[Bug 387957] Re: Improve Save As Dialog Box (focus issues)

2021-04-21 Thread Jo Wilkes
This is a very irritating thing, and should be easy to solve. The fix is just
changing initial focus!
Hard to understand this has been open for 12 years now.

There's even a risk of data loss by unintentionally overwriting a file
when one types, *as it works just fine on all other OS*, the filename to
save the file as and hits return... overwriting some other file that
just happened to "match" the "filter".

[Bug 1100415] [NEW] "git commit" fails if gedit is already opened

2013-01-16 Thread Jo Vik
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1) Open gedit
2) Go to git directory
3) Change a tracked file (file.c)
4) Execute "git add file.c"
5) Set gedit as default editor with "git config --global core.editor gedit"
5) Then "git commit"

Expected result:
gedit opens, user adds comment, saves the file and successfully ends commit:
"[master 31c21eb] USER COMMENT GOES HERE
 1 file changed, 1 insertion(+), 1 deletion(-)"

Current result:
After gedit is opened git immediately outputs following message:
"Aborting commit due to empty commit message."

It's a common issue when using gedit with git; not related to Linux
distro or its architecture (x86 or x86-64)

Same problem with Ubuntu 12.04 x64.

I don't think it's a wishlist or low priority bug, since it directly
affects all users. Most of us are patient, but this bug won't help
solving bug#1 (aka Microsoft market share)

[Bug 995885] Re: Custom keyboard shortcuts do not work if they use the Super key

2012-05-07 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
I am not able to set a custom keyboard shortcut using any combination
with Super. No difficulties otherwise. However, there is an exception; I
can use super+0 to switch to another workspace. That slot is unused on
the launcher. Very strange. In a guest user, I emptied the launcher
completely, and then I could assign super+num to switch between
workspaces, though it didn't seem to work immediately.

Weird bug. I think it'll need some thorough testing.

[Bug 922299] Re: Mouse-wheeling sliders moves them the wrong way.

2012-04-24 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
Actually, with the new audio dialog, the Volume slider at the bottom
doesn't react to scrolling at all. Neither does Balance in the right
pane of the Output tab. The slider in the Effects tab also doesn't
react. And not per-application audio.

In summary; none of the sliders react on scrolling anymore.

2012-04-12 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad

[Bug 929577] [NEW] Appearance > Behavior > Reveal sensitivity should work opposite

2012-02-09 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
Public bug reported:

The reveal sensitivity slider in Appearance > Behavior gave me the
impression that it went from slow to fast. After carefully reading the
labels, I eventually figured out that it was opposite. But if the
immediate reaction counts, and I think it should, then it seems to me
that it should work the opposite way, so that left is most sensitive.

I understand why that might sound odd. However, I think most users won't
look at it as sensitivity, but how long it takes to reveal the launcher.
In that case, it makes sense that right will decrease sensitivitym since
you're increasing the time it takes to reveal it.. Of course, this is my
subjective experience. But if I were surprised – I actually thought it
didn't work at first – then I think others might too. At the very least,
this should be tested on innocent users.

It might've been easier to understand if the default was at the middle.
The fact that this wouldn't necessarily be mathematically correct, is
less important, I think.

[Bug 922299] [NEW] Mouse-wheeling "Launcher icon size" slider moves it the wrong way.

2012-01-26 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
Public bug reported:

Steps:

1) Open the control center and open User Interface.
2) Move the mouse pointer to the "Launcher icon size" slider.
3) Scroll the mouse wheel upwards.
4) Notice that the slider moves to the left.
5) Scroll the mouse wheel downwards
6) Notice that the slider moves to the right.

This is opposite of how all other sliders work, including the volume
control, for instance.

when i try to search anything in a single folder the search option works
perfectly

but if i change the option to current account or all accounts and try to
search any option then the evolution just closes down

It becomes difficult to search in individual folder.

[Bug 917821] Re: nautilus crashed with SIGSEGV in g_file_is_native()

2012-01-18 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
Bart Willemsen: thank you for the tip. I can confirm that. It works
perfectly well when Nautilus is already running. I don't really
understand why Nautilus isn't always running. I have icons on my
desktop. But when I manually open a new Nautilus instance, the
quicklists work as they're supposed to.

[Bug 918017] [NEW] Sound preferences: mouse scrolling balance only works for right.

2012-01-17 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:

* Open the sound preferences dialog.
* Select output device
* Use the mouse wheel and roll upwards to move balance towards the right.
* Roll downwards and observe that you can only move back to center.

Of course, it should be possible to do the same thing in both
directions. Not the biggest bug of all, but if someone has some spare
time. :)

I too experience very -- very -- slow movement of windows. It is to the
point where the pointer "looses grip" of the window. I think this has
been reported in another bug, however. What makes you think they're
related issues? That would seem very strange to me, since they're
completely separate entities.

