[Bug 175904] Re: Firefox-3.0 window moves to current workspace

2008-04-24 Thread Thilo Six
If you are starting it, how should it start in a different workspace,
and

close all FF, start xchat, click on a link. Happens here with kde 3.5.9
quite often.

how will it be moving from one to another?

well that's the question that opened this bugreport i guess

It doesn't make any sense to me...

to me either. but that doesn't mean it doesn't happen.

[Bug 175904] Re: Firefox-3.0 window moves to current workspace

2008-04-24 Thread Thilo Six
 close all FF

well that really does not make sense in this context

open FF on lets says workspace 4, open xchat on workspace 2 (kde) and click on
an link inside xchat.
FF moves to the current workspace.

I just tested the same with Thunderbird and Akregator - it doesn't happen from
inside those apps.
so maybe it is more xchat related... ?

$ aptitude show libvte9 | grep -A 2 State: installed

from those repo mentioned in #89660.

But Shift+F1 inside vim still gives: 1;2P

so those packages doesn´t solve it.

upstream update:

This seems to work for me now. Fixed?
.
.
.
Same here, but I forgot to report back here ... sorry. :-/

Seems like it was a vte bug after all, as gnome-terminal-2.18.1 didn't fix it,
but the latest vte-0.16.8 did - yeah! Upgrading to vte-0.16.8 brought back the
Ctrl+Up/Down/Left/Right functionality in mc immediately, and the Shift-Fn
function keys also worked again after relearning them in mc (F9 - Options -
Learn Keys).

Big thanks to whoever found and fixed that annoying bug - gnome-terminal is now
finally usable again with mc! :-)

as it seems in vte-0.16.8 the bug is solved.
If i am not wrong that´s the version in gutsy.

currently no working gutsy here - can someone confirm?

[Bug 93381] Re: [Feisty] Name column width in nautilus

2007-08-02 Thread Thilo Six
Upstream update:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=419343#c5

I've committed a patch that restores the old column autosizing behaviour, while
keeping the ellipsization of the column. I think it's the best compromise right
now, since I think the intent of the change was not make the initial filename
column size hard-wired, but to get ellipsization applied to it. I know the old
behaviour is not always ideal (if you have a folder with single long filename
for example), but nobody really complained about it.
The expandable-column-based approach looks promising, but behaves quirky with a
stock gtk+ as long as bug 316087 is not fixed.

2007-08-01 Martin Wehner [EMAIL PROTECTED]

* libnautilus-private/Makefile.am:
* libnautilus-private/nautilus-cell-renderer-text-ellipsized.c:
* libnautilus-private/nautilus-cell-renderer-text-ellipsized.h:
* src/file-manager/fm-list-view.c: (create_and_set_up_tree_view):
Use a custom cell renderer for the filename column which applies
ellipsization but reports its size based on the actual width of
the text to be rendered. This restores the original column
autosizing behaviour while keeping the ellipsization. (#419343)

2007-07-27 Thread Thilo Six
Thanks a lot for the detailed report and the detailed logs.

You are welcome. Thanks for debugging it. ;)

I have to admit that I'm a bit lost why the 'reboot-required' file is
created and what creates it.

Well good to know someone takes care of it,

Sidenote:
I thing this still happens (with feisty - although i have to say i lost his
bugreport from my radar).
When it happens next time, i will try to report the steps to reproduce.

In Debian we apply the patch in http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=419343
which partly fixes the issue, but it also requires the one in

to work correctly.

update:
tested gutsy and there nautilus is even somewhat stranger.
You can´t change any width.

Instead someone has to switch to icon view and back, then the width of
all colums gets recalculated.

But that doesnt seem to be logical, too.

Nominated this bug for gutsy release, waiting for developer response

Created an attachment (id=88252) [edit]
expand the column with a minimum size

This patch improves the behavior by making the column expandable (as it was
some time in the 2.17 series), with another improvement being a minimum size
for the column. It avoids making the filenames unreadable when the window size
is too small.

This patch has been in Debian unstable for a few weeks (together with a fix for
bug#316087) and I have only received positive feedback.

[Bug 93381] Re: [Feisty] Name column width in nautilus

2007-06-24 Thread Thilo Six
ok it seems somewhat difficult to dupe those, because they are under
heavy usage.

I add a semi complete bug list to all of them.

** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: nautilus

Now in Feisty the behavior of nautilus regarding calculating the column
  width has changed.

previously the first column (aka Name) would have been made as wide as
needed to show the longest file name in the current directory.

Now that seems to be superseded by showing all columns in window even
when this means filenames are *not* completly visible.

This has the result in changing the width of Name column after every
directory change.
The last column (in my case owner) therefore seems allways to be much
bigger then needed.

Those changes are better discussed upstream than being distro specific

I said i keep track of those bugs. For me this includes to keep you informed
about what´s going on.
And i also informed upstream about it.

