[Bug 272806] Re: file:// not registered with nautilus

2008-10-09 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica

  Binary package hint: desktop-file-utils

I can click on Computer and drive shortcuts in Nautilus but any
directory shortcut doesn't work. I get this error when clicking the
  Desktop shortcut:

  Could not open location 'file:///home/user/Desktop'
No application is registered as handling this file.

Now after googling I try this:

  sudo update-desktop-database
  sudo update-mime-database
  killall nautilus

  This does not help.

sudo update-desktop-database -v shows the following:

[Bug 272806] Re: file:// not registered with nautilus

2008-10-09 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica
Hi, i'm converting this back to a bug because i was hit several weeks
ago just after upgrade from HARDY to iNTREPID ALPHA.

I've check bug #59392 but i'm not having segfaults.

with sudo update-desktop-database -v i've got a lot of lacks MimeType
key

i'm attaching the output from the previous command.

reinstalling ubuntu-desktop didn't helped.

if i run nautilus file:///home/andres/Desktop from a terminal it would
work OK.

The problem persists after today 91008 upgrades.

2008-10-19 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica
i'm marking this as confirmed thks to Stefan.

I'm not pretty sure if the problem lies in there, but you can try
reinstalling desktop-file-utils from hardy, the package can be grabbed
from this url:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy-updates/i386/desktop-file-
utils/download

After that try

sudo update-desktop-database
sudo update-mime-database

and restart your session.

and let us know if that worked

Also this app is the recording app by default, in fact i use it in
almost every meeting i've got. and i supose that a lot of people out
there would record or test their mics at some point.}

2008-10-19 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica
Also, it seems the workaround could be a simple one.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pulseaudio/+bug/277532/comments/2

no need to kill PA, just change in audio preferences the sound capture
item to Pulse Audio Server, and it would work OK.

Maybe because this is an upgrade from several previous version the
setting was left as before??

[Bug 282224] Re: Sound recorder does not record stream - hardy

2008-10-19 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica
as far as i know gnome-sound-recorder is not capable for such a thing.

streamripper is what you're looking for. You can install it from
add/remove programs. (try streamtuner or kstreamripper for a frontend)

http://streamripper.sourceforge.net/

hope this helps.

[Bug 272806] Re: file:// not registered with nautilus

2008-10-27 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica
It seems the problem lies in this file:

cat .local/share/applications/mimeapps.list

[Added Associations]
application/x-bittorrent=transmission.desktop;gnome-btdownload.desktop;
audio/mpeg=gedit-usercustom-3.desktop;
application/x-executable=wine.desktop;
application/x-extension-cfg=gedit-usercustom-3.desktop;

[Removed Associations]
inode/directory=userapp-nautilus-1IAMJU.desktop;

don't know why the inode/directory association is disabled. This was done by
the upgrading process somehow.

This can be solved by following the suggestion on this thread

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=944225&highlight=nautilus

Also this seems to be related to bug #260492

[Bug 290506] Re: cheese doesn't show v4l2 video output and disables output on gstreamer-based apps ran afterwards

2008-11-01 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica
Hi all, i've just marked some dups from this bug with interest comments
in there.

Also as is stated in bug #287888 and bug #288458 i'm adding linux kernel
with uvcvideo module possibly related. (however i've tested with hardy
kernel and the issue is presented there too..)

but as stated in bug #281771 this is more probably a gstreamer issue.

2008-11-02 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 290506 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290506

OK, so we've got two separate bugs but maybe related each other.

It seems we've got a bug affecting cheese/gstreamer (bug #290506) and
another one affecting uvcvideo (bug #287888).

Those whom can solve the error recompiling the uvcvideo driver as
described in #287888 please follow that one, the others that can solve
the problem changing resolution would have the #290506

Thanks!

I'm marking this one as dupe of bug #290506

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 290506 ***

Ok, to me it seems that the problem lies in gstreamer/cheese, because
you can get video with VLC but no with cheese, this would be the same
bug as bug #290506 but with a different backend driver, maybe this is
why changing resolutions didn't worked for you.

I'll mark this as a dupe from that bug and wait for further notices
there.

