[Bug 529996] Re: [CSD] Entire desktop has a window frame

The patch doesn't completely fix the problem for me.

there.

[Bug 294032] Re: Nautilus crashes when mounting an ISO using mount archive

2009-01-29 Thread Tim Fuchs
I made a backtrace for this two weeks ago but as I expected the bug
report got closed a s a duplicate:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/316747

That's a big flaw of Launchpad because when you submit a bug through
apport you can either open a new bug or subscribe to an existing one.
When you do the latter, you lose alle the submitted data. If you do the
former your bug will be closed as a duplicate (except if the bug didn't
exist before but that's rarely the case in my experience).

Then there is a third bug report here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/259343

which has been marked as fixed because Jaunty doesn't have the bug
anymore. I nominated the bug for Intrepid but I have no idea whether
this will get accepted or even who has the power to decide.

All in all the whole process is not very transparent and complicated.
I tried my best to report the bug and provide information but I don't excpect
this to get fixed before Jaunty gets released (this is based on my experience
with previous Ubuntu version and other bugs). Then I will upgrade my Ubuntu
install and this bug will be gone, but there will be other regressions and the
whole game starts from the beginning.

Sorry for the little rant at the and but as much as I like Ubuntu, bug
fixing in released versions is definitely none of the projects
qualities.

[Bug 219080] [NEW] [Rgeression] Evince prints pages in a strange order

2008-04-18 Thread Tim Fuchs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

I have to print out presentation slides for university and because they
don't contain much text and the fonts are big I want to print out
several pages on one sheet of paper.

I open the PDF in evince, go to Print, select print to file (I print out
the stuff at my university and I can only upload .ps files to them) and
press print.

The resulting .ps file has a strange layout, like this:

(I know that is some bad ASCII art, but I think you get the idea.)

-
| 2 | 4 |
-
| 1 | 3 |
-

What I obviously want is something like this:

-
| 1 | 2 |
-
| 3 | 4 |
-

The problem is that you can't select the orientation of the paper.
Evince assumes that the sheet of paper is vertical, while it's actually
horizontal.

[Bug 217196] [NEW] Totem-gstreamer produces artifacts during encoding

2008-04-14 Thread Tim Fuchs
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: totem

Totem randomly shows artifacts when watching a video. Look at the
screenshot I attached and you'll know what I mean.

This isn't a problem with the video itself, when I rewind and play the
exact section again it's fine.

I don't know very much about video encoding but it seems to me that
there is problem with handling the different types of frames. GStreamer
seems to drop key-frames so that alterations made to that frame will
actually be applied to an older, wrong key-frame, producing a garbled
picture.

[Bug 125075] Re: nm-applet: requests keyring password, doesn't use it

2007-11-17 Thread Tim Fuchs
My keyring manager also behaves very weird/annoying, similar but still
slightly different to the description of the OP.

That's what happens when I start my computer:

1. A dialog pops up and asks for my keyring password which stores my WPA
key. When I enter the password and press ok the same dialog pops up
again. I can do this as often as I want.

2. I press deny to get rid of that useless dialog.

3. A dialog pops up that looks just like the first one except it has a
little check box under the password entry which says something like
Remember the password. While the checkbox doesn't seem to have any
effect whatsoever this dialog actually accepts my keyring password and a
connection to my wireless is established

4. A dialog pops up asking for my password again, it behaves just like
the first one, i.e. it pops up again and again when I enter my password
so I just click deny and I'm fine.

It's also interesting what happens when I lose my wlan connection (which
happens randomly every few hours, but that's an other story):

1. I choose my wlan network from the list.
2. A dialog pops up asking me for my keyring password. When I enter my password
and press OK the dialog just ops up again. When I don't enter the password and
click DENY network-manager connects to my wlan. Security-wise, this behaviour
is.. errr... interesting.

Even more annoying is the behaviour when I connect to a WebDAV share
with nautilus:

1. I choose Places - Connect to server and enter the WebDAV details
2. I click on the new icon named after the connection on my desktop
3. Around ten dialogs pop up asking me for the password.
4. Whenever I do sth. in the nautilus window of the WebDAV connection, i.e.
create a file, open a folder... 10 new dialogs pop up asking me for my
password. It doesn't matter which of the options in the dialog (Forget password
immediately, Save password for this session, Save password forever) I choose.

So to sum it up: Using anything that accesses a keyring ib Ubuntu Gutsy
is either annyoing or practically unusable, Any suggestions?

[Bug 22291] Re: totem: switch to fullscreen doesn't work well

I experience this bug too, so I confirmed it.
This bug existed basically forever in Ubuntu, I us it since warty and it has
been there IIRC

It's not extremely annyoing so I never bothered to report it but I
stumbled on this bug now, and seeing it affecting other users I realized
it might be a bigger deal than I thought,

The thing is: most of the time fullscreen works ok but sometimes (maybe
1 in 10-20 times) it behaves as Christophe explained.

I will try it with xine-ui in the next days and post my experience here.

[Bug 107050] The Totem Firefox plugin loads fine but doesn't play

[Bug 57996] Re: Mixer applet shows different icon in bottom panel than in top panel

2006-09-03 Thread Tim Fuchs
The problems is because of the panel size.

The panel size you can set in the GUI is 25 minimum but when you set it
manually in gconf-editor to 24 all icons are the right size.

I say all icons because the icon of my contact-applet suddenly changed
to a bigger version, as did the terminal icon.

I suggest to either fix the code that selects the different icon sizes
or to make it possible to choose a panel size of 24px again.

[Bug 57996] Re: Mixer applet shows different icon in bottom panel than in top panel

2006-08-29 Thread Tim Fuchs
I'm using edgy with the tango-icon-theme (currently version
0.7.2+cvs06.07.31-0ubuntu3)

The same bug also appears when I use the Tangerine or Gnome icon theme.

[Bug 57996] Mixer applet shows different icon in bottom panel than in top panel

2006-08-28 Thread Tim Fuchs
Public bug reported:

I'm not sure whether this is a bug in gnome-panel or gnome-applets.

Anyway, when I add a mixer applet to the top panel it displays using the
2Dish 24x24 icon, the same as in totem etc.

When I drag this very same applet to my bottom panel it suddendly
displays a 3Dish icon, maybe it's the SVG version.

Both panels have the size 25.

** Affects: gnome-applets (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Untriaged
 Status: Unconfirmed

I confirmed the bug although the title actually proposes a wrong solution.
Please read my last comment.

[Bug 34596] Re: gparted should read GNOME Partition Editor in menu

2006-04-16 Thread Tim Fuchs
I would suggest to drop the gparted and also to rename the titlebar of the
program's main window.

The HIG states:
Do not include technical details when the user does not need to know them, or
can infer them from context. Avoid technical jargon unless the application is
to be used only by a technical audience.

Additionally gparted stands for (GNOME/GTK Partition Editor) and we already
have the Partition Editor bit and parted itself refers to a library, nothing
any user should have to care about.