2011-11-09 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
I have only experienced this in Nautilus. I've also only heard people
complaining about Nautilus. I use a fully updated 11.10, with Unity.

I haven't been able to reproduce it reliably, but it has happened
several times. Though it doesn't prove anything, it's only happened when
I've had many windows open, multitasking heavily with several workspaces
and two screens.

[Bug 879456] Re: Typeahead functionality for nautilus is broken

2011-11-07 Thread Jo
I have the same problem with the backspace (navigating backwards instead
of deleting the last character).

I use Ubuntu 11.10 (fresh installation) with the latest updates.

** Description changed:

This bug is similar to: #857710 File selection by typing is buggy
  sometimes

  Description: Ubuntu 11.10
  Release: 11.10

  nautilus:
- Installed: 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu1
- Candidate: 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu1
+   Installed: 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu1
+   Candidate: 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu1

However the person that was assigned to that bug told me to file a new one
because supposedly it is a different bug.
I installed the nautilus 1:3.2.1-0ubuntu1 package from ubuntu proposed and
all packages related and I still experience the following behavior:

  Expected behavior:

  - Open nautilus in ANY folder.
  - Start typing name of folder/file.
  - Nautilus selects folders/file matching as you type (one file at a time
matching what is in the search/typeahead box).
  - Type backspace
  - Deletes the last character typed in search/typeahead box

  Actual Behavior

  - Open nautilus in ANY folder.
  - Start typing the name of a folder/file.
  - Sometimes the search box opens and sometimes it does not. (BUG)
  - If it does open, after a letter or two the search box disappears. (BUG)
  - If you change folders sometimes the box reappears as you start typing other
times it disappears. (BUG)
  - If the box re-appears typing in Back-space does not delete the text present
in the box, instead it navigates backwards (Unexpected behavior)
  - If it disappears It does not re-appear until you close and re-open
nautilus. (BUG)

This happens in ALL views (Icon, List, Compact) with or without status
bar enabled (Some suggested that the status bar fixes this, it does
  not).

The newly released packages (nautilus* 3.2.1) DO NOT fix this bug.

I am on Ubuntu 11.10 64Bit Using Gnome 3.2 and Gnome Shell.
Upgraded to this ubuntu since 10.04

[Bug 886520] [NEW] Controls and menus disappear from time to time.

2011-11-05 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
Public bug reported:

On several occasions, I've noticed that the toolbar just disappears in
Nautilus. This started happening very recently, though I've been using
11.10 for more than two months. I've been told by several users that the
same thing happens to menus. Now, there's also been two separate
questions about it on AskUbuntu.com which tells me that the issue is
absolutely real. See http://askubuntu.com/questions/64464/empty-
nautilus-menus and http://askubuntu.com/questions/75733/nautilus-menus-
empty-ubuntu-11-10.

I haven't been able to reproduce it reliably, though it _seems_ to have
something to do with workspace switching, but that's only speculation.

[Bug 886359] [NEW] Missing feature blocks Python apps from being ported to GTK3.

2011-11-04 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
Public bug reported:

gi.overrides.Gtk.ListStore has no attribute .reorder. Porting a PyGTK
app to GI GTK3, I found that sorting a TreeView is no longer possible
because GTK.ListStore doesn't provide a .reorder method. Reading the
source code, I found that pygobject indeed doesn't have any override for
.reorder. This is the source code I'm talking about:
http://git.gnome.org/browse/pygobject/tree/gi/overrides/Gtk.py

This is something I can't fix, but since it's likely that many Python
GTK apps use TreeViews, it'd be very nice if a wizard could have a look
at this ASAP.

choose to send as an IM via Empathy/Telepathy. There is currently no
easy way of seeing what protocol your contacts are using, and in many

[Bug 804851] [NEW] Display problem when returning from hibernate

2011-07-02 Thread Jo
Public bug reported:

If I turn the netbook on from hibernate mode, most of the screen is
taken up with black pixels with a band of different coloured pixels
across the top. When I move the cursor the screen flickers and shows
slices of the windows that are open. The computer allows me to log in
and to use the shutdown menu to shut it down and seems to behave
normally. This does not occur on startup, only on resuming from
hibernate.

I have attached a photo of it happening taken with a camera because I
can't save a screenshot when I can't see the desktop to open GIMP!

