[Bug 351130] Re: [jaunty] doesn't offer to install codecs when inserting non encrypted DVD
I tried the steps in comment #2 again on a freshly installed Ubuntu 10.10 with the latest updates. I get almost the same result, except that in the second to last step (back with Totem) the pop-up dialog says An error occurred Location not found. The final result is the same: Totem does not play the DVD. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351130 Title: [jaunty] doesn't offer to install codecs when inserting non encrypted DVD -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 351130] Re: [jaunty] doesn't offer to install codecs when inserting non encrypted DVD
I tried again In Ubuntu 9.10 (this time with Revolution OS disc 2). I first experienced bug #466123. After installing gstreamer0.10-plugins- ugly and reinserting the DVD it went through these steps: * Pick the default (Open Movie Player) and click OK. * The Totem movie player window appears, along with a dialog box Search for suitable plugin?. * Click on the Search button. * A window appears titled Install Multimedia Plugins. It says Please select the packages for installation to provide the following plugins: - GStreamer element dvdspu. A popup window shows a progress bar while it searches. Then it says: No packages with the requested plugins found. * Click OK. The Install Multimedia Plugins window disappears and I'm back with Totem. The Free Software Song music video starts playing immediately. I don't know what fix was implemented, but it seems it could use a little polish. I'm not sure if this bug report should be reopened or a new one filed. -- [jaunty] doesn't offer to install codecs when inserting non encrypted DVD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351130 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 466123] Re: When trying to play a DVD, an error message is displayed: No URI handler implemented for dvd
There's no need to install non-free software, as comment 9 suggests (i.e. ubuntu-restricted-extras). I tried this on Ubuntu 9.10 and the only package I needed to install was gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly. That installs the necessary Gstreamer-Uri-Sources and pulls in the needed codecs (for MPEG en AC-3) and DVD libraries. After installing that, the error doesn't pop up anymore when I insert a Revolution OS DVD (no CSS restriction). Instead it pops up a dialog Search for suitable plugin?, but if I click Cancel then video and audio start playing. No DVD navigation, but that's an other matter. Expected behaviour: instead of the no URI handler error I want it to automatically install (or ask first, because it apparently falls in a restricted category) gstreamer0.10-plugins-ugly. -- When trying to play a DVD, an error message is displayed: No URI handler implemented for dvd https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/466123 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 351130] Re: [jaunty] doesn't offer to install codecs when inserting non encrypted DVD
I could reproduce this as I did in comment 2 on a freshly installed up to date Ubuntu 10.04. -- [jaunty] doesn't offer to install codecs when inserting non encrypted DVD https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/351130 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to totem in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 61211] Re: Your audio capture settings are invalid. Please correct them in the Multimedia settings. is a really unhelpful error message
I just tested again. In Hardy (well, gNewSense): asoundconf set-default-card foo Start Sound Recorder = error about multimedia settings In Intrepid: asoundconf set-default-card foo Start Sound Recorder = no error Recording from input Capture works. So it looks like it's fixed in Intrepid. -- Your audio capture settings are invalid.