2008-11-02 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica
Oh, yes! i believe the both of them are related,

but it seems that there's different behaviours depending on the backend
driver (uvcvideo, pwc and gspca). Also it seems that a lot of the
troubles are related to gstreamer and v4l, and in the case of cheese it
seems to be caused by cheese asking directly to hal instead of gong
through gstreamer...

Hi, thanks for your Bug Report, it seems to be a feature enhancement,
but in order to complete the report can you reproduce the problem and
debug it using this procedure at

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingRemovableDevices

With this we would have enough information for a developer to take it.

Also it could be a good idea to write or look for a spec or blueprint
that proposes this feature.

[Bug 85291] Re: filesystems are never fsck'ed if they live on removable USB disks

2008-02-05 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica
i wonder if the right spec to enhances with this wishlist is this one

https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/Specs/PartitionManagement

I suggest to check it, find another one more suitable for the purpose or
even - if it's possible - to create one.

** Summary changed:

- ext 3 filesystems are never fsck'ed if they live on removable USB disks
+ filesystems are never fsck'ed if they live on removable USB disks

** Description changed:

I don't know which package to assign this bug to, and sorry if it has
  been reported before - I couldn't find a report.

ext2/3 filesystems are regulary fsck'ed after a given number of boots if
those filesystems are part of the fixed disks. However removable USB
disks (I can only check for those, but I guess firewire at al. also
share this) are never fsck'ed automatically. This might me dangerous
because they are much more likely to be removed incorrectly (w/o
unmounting) and are attached/reattached frequently. I just realized that
my external disk was mounted hundreds of times without ever being
checked (and am sure that despite trying to be responsible, I sometimes
  yanked the cable w/o unmounting)
+
+ NOTE:
+ i've removed the ext3 case because this also applies to some other filesystem
types as described in duplicated bugs.

Public bug reported:

Affects: ubuntu-artwork (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Binary package hint: ubuntu-artwork

the firefox path is incorrectly settled

it should point to:

file:///usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/locales-ubuntu/index-es_AR.html

instead of

file:///usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/locales/index-es_AR.html

i only can confirm this using es locale.

but is important for a new user cause it gives the impression of a not

Hi, i've got this issue in some different machines.

on the first machine: 1- ubuntu 5.04 upgraded to 5.10 then upgraded to
kubuntu (here was the first problem with firefox homepage) i tracked down and
it was a bad link...

on the second machine, started as ubuntu 5.10 upgraded to kubuntu same problem
as before

on my laptop, started as 5.04 then kubuntu 5.10 (the problem appeared), then
dapper 6.06 and the problem appeared again, i tracked down and post the bug.

sorry i didn't report it before.

in all the cases it has something to do with a bad symlink or bad path.

2006-05-09 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica

i'm afraid i cannot provide it a buggy one, because i've corrected manually
the problems, anyway here it comes

this is from a kubuntu 5.10 at the office

update-alternatives --display firefox-homepage
firefox-homepage - status is auto.
 link currently points
to /usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/khelpcenter/kubuntu/about-kubuntu/C/index.html
/usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/firefox-index.html - priority 40
Current `best' version is /usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/firefox-index.html.

and tonight i will provide the output from my home.

the problem was a bad link pointing to firefox file, the destination didn't
exist so i made again the link and it worked partially (didn't showed up the
image)

sadly i don't recall exactly what i did , but the pc at home can give us a
hint so tonight i would post the output for the command you asked for.

i`ve just upgraded my dapper install at home, and the bad link appeared again

update-alternatives --display firefox-homepage
firefox-homepage - status is manual.
 link currently points to
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/kubuntu/about-kubuntu/index.html
/usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/firefox-index.html - priority 40

[Bug 58165] security policy error with hald after latest updates

2006-08-29 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: hal-device-manager

after latest updates if i insert an usb pen i've got this message:

A security policy in place prevents this sender from sending this
message to this recipient, see message bus configuration file (rejected
message had interface "org.freedesktop.Hal.Device.Volume" member "Mount"
error name "(unset)" destination "org.freedesktop.Hal")

i've found this debian bug report:

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=377689

i haven't applied yet the config modification they talked about.

i'll report back as soon as i test it (just time to report the bug ;))

2007-10-28 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately we can't fix it, because your description
does not yet have enough information.

