I have similar problem. I am assuming it is same as this bug because the messages in dmesg led me here (via Google Search). I initially thought the drive was faulty but it is not the case. What works: Audio CD, Video CD, non-CSS-encrypted DVD, all mount fine. What doesn't work: CSS-encrypted DVD, irrespective of region code. Workaround tried: I tried removing (lib)brasero*. That doesn't help. I tried installing mainline kernel from the PPA for date 2 October. Even that doesn't help. And a quick grep for DVDREAD_VERSION in the current source reveals that this string is defined but not used anywhere. So I don't think it is significant. As far as the functionality goes, the upstream changelog claims that there have been many bug fixes. So I don't see a reason not to use it. A note for all. The packages in my PPA are not relevant anymore as same changes are available in the package in repository. Please do whatever testing you are doing with official packages. I was wrong, totem now only used resindvd instead of dvdreadsrc. There doesn't seem to be any actual seek support from totem's menus. @nullack, The error "an error occured failed to connect to stream" is not something related to DVD playing in my opinion. I am seeing similar error on my machine with any media file when the sound output being used is pulseaudio. After I see error totem just hangs on all subsequent media plying attempts. For now I am using ALSA as output plugin. You can set it from System -> Preferences -> Sound. No, I don't see it same way in nautilus. I also observed this problem on my dad's laptop on last weekend. My add's laptop also has only one drive which is DVD reader + CD Writer. Steve, I discussed this issue already with seb128 on #ubuntu-devel and he said it was ok to get this fix in SRU before it is done in intrepid. Following are the two major reasons. 1. The bug is a regression from last Ubuntu version. xvncviewer had an option to send Ctrl + Alt + Del to server and this is necessary for Windows login when connected over VNC. 2. The fix will not be available in Vinagre release in GNOME 2.22.2. Instead it will be available in 2.23.x. So it will not get in Hardy with the sync/merge of GNOME 2.22.2. Apart from this, should we really expect anyone to test Intrepid so early in the development cycle, assuming that vinagre will be updated with this fix within a month? Public bug reported: Binary package hint: ekiga diamondcard.us, the default pc-to-phone account provider in ekiga, started sms service recently. The service is really helpful and works well. For using this service along with the voip, one needs to change the server from current eugw.ast.diamondcard.us to sip.diamondcard.us. pyslide doesn't work when python-xml is not present. I tried one of the examples with command 'pyslide /usr/share/doc/pyslide/examples/full.xml' It gives following error.
