if the following workaround solves your problem:
$ lpstat -v
device for x: ...
$ touch /etc/cups/ppd/x.ppd
Don't forget to replace the x by your printer name!

I can confirm that this workaround does not solve the problem.
