[Bug 500417] Re: nautilus doesn't honor gnome theme
@Pedro - OK, perhaps this is a bug with gnome-settings-daemon, rather than Nautilus. I didn't mean to appear rude, but I am not a developer, so I'd don't know which it is (I'm just trying to be helpful, and to report bugs and get issues fixed). [Bug 508632] Re: [FFe] Toggle button for Nautilus location field gone
I also miss this functionality, as in my day-to-day work, I am very frequently copying file paths from Nautilus and pasting them into a terminal. This change just causes me aggravation, and has severely slowed down my workflow. At times, I have now found myself using Dolphin because its quicker and easier to use to perform the regular tasks I need to perform. If the change was considered necessary, then there should have been an option in Nautilus Properties to switch the button back on if that is what a user wants. Linux and FOSS is meant to be about choice and freedom, after all. Telling users to use Ctrl+L is not a valid response to this problem. That is not a solution, it is a workaround for power users. No regular users know about this shortcut. In fact, most experienced users won't know about this shortcut. I certainly didn't. Keyboard shortcuts are there to provide power users who can remember shortcuts with a way to perform regular tasks quicker. They should NEVER be a complete replacement for GUI-based functionality. I can start it by running gnome-panel in terminal. As a workaround, I have to add gnome-panel to the list of Startup applications. I have corresponded with several people on the Ubuntu forums who have had this same problem, although it seems - surprisingly - that nobody has reported this as a bug yet (apologies if I'm duplicating an already-reporting bug here, but I had a search and couldn't find one). I don't get this problem after a fresh install - only after I have installed my normal set of programs from the Ubuntu repos and then added my own icon and GTK 2.0 themes. However - I have got the same problem on every single install of Karmic 9.10 that I have done (approx 10 installs, between 3 machines) - so it is reproducible every time. Also, at approximately the same time that Karmic was released, Ubuntu automatic updates broke gnome-panel on my Jaunty 9.04 install, producing exactly the same problem. Still getting problems with this. I'm also getting similar problems in the Lucid 10.04 alpha 2, which is worrying. What happens: For example, take a look at this latest screenshot. I have 5 random icons on my Desktop. I right-mouse-click and select Clean Up By Name - so that the 5 icons are lined up correctly and tidily. I then create a new .txt file and save it to my Desktop. As you can see from the screenshot, the icon for the new .txt file doesn't appear below the other icons - instead it appears on top of the 4th icon down. [Bug 518873] Re: gnome-panel fails to start when desktop loads
Hello Draycen, no problem! I can provide you with a list of installed packages if you think it would help - although they aren't all from the Ubuntu repos - as part of my standard Ubuntu setup I do install quite a few packages from 3rd-party repo's like Medibuntu, GetDeb etc - although only stable packages, nothing alpha from PPA's or anything like that as these are production machines for me to get work done on. I also uninstall a handful of packages, although I can't see how that would affect this bug. Anyway, just let me know. In the meantime, I've almost finished installing all the same packages (or their Lucid equivalents) on my 10.04 alpha2 install, and not been able to reproduce the bug - so perhaps its fixed in Lucid, or is an upstream GNOME problem (I did have a quick search on GNOME Bugzilla but couldn't find a match). [Bug 516384] Re: desktop theme inside nautilus is corrupted
I can confirm this bug in Karmic (worked fine in Jaunty with same icon set and GTK 2.0 theme) What happens: I get this problem in approximately 25% of cases. When I power on my machine and the Desktop loads, it loads the GNOME icon set and GNOME GTK 2.0 theme, instead of my own choice of icon and GTK 2.0 theme. If I open gnome-appearance-properties, my correct choices are selected. If I then double-click on the correct theme in gnome-appearance- properties, the correct icon set and GTK theme are then loaded - but to everything EXCEPT Nautillus - the Desktop still has the GNOME icons, and Nautilus itself still has the GNOME GTK 2.0 theme. I've had this same problem on all 3 of my machines that run Karmic (2 desktops and a laptop), so if it is due to corruption then its corruption that is reproducible on every machine I use. One thing that might be important is that my icon theme is very large (around 29,000 icons, about 300MB in size) - could this be the cause of the problem? Technical Details: Distro Version - Ubuntu Karmic 9.10, 32-bit, default fresh install with latest updates Desktop Environment - GNOME 2.28.1 (Ubuntu 2009-11-03) Kernel - Linux 2.6.31-19-generic System - Athlon 64 3400 2.2GHz processor, NVidia 6800LE graphics, 1.5MB RAM Nautilus Version - 2.28.1 -- desktop theme inside nautilus is corrupted https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/516384 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 518873] [NEW] gnome-panel fails to start when desktop loads
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: gnome-panel What happens: When I start my Karmic 9.10 machine and the desktop loads, gnome-panel fails to start. I can start it by running gnome-panel in terminal. As a workaround, I have to add gnome-panel to the list of Startup applications. I have corresponded with several people on the Ubuntu forums who have had this same problem, although it seems - surprisingly - that nobody has reported this as a bug yet (apologies if I'm duplicating an already- reporting bug here, but I had a search and couldn't find one). What should happen: gnome-panel should start when the desktop is loaded, without manual intervention from the user. [Bug 518873] Re: gnome-panel fails to start when desktop loads
Hello Draycen, thanks for taking a look at this bug. I'm still trying to work out if its installation of a particular software package that causes this bug. I think it must be, as I have exactly the same set of programs installed on each Karmic machine I use. However, so far I have been unable to narrow it down. Originally I thought it might be caused by Ubuntu-Tweak, but then the problem appeared again on a machine without Ubuntu-Tweak installed. So unless I do another fresh install and install packages one at a time and reboot to test after each one - which takes about 4 1/2 hours on my slow-ish ADSL connection (I live a long way from the telephone exchange), then I don't know what else to suggest. Hopefully someone else who gets this problem might be able to add information to this log. In the meantime, I am running a 10.04 alpha2 test install and installing a couple of packages at a time, to see if I can replicate this bug on Lucid - but so far its working OK.