Please include the following additional information, if you have not already
done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the
Ubuntu Kernel Team:
1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response.
It should be one, long line of text which includes the exact kernel version
you're running, as well as the CPU architecture.
2. Please run the command "dmesg > dmesg.log" after a fresh boot and attach the
resulting file "dmesg.log" to this bug report.
3. Please run the command "sudo lspci -vvnn > lspci-vvnn.log" and attach the
resulting file "lspci-vvnn.log" to this bug report.

For your reference, the full description of procedures for kernel-
related bug reports is available at [WWW]
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeamBugPolicies. Thanks in advance!

[Bug 59717] Re: Better font management needed for Ubuntu

2007-11-03 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica
This article seems to apply here

http://architectfantasy.com/?p=25

As I briefly touched in the previous article, font installation in GNOME is
such an example. Installing fonts in GNOME is as simple as navigating to
System->Preferences->Appearance->”Fonts” Tab->”Details” Button->”Go to Fonts
Folder” Button, and finally drag and drop your new fonts in this directory.
There is another shortcut to get here however. You can open a nautilus window,
press Ctrl + L and in the address text box type: “fonts:///”.

[Bug 43483] bad path to firefox startpage

2006-05-07 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica
Public bug reported:

Affects: ubuntu-artwork (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

Description:
Binary package hint: ubuntu-artwork

the firefox path is incorrectly settled

it should point to:

file:///usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/locales-ubuntu/index-es_AR.html

instead of

file:///usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/locales/index-es_AR.html

i only can confirm this using es locale.

but is important for a new user cause it gives the impression of a not
working product.

[Bug 43483] Re: [Bug 43483] Re: bad path to firefox startpage

2006-05-09 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica

Hi, i've got this issue in some different machines.

on the first machine: 1- ubuntu 5.04 upgraded to 5.10 then upgraded to
kubuntu (here was the first problem with firefox homepage) i tracked down and
it was a bad link...

on the second machine, started as ubuntu 5.10 upgraded to kubuntu same problem
as before

on my laptop, started as 5.04 then kubuntu 5.10 (the problem appeared), then
dapper 6.06 and the problem appeared again, i tracked down and post the bug.

sorry i didn't report it before.

in all the cases it has something to do with a bad symlink or bad path.

the problems, anyway here it comes

this is from a kubuntu 5.10 at the office

update-alternatives --display firefox-homepage
firefox-homepage - status is auto.
 link currently points
to /usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/khelpcenter/kubuntu/about-kubuntu/C/index.html
/usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/firefox-index.html - priority 40
Current `best' version is /usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/firefox-index.html.

and tonight i will provide the output from my home.

exist so i made again the link and it worked partially (didn't showed up the
image)

sadly i don't recall exactly what i did , but the pc at home can give us a
hint so tonight i would post the output for the command you asked for.

[Bug 43483] Re: bad path to firefox startpage

2006-05-10 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica
i`ve just upgraded my dapper install at home, and the bad link appeared again

update-alternatives --display firefox-homepage
firefox-homepage - status is manual.
 link currently points to
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/kubuntu/about-kubuntu/index.html
/usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/firefox-index.html - priority 40
 slave firefox-homepage-locales: /usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/locales-ubuntu
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/kubuntu/about-kubuntu/index.html - priority 40
 slave firefox-homepage-locales:
/usr/share/doc/kde/HTML/en/kubuntu/about-kubuntu/locales
Current `best' version is /usr/share/ubuntu-artwork/home/firefox-index.html.

after executing as root

update-alternatives --auto firefox-homepage

it worked automagically.

2008-10-19 Thread SEAQ - Andres Mujica
i'm marking this as confirmed thks to Stefan.

I'm not pretty sure if the problem lies in there, but you can try
reinstalling desktop-file-utils from hardy, the package can be grabbed
from this url:

http://packages.ubuntu.com/hardy-updates/i386/desktop-file-
utils/download

After that try

sudo update-desktop-database
sudo update-mime-database

and restart your session.

and let us know if that worked

thks