I agree this (mis)-behavior should be fixed upstream (even the applied
patch to hard code the width is only a workaround Ellipsisation, not a
fix imho).

So lets hope nautilus 2.19 will improve the situation

[Bug 93381] [Feisty] Name column width in nautilus

2007-03-18 Thread Thilo Six
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

Now in Feisty the behavior of nautilus regarding calculating the column
width has changed.

previously the first column (aka Name) would have been made as wide as
needed to show the longest file name in the current directory.

Now that seems to be superseded by showing all columns in window even
when this means filenames are *not* completly visible.

This has the result in changing the width of Name column after every
directory change.
The last column (in my case owner) therefore seems allways to be much bigger
then needed.

hmm sorry it wasn´t my intent to put extra load on you.

but yes the bugs i report should be fixed in ubuntu i think,
otherwise you will get even more load because of other (many more) people
reporting the same.

before release)

So in case of this bugs of today i will keep track.
and if i needed any help or in case there are things (patches) to do i will

[Bug 91468] [Feisty] problems with vim and shortcuts

2007-03-16 Thread Thilo Six
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: vim-full

I have vim-full installed:

$ aptitude show vim-full
Package: vim-full
State: installed
Automatically installed: no
Version: 1:7.0-164+1ubuntu6

In my .vimrc i have the following keymapping:

The paste option is intended for invoking temporarily while pasting in text.
It avoids things like autoindent causing stepped text. This defines the
\tp (toggle paste) mapping, also set to S-F4 in both normal and insert
 mode:
nnoremap \tp :set invpaste paste?CR
nmap S-F4 \tp
imap S-F4 C-O\tp
set pastetoggle=S-F4

But instead of setting vim into paste mode it enters 1;2S at cursor
position.

After playing a little i found out:

S-F5S-F6S-F7S-F8S-F9S-F11S-F12
These work as expected.

But shift+F1 produces 1;2P
shift+F2 produces 1;2Q
shift+F3 produces 1;2R
shift+F4 produces 1;2S

any idea how to stop this?

Package: gdm
Version: 2.15.7-0ubuntu1
Severity: important

gdmXnestchooser after start only blinking with hourglass cursor and I

But after your rebootet the message appears again? or only after the
next update?

Only after the next upgrade of packages.

Only after the next upgrade of packages.

I am thinking about this.

After update or upgrade??
Does it make a difference?

Since i get used to do an upgrade right after update when i see it
downloads the package Index on update.

[OT]
 Thanks for your bugreport.
Thank YOU for caring about my issues. ;)
[/OT]

# mount|grep varrun
varrun on /var/run type tmpfs (rw)

# ls -l /var/run/reboot-required
ls: /var/run/reboot-required: No such file or directory

I assume you rebooted between the messages ,) ?

Yeap. I am not an uptime-junkie and shutdown my machine in the evening.
;)

additional information:
Today there way a whole bunch of updates (~145 packages)
update-notifier was in between there.

So now i have installed:
# LANG=C apt-cache show notification-daemon | grep Version
Version: 0.3.4-0ubuntu8

# LANG=C apt-cache show update-notifier | grep Version
Version: 0.42.4

[Bug 45890] Message: You need to reboot after update of not system related packages

2006-05-21 Thread Thilo Six
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: notification-daemon

The notification applet tells me every time after upgrading of not system
related packages that i have to reboot.
e.g.:
Today i only updated example-content and festival.

A reboot seems not necessary to me.

Even if i would use festival a simple
$ /etc/init.d/festival restart

should suffice (which should/is done be dpkg anyway?).

** Affects: notification-daemon (Ubuntu)
   Severity: Normal
   Priority: (none set)
 Status: Unconfirmed

I use a shortcut to logout.

This got lost in one of the latest updates.
A shortcut for the logout screen is no more available right now.

[Bug 33002] Re: logout dialog UI objections

2006-04-21 Thread Thilo Six
I also have problems with the logout window.

I have tried that:
People who want to use the upstream dialogs are free to do so,
you just have to change /apps/panel/global/upstream_session
 key to true with gconf-editor

But this works only when clicking on the logout button.
I use a shotcut to logout.

The second and more confusing thing to me is the little save the session box
disappeared on logout window.

I get used to set up my session as i liked it, then loged out and saved it.
How do i do that now?

Here is a quote from the online Help window for Setting Session Preferences:

Automatically save changes to session:
[...]
If you do not select this option, when you
end your session the Logout Confirmation dialog displays a Save current setup
option.

So that Save current setup option is missing.

[Bug 32194] Re: no way to set order of startup programs

2006-04-21 Thread Thilo Six
For those of you who suffer i have a workaround.

in the tab Startup Programs enter the program you like to start like this:

sleep 3 /usr/bin/klipper

and with amount of seconds you can force them to start in the order you would
like to have them.

I use the above example to klipper after the notification area is started.
