[Bug 510059] Re: Gvfs keeps asking for password when trying to mount Samba share

2016-05-24 Thread Nikola
After some browsing it turns out this is not really a bug, but shall we
say a "security feature".

There is this pklocalauthority stuff (see man page) that basically makes
authorization things more complex, and to me, not logical. See
ralph.ronnquist comment at Debian user forums page
http://forums.debian.net/viewtopic.php?f=5=128280

Therefore, it turns out the nautilus/gvfs-mount needs your password, but
not for remote system. It wants your password for LOCAL system... that
worked for me, no matter how strange it is. I mean, the nautilus clearly
states it needs a username/password for remote system?

[Bug 510059] Re: Gvfs keeps asking for password when trying to mount Samba share

2016-05-24 Thread Nikola
Same here... I have started with 14.04LTS and I could reach a Win2008
machine. After several updates, somewhere in the first quarter of 2016,
I believe something things got strange. I purged samba and reinstalled
it - no change.

I have several personal shared folders, made from nautilus, and all Win
machines can reach them (as guest user).

However, I can not reach a Win2008 server or other Win7 - shared folder.
Both gvfs-mount and nautilus dialogue keep asking for password/domain
again and again.

Setting aforementioned combinations such as:
client lanman auth = no
client ntlmv2 auth = no
client ntlm = yes
.. does not help.

So I have browsed the old /etc/samba/ and have found several older smb.conf
files:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9542 Mar 1 2015 smb.conf.old.gadmin-samba-0.3.2
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 9542 Jun 11 2015 smb.conf.ucf-dist
Basically, these two old were from time when everything was ok, and guess what,
after I have copied them in smb.conf, nautilus and gvfs-mount still were not
working (and keep asking for password/domain).

There you have it. It is not a thing in smb.conf, but (my best guess)
the bug is probably in gvfs-mont.

Open nautilus and press some letter keys. The letters will appear in the
lower right corner(just like in the screenshot).Until you delete those
letters you cant close the window. It's not a serious problem but it can be
annoying.

[Bug 422511] Re: problem with new scrollbar in Human theme - GtkRange::trough-border set to 2

2009-12-16 Thread Nikola Kovacs
The way gtk is handling trough-border is technically correct, but it is
incorrect from a usability viewpoint. One way to fix it is to change gtk's
handling of trough-border. I did that, but Firefox needs to be fixed separately
because it does its own UI drawing and handling.
The other way is to fake the effect, and set the gtk trough-border to 0. Some
themes do this by using the pixbuf engine for the scrollbars (e.g. Dust). I
patched murrine to simply draw a thinner scrollbar handle (configurable using a
murrine engine parameter) to get the same effect. All the while gtk thinks the
trough-border is set to 0, so it avoids all the problems (and it doesn't affect
sliders). This fix is a bit of a hack, but I've been using it and didn't have
any problems.
This is the murrine patch:
http://launchpadlibrarian.net/34046350/murrine_trough_border_proper.patch.
I've also attached the changes to gtkrc that are needed to get the same effect
with the murrine patch.
IMHO the murrine patch is better than reworking the way gtk handles trough
border.

Sorry my wording might've been confusing.
My patch is not in the ubuntu murrine package, so it's not in ia32libs either.

5. Double click the file again in nautilus. The sound will be delayed and out
of sync by the amount of time you allowed the file to play the first time.

It would seem this is related to the Start playing from last position
option, but it also happens with the option disabled and with two
different files.

The same happens if I use the playlist with two files and click next
chapter.

Click manage groups and add a group called nopasswdlogin. After that it won't
be greyed out.
I had to look through the source code to figure this out. The nopasswdlogin
group should be created by default IMHO.

[Bug 422511] Re: problem with new scrollbar in Human theme - GtkRange::trough-border set to 2

2009-09-30 Thread Nikola Kovacs
I think this is a nicer solution than my previous patch. I removed
trough-border from calculations for the slider rectangle (which is used
for mouse detection) and instead add/subtract the correct values when
drawing the slider.

For Firefox, I wanted to do something similar, modifying
moz_gtk_scrollbar_thumb_paint() to draw a smaller slider, but otherwise
using 0 for trough_border. I'm having problems implementing the latter,
because even if I explicitly set metrics-trough_border to 0 in
moz_gtk_get_scrollbar_metrics(), I can't see any difference.

