Confirmed that this bug is fixed in the package available in oneiric-
proposed. The package now pulls 'gir1.2-peas-1.0' as dependency. There
is no error observed when launching rhythmbox from terminal.

[Bug 653433] [NEW] time-admin asks to install ntp even when ntpdate is installed

2010-10-01 Thread Onkar Shinde
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

According to description of ntpdate, it is a client to sync time with
time servers. This package is installed by default. But when I try to
use 'Time and Date' administration UI to set the configuration to 'Keep
synchronized with internet servers' first time, it asks me to install
'ntp' package. ntp package contains the network time daemon and is
unnecessary for most desktop install.

And even though the ntpdate is installed by default, the configuration
is set to manual instead of auto sync.

[Bug 562368] [NEW] Unnecessary build dependency libgnomevfs2-dev

2010-04-13 Thread Onkar Shinde
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Evolution has been ported to GVFS APIs since version 2.23.1 as per following
note in NEWS file.
*
#526739: Ported gnome-vfs to gvfs (Milan Crha)
*

I also checked that configure script is not checking for gnomevfs development
package nor any source file referring to gnomevfs headers. And just to make
sure that my analysis was correct I did a test build in my PPA by removing
libgnomevfs2-dev build dependency.
Test build - https://edge.launchpad.net/~onkarshinde/+archive/ppa/+build/1690050

Please drop this build dependency as evolution seems to be one of the
very few packages pulling gnomevfs in default install.

[Bug 438065] Re: Karmic: DVDs cannot be mounted in GNOME

I have similar problem. I am assuming it is same as this bug because the
messages in dmesg led me here (via Google Search). I initially thought
the drive was faulty but it is not the case.

What works:
Audio CD, Video CD, non-CSS-encrypted DVD, all mount fine.

What doesn't work:
CSS-encrypted DVD, irrespective of region code.

Workaround tried:
I tried removing (lib)brasero*. That doesn't help.
I tried installing mainline kernel from the PPA for date 2 October. Even that
doesn't help.

Please let me know if there is any more information needed.

If you need to propose this fix as stable release update please refer to

You need to attach the debdiff between current version and the version
you have prepared. Also make sure that your version has proper changelog
entry i.e. release name hardy-proposed and appropriate version string.

[Bug 361151] [NEW] Please remove gstreamer0.10-gnomevfs dependency

This bug was not about broken DVD navigation with totem-gstreamer. It

For DVD navigation there has been some work done upstream which needs to

Ken,

My current ekiga setup (with packages from repositories) is broken. I am
not getting any sound at all. SO it will be a while before I figure out
the problem and then move to testing your packages. :-(

By the way, while people test packages from your PPA, can you please
update the package in repositories to 3.0.2 just so that users get the
benefit of setting migration from 2.x in case 3.2 is not going to make
into jaunty.

[Bug 330684] Re: Merge libdvdread 4.x from Debian unstable

2009-03-19 Thread Onkar Shinde
@bill,

The version from mplayer is not a fork. They have taken over the development of
libdvdread.
And a quick grep for DVDREAD_VERSION in the current source reveals that this
string is defined but not used anywhere. So I don't think it is significant.

As far as the functionality goes, the upstream changelog claims that
there have been many bug fixes. So I don't see a reason not to use it.
Do you have any particular reason against the transition?

  1. There is a ABI bump in the Debian version. Hence all the rebuilds will

@nullack,

I don't think CVS builds of complete plugin package are acceptable at
this stage. I will try to backport the resindvd fix also tonight and
provide a package in my PPA.

Since the CD images for beta are already built the base plugins change
can not be adopted immediately. It will go in only after beta is out.

[Bug 137527] Re: Totem should notify users about installing libdvdread3 and libdvdcss2 to read encrypted DVD

2008-08-12 Thread Onkar Shinde
libdvdcss2 circumvents the CSS encryption found on DVDs. Circumvention
is not legal in many countries even if it is for use of legally owned
DVDs. A distribution can not make a choice for user when it is legal
matter.

This is not same as flashplugin-nonfree. There is no question of
legality in case of flash plugin provided by Adobe.

Apart from that, libdvdread3 is already a dependency of gstreamer0.10
-plugins-bad. Also libdvdnav4 will be a dependency of gstreamer0.10
-plugins-bad, by the time intrepid is released. So Gstreamer, which is
default backend for totem, will have full support for playing non-
encrypted (region-free) DVDs provided all plugins were installed.

No, I don't see it same way in nautilus. I also observed this problem on my

The thing that both machine have in common is they were upgraded form gutsy to

My office machine doesn't show this problem which is fresh install of
hardy. And if I remember correctly it is also case with my ibook which

[Bug 199116] Re: Can not send 'Ctrl+Alt+Del'

2008-05-03 Thread Onkar Shinde
Steve,

I discussed this issue already with seb128 on #ubuntu-devel and he said it was
ok to get this fix in SRU before it is done in intrepid. Following are the two
major reasons.
1. The bug is a regression from last Ubuntu version. xvncviewer had an option
to send Ctrl + Alt + Del to server and this is necessary for Windows login when
connected over VNC.
2. The fix will not be available in Vinagre release in GNOME 2.22.2. Instead it
will be available in 2.23.x. So it will not get in Hardy with the sync/merge of
GNOME 2.22.2.

Apart from this, should we really expect anyone to test Intrepid so
early in the development cycle, assuming that vinagre will be updated
with this fix within a month?

Please let me know what you think.

[Bug 222043] Re: Copy files from bluetooth device: Error in stream protocol: end of stream"

2008-04-26 Thread Onkar Shinde
The browsing of bluetooth devices is handled by gvfs, hence changing
package.

Can you also tell us if you see any message on device when you are
trying to copy file. Some devices show message asking whether you want
to allow access.

** Changed in: gvfs (Ubuntu)
Sourcepackagename: bluez-gnome => gvfs

Check section 'Sending SMS Messages' at
http://wiki.diamondcard.us/podwiki?page=EkigaPhone

[Bug 199014] Re: python-xml removal: please drop/replace (build) dependencies

2008-03-31 Thread Onkar Shinde
pyslide doesn't work when python-xml is not present. I tried one of the
examples with command 'pyslide /usr/share/doc/pyslide/examples/full.xml'
It gives following error.
