System hangs may well be caused by this bug, because these log lines
tend to fill up the file system.

[Bug 1499726] [NEW] Unable to disable SMART for Corsair Neutron GTX SSD

2015-09-25 Thread Rudolf Leitgeb
Public bug reported:

During every boot sequence, SMART commands are sent to this SSD, causing
a minute long hang, until a kernel error message appears, telling me
that some SMART command failed. Since SSDs are not the target audience
for SMART checks anyway, I wanted to disable smart checks through gnome-
disk tool.

When I tried to disable SMART for this disk, I got the following error message:
===
Error sending ATA command SMART, sub-command DISABLE OPERATIONS: ATA command
failed: error=0x04 count=0x00 status=0x51 (g-io-error-quark,0)

After closing the error dialog, SMART switch in the window is turned
back on :( All I wanted was disable SMART checks during boot time for
this disk

boot time is as follows:

[Bug 1323042] [NEW] evolution connects to wrong port for encrypted imap

2014-05-25 Thread Rudolf Leitgeb
Public bug reported:

I have two online email accounts, one POP account on gmx.net, and an
IMAP account on yahoo.com. When evolution starts up, it connects to both
servers to retrieve email. To my surprise I discovered, that after
connecting to gmx POP server on (correct and configured) port 995,
evolution also connects to yahoo IMAP server on port 995, instead of
port 993 as specified by the config file. All subsequent IMAP queries
are done through the correct port, 993.

It appears to me that always the first configured port is used in the
initial query. This obviously leads to confusion by the IMAP server.

2011-10-14 Thread Michal Rudolf
Public bug reported:

$GEDIT_SELECTED_TEXT variable used in snippets does not work correctly for
non-ascii characters.
For example, the standard LaTeX macro:

works correctly for 'alpha' text, giving:
{\bf alpha}

but for any utf-8 sequence, like 'głąb' deletes the selected text, producing
{\bf }

[Bug 705161] [NEW] Focus is mouse-dependent when using dual monitors despite apps/metacity/general/focus_mode = click

2011-01-19 Thread Rudolf Cardinal
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: metacity

BACKGROUND
- Hardware: Asus P5N32-SLI motherboard with two NVidia GeForce 7600GS video
cards (and a monitor attached to each of them) and plain USB mouse
- Software: Ubuntu 10.10; nouveau (libdrm-nouveau1 version 2.4.21-1ubuntu2.1,
xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:0.0.16+git20100805); GNOME 2.32.0; metacity
1:2.30.2-0ubuntu1.
- Metacity setting: apps/metacity/general/focus_mode = click (= System /
Preferences / Windows / UNTICK Select windows when the mouse moves over them)
- other info as per attached files

PROBLEM
- The dual monitors are configured as two X screens, out of necessity rather
than desire (same configuration as described in my post to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg-server/+bug/316514 ).
- Moving a mouse within a window doesn't move the focus (as you'd expect; the
Metacity setting requires that you click on a window to activate it/give it the
focus). This is good.
- Moving the mouse from one screen to the other moves the focus (from the
currently active window in one screen to the currently active window in the
other. This is the problem.
- This causes trouble (e.g. using the keyboard to delete a bunch of stuff from
one application; accidentally knock the mouse a small distance sideways into
the other screen; delete stuff from the wrong application by mistake).
- My feeling is that the mouse should be allowed to wander freely without the
focus changing, until you click something.
- Am not wholly sure whether this is an xorg or a metacity bug (or a bug in the
interface between the two).

If anybody knows a fix for this I'd love to hear it!
Many thanks,
Rudolf.

2010-06-11 Thread Rudolf
I can confirm this problem:
1. it occured with 9.10 and after upgrade to 10.04 it's still there
2. with visual effects normal, the problem is gone and with visual effects
none it happens again.

Using 10.04 32bit (german), fglrx, gnome-terminal and any other program (gedit,
firefox).
The Gtk-CRITICAL message mentioned above appears after starting
gnome-terminal with any visual effects.

But here's an interesting fact:

- set visual effects normal
- start gnome-terminal, maximize the window (double-click on titlebar)
- start gedit, maximize the window (if not maximized already)
- set visual effects to none
- switch to gnome-terminal
- switch to gedit
- click window-close icon of gedit window

result: gedit window closed, gnome-terminal still there (tested 4 times,
worked 4 times)

Seems as if the window keeps something from visual effects settings!?

[Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share

2008-06-14 Thread Rudolf Reuter
Hello,
my Ubuntu 0804 is actual updated.
In /etc/samba/smb.conf I have security = user.
I try from Ubuntu to work with a windows share.
When I try in Nautilus smb://host-name I get no windows shares to see.
When I try in Nautilus smb://192.168.17.xx I can see my windows shares.
Then, if I click on a share name, I get a login box with my user name. When I
key in the password and hit enter, I can access all files.
The host-name was setup in /etc/hosts and works with ping host-name.
I hope this will help in debugging.
Greeting, Rudi

[Bug 209520] Re: SMB error: Unable to mount location when server configured with security=share

2008-06-14 Thread Rudolf Reuter
Hello Tien,
Sorry to confuse you. Client: Ubuntu 0804 , Server: Windows XP
On both systems the same user and password was set (on Ubuntu also smbpasswd).
I just tried to give as much useful information as possible.
Greetings, Rudi