[Bug 422511] Re: problem with new scrollbar in Human theme - GtkRange::trough-border set to 2

2009-09-30 Thread Nikola Kovacs
I decided to try out my idea from comment #3. This is patch uses a hardcoded
value of 2, but that can easily be made configurable, as a murrine specific
option. With GtkRange::slider-width set to 18, it gives the same effect for the
scrollbars, with none of the bugs.
Yes, it's a hack, but it works, and it's better than using a pixmap engine just
for the scrollbars (like Dust does).

[Bug 437691] [NEW] Shutdown button and Fitts' law

2009-09-27 Thread Nikola Kovacs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

The shutdown button on Karmic's gdm is located in the lower right
corner. It is close to the screen corner, which is much easier to reach
with the mouse, but cannot be clicked by moving the mouse to the corner
because of some padding. Since the button is safe (it only opens a
menu), there's no reason not to allow this.

Steps to reproduce:
On the login screen, move your mouse down and right. It should stop at the
corner pixel. Click the mouse. Nothing happens.
Expected result: The shutdown menu opens.

Fixing this is trivial:
22_shutdown_menu.patch adds a 6px padding around the button in this line:

gtk_box_pack_end (GTK_BOX (panel-priv-hbox), GTK_WIDGET
(shutdown_menu), FALSE, FALSE, 6);

This should be changed to 0.

The HumanLogin theme should have no menu shadow:

GtkMenuBar::shadow-type = GTK_SHADOW_NONE

[Bug 437733] [NEW] set has-frame of option comboboxes to false

2009-09-27 Thread Nikola Kovacs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdm

The option comboboxes on the bottom panel have a frame that prevents
their activation when clicked on the screen edge. It's easy to overshoot
with the mouse and reach the screen edge (Fitts' law), and clicking
there won't open the menu. In contrast, the button with the downward
arrow works when clicked on the screen edge.

Setting the has-frame property of the combobox fixes this. It does
change the appearance though.

I'll attach a simple patch that does this and a screenshot.

[Bug 83034] Re: panel-autohide leaves a one-pixel line on the desktop

2009-08-13 Thread Nikola Kovacs
I've hacked the panel to allow auto_hide_size to be 0 when calculating struts,
i.e. how much space will be taken away from other applications. Although the 1
pixel line will still be there, maximized applications will be able to cover
the whole screen, so e.g. the close button will be in the upper right corner
(Fitts' law).
This solution is good enough for me, as the 1 pixel line doesn't really bother
me, but moving the close button away from the corner does.

[Bug 412975] [NEW] option to hide handles on non-expanded panel

2009-08-13 Thread Nikola Kovacs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

Gnome-panel places two handles on both sides of the panel when the panel
is not expanded. I'd like to have the option to remove them, because I'd
like to place a non-expanded panel with a menu in a corner, but the
handle prevents me from quickly accessing the menu by moving my mouse
into the corner.

I've written a patch to introduce a boolean gconf value, expand_handles,
which if set to false hides these (by setting their size to 0 instead of
the hardcoded 10). I'm new to gnome hacking, and this is probably not
the right way to do it, but it works for me.

[Bug 331292] Re: gdmgreeter crashed with SIGSEGV in __libc_start_main()

2009-02-19 Thread Nikola Yanev
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 331264 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/331264

the same here, but i think it is as mark stover says, because these
lib's and not nvidias', but also realize, that putting gdm on autologin
with my username it work perfect, but i know it can be security
vulnerability, but we can use it some days until it be fixed ;)

[Bug 54208] Re: autohide doesn't unhide if you are too quick

2008-04-28 Thread Nikola Borisof
I can reproduce it. I believe that the gnome-panel somehow doesn't
trigger the unhide when the mouse reaches the end of the screen too
fast. I got this behaviour after an update to 8.04. The same pannel was
working fine in 7.10.

[Bug 224025] [NEW] gnome-panel autohide doesn't work

2008-04-28 Thread Nikola Borisof
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

1. The bug showed after i updated to 8.04 from 7.10.

2.
gnome-panel:
  Installed: 1:2.22.1.2-0ubuntu3
  Candidate: 1:2.22.1.2-0ubuntu3
  Version table:
 *** 1:2.22.1.2-0ubuntu3 0
500 http://mirrors.cs.wmich.edu hardy/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3.
What happens is the following: I have a panel on the right side of the screen
with some common used apps.
1) The pannel is set to autohide.
2) When you move the mouse fast towards the end of the screen and stay there
the panel doesn't unhide. (And it should)
3) When you move the mouse slowly towards the panel it works properly.

I may be able to try to fix it myself with some guidance on where to
start