[Bug 793381] [NEW] evolution crashes with segmentation fault

2011-06-05 Thread jo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I have a typical situation
I am across my office proxy using ubuntu 11.04.
I have set the static ip and also the network proxy to entire system through
network proxy settings.
I use and like evolution as my mail handler and i am using it for almost 5
years now. This problem which i will tell you was not there before ubuntu 11.04.
To update i use to use apt-get command from command window. it was not working
after upgrade to ubuntu 11.04. from ubuntu community i found out to add lines
given below in my /home/`/.bashrc
export http_proxy=192.168.90.94:8080
export https_proxy=192.168.90.94:8080
export ftp_proxy=192.168.90.94:8080

In evolution I have set network preferences as use system defaults.
Now when io try to use evolution to send and receive mails it does not work it
gives error of time out.
Next when i set network proxy system wide to direct connection and then run
evolution from user prompt in command window then the evolution starts fetchin
mails and sending them. I tried with removing the lines from .bashrc and then
using system proxy settings it never worked.
i ried to set proxy in evolution separately it still didn't work. This has
become a great unconvinience as if i use direct connection settings in network
proxy settings it stops browsers and other applications from using internet
across proxy and only evolution fetches mails. and vice a versa. Am i amking
any mistake. can this be set right.
Please help.

[Bug 777661] Re: gnome-volume-control doesn't /always/ remember sound theme between sessions

2011-05-05 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
I think I've found the problem. It seems that the settings aren't
flushed to disk immediately, so if you log out quickly after changing a
setting in gnome-volume-control, then it is forgotten. If you wait a
couple of minutes after selecting sound theme before you log out, then
it is remembered. But this is inconsistent with the rest of the dialog,
because the volume selection in the same tab is remembered regardless.
Steps to reproduce:

1) select a new sound theme in the preferences dialog.
2) log out immediately afterwards and log back in.
3) observe that the new theme is not remembered.
4) in the same tab in the dialog, set a new sound level
5) log out immediately and back in.
6) observe that the volume _is_ stored.
7) perform steps 1-6 again, but this time wait two minutes before logging out.
8) observe that everything works as expected.

[Bug 777661] [NEW] gnome-volume-control doesn't /always/ remember sound theme between sessions

2011-05-05 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-media

In 11.04, if you select a sound theme in gnome-volume-control, it isn't
always remembered between sessions. It is a very strange bug. Sometimes,
it is remembered, other times it isn't and I don't know why. I use
Unity. Steps to reproduce:

1) Click the audio icon indicator.
2) Select preferences.
3) In the first tab, select a sound theme different from the currently selected
one.
4) close the dialog and repeat steps 1-3.
5) Observe that your choice is remembered.
6) log out and back in.
7) repeat steps 1-3: your choice of theme should now be forgotten.
9) if it is remembered, repeat steps 1-8 a few times and observe that the
setting is sometimes forgotten.

[Bug 717971] Re: Can't provide password for account capplet although it asks me to

2011-04-12 Thread jo
Thank you for many suggestions,
I am using a user session and not root, my mistake that i sent you the output
of dpkg -l evolution from SU mode.
I have tried with change in theme, it has resolved a lot of icon errors.
About version my output at command prompt shows
j0053@RDL:~$ cat /etc/lsb-release
DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu
DISTRIB_RELEASE=11.04
DISTRIB_CODENAME=natty
DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu Natty (development branch)"
j0053@RDL:~$

I tried changing locally the proxy setting in evolution from system config
setting to manual proxy settings it is also not helping out.
Can you please guide me on configuration files for evolution in home directory.
Its still not working nowfollowing command shows as below

 j0053@RDL:~$ dpkg -l evolution

[Bug 755667] [NEW] high cpu usage when a properties window is open

2011-04-09 Thread Jo-Erlend Schinstad
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: seahorse

This bug affects both 2.30 and 2.32 (Lucid and Maverick).

When you open Seahorse find some password and open its properties
window, CPU usage skyrockets. It's not exactly a major problem, but it
also doesn't seem necessary.

I am still not able to receive or send mails through evolution.
the main problem seems to be that the pop up window of authentication is not
apearing and hence finally i get message of connection timed out
I am against a proxy on lan connection in my office. i am using POP server for
receiving and smtp for sending
both servers need authentication password with same email id
in smtp configuration i am using pop before smtp option, once i tried login
also but nothing worked. Please help me resolve the issue.
I tried reinstalling evolution from synaptic but nothing worked as yet.
As this is my mail handler for office mail its becoming too inconvinient to
always use mail through my website as it has limited quota.

2011-03-16 Thread jo
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I recently upgraded from Ubuntu 10.01to 11.04 alpha 3. while upgrading i
maintained all original version and no package maintainers version for
configuration fles. Now when i open my evolution it had partially imported the
old evolution and has taken all account settings. I am across a office proxy
server and the system is connecting to INTERNET through this proxy. my mail
account is POP/smtp.
When i click send and receive it does not fetch my mails from server and shows
