[Bug 344428] Re: Screen freezes after gdm login

2009-11-07 Thread Rackstar
Hi Chris,

I was wrong, It wasn't my ram, it went well for a day, but then the
freezes came back again.

I tried to start an xterm session, but even that leads to an empty
screen (xsplash wallpaper) + cursor. It is possible to notice that it
won't be possible to log in, as you can't change terminals anymore when
by pressing ctrl-alt-fx, when you get to gdm.

Sometimes the nm-applet freezes also, but I can still keep on working:
- nm-applet showed icon of no connection, when I click it, nothing happens
- not able to switch terminals with ctrl-alt-f...
- able to use gnome, but with hick-ups. (When I open Terminal, it opens, but it
doesn't respond)
- Shutdown doesn't freezes

I tried running recovery mode, logging in through terminal, and then
executing 'startx' (so skipping the graphical log in), I can see my
desktop, files on my desktop, wallpaper, panels, left icons and menu's,
but not the tray icons in the upper right corner and no fusa. So that
points towards the network-manager again maybe?

I will add 4 files:
- my var/messages file + dmesg file of multiple failed boots:

http://ninetynine.be/rfiles/messages.txt
http://ninetynine.be/rfiles/dmesg.txt

- my var/messages file of the network-manager-applet-freeze I was
talking about as attachment

I also am experiencing this bug (oops):
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/451815, but I don't
know if this has something to do with it.

Thank u!

[Bug 344428] Re: Screen freezes after gdm login

2009-11-02 Thread Rackstar
Hi,

I might be having the same problems, I asked help on ubuntuforums, but
no luck (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1306926).

I will describe my problem the best I can, if somebody could help
pointing me towards the right direction, so I can file a decent bug
report that has chance of being fixed.

Sometimes (70% of the time) when I boot, everything is quite normal when
I reach the login screen. But I can notice that I can't switch terminals
anymore by pressing ctrl-alt-fX.

I still can enter my password, the animations are all ok. The login box
disappears, but then the Ubuntu logo + throbber don't appear. I can
still move my mouse. The only button responding is the power button, but
shutting down also fails. I can do ctrl-alt-prt scr-reisub. Even if I
try to shutdown before I log in, it fails.

Other thing I sometimes experience is, when I click on edit
connections on the network-applet, the dialog box shows up, but I can't
do anything in it. I don't know if it has something to do with it, but
then I can't shutdown properly also. And almost guaranteed to have a
problem while booting.

I'm eager to help to fix this problem, which logs should I provide?

[Bug 344428] Re: Screen freezes after gdm login

2009-11-02 Thread Rackstar
Thanks Chris for your fast response. I think I fixed my problem, thanks
to P4man on ubuntuforums, in this thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8224013

It involved a failing memory-socket, so my previous comment can probably
be ignored. Althought if they have the same problem, try running a
memtest.

[Bug 366676] [NEW] power manager shows up twice after suspend and resume

2009-04-25 Thread Rackstar
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-power-manager

I installed Ubuntu 9.04 on my Acer Aspire 9423.

When I go do suspend, and I resume later. The gnome-power-manager applet
shows up twice. Once using my personalized iconset (hydroxygen), and
once with the default icon.

apt-cachepolicy gnome-power-manager said this:
  Geïnstalleerd: 2.24.2-2ubuntu8
  Kandidaat: 2.24.2-2ubuntu8
  Versietabel:
 *** 2.24.2-2ubuntu8 0
500 http://archive.ubuntu.com jaunty/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

One thing that noticed me is that the expected time left using the
battery depends on what applet I check. But only slight difference, but
just to state that they are independent.

Hope this is enough information.

Thanks
