[Bug 1036062] [NEW] user must find windows that block shutdown

2012-08-13 Thread mlg7
Public bug reported:

1. configure your environment to use 10 desktops (the number is not really
important, but I use 10)
2. on each desktop, open some application windows (Eclipse, web browsers,
terminal, android's abd logcat, mc, etc)
3. spend some time working; when you see a text that looks important, open a
gedit window and copy the important text there.
4. select shutdown in Gnome

Actual: shutdown is blocked; you can cancel it but to review the unsaved
documents you have to locate them yourself, looking through all your
desktops and all your windows

Expected: shutdown is blocked, but you can review all unsaved documents
without cancelling the shutdown; there's a magic button that causes
the next unsaved document to appear on the _current_ desktop _on_top_ of
other windows so that you can read it and decide what to do with it.

PS I hate such shutdowns, but some updates require it, and the software
(including Eclipse) sometimes glitches, making me suspect a global
resource leak.

[Bug 943938] Re: The save changes before closing and find dialogs are not properly displayed

2012-03-12 Thread mlg7
I have managed to obtain at least some screenshot. (Usually when you
launch or switch to another application, including take screenshot,
the dialog gets drawn correctly.)

[Bug 943938] Re: The save changes before closing and find dialogs are not properly displayed

2012-03-10 Thread mlg7
Now I see the same (or a similar) bug in other programs too:
after 3 non-working days the login screen showed me just a text field instead
of a dialog;
Mozilla Thunderbird showed a naked progress bar and the dialog has appeared
only at the moment before closing.
And I see the same misbehaviour in Eclipse.

Windows used to misbehave this way due to a graphics handle leak.

I think, gedit is a wrong component. What component is affected then?

[Bug 943938] [NEW] The save changes before closing and find dialogs are not properly displayed

2012-03-01 Thread mlg7
Public bug reported:

The Cheshire Cat Glitch

I see this bug on each 4th Ctrl+F dialog and on almost each attempt to
close a document tab without saving.

0. I have Eclipse, Code::Blocks and Chromium (many windows of about 6
tabs, Google and Stackoverflow) and Opera (many tabs) running. The last
gedit tab reads Untitled Document 25, the tabs contain copy-paste-d
Android debug logs (long).

1. Press the [x] (lose tab) control on, say Untitled Document 24.

2.
(what I see) I see a shadow of a dialog but not the dialog itself. The [x]
control is still pressed.
(what I expect) My expectation is that the dialog is shown without any
additional steps.

3a. if you move mouse over the dialog (that is not shown but is
logically there), the dialog controls appear one by one.

3b. the whole dialog appears on the screen if you launch any application
or switch to another application (including an attempt to take a
screenshot).

I have seen analogous misbehaviour with the Find (Ctrl+F) dialog.
Sometimes I have seen the Find dialog partially transparent, like if it
began to gradually appear but stopped in the middle. I also see it
displayed ok or not displayer at all.

The worst user experience happens while trying to close a modified
document: the save your changes dialog does not appear, but the
document is not closed, and the user has no idea what's going on. And
yes, sometimes closing a modified document is a side effect of a
shutdown (in which case the shutdown does not happen, and the user just
switches the power off).

[Bug 884149] [NEW] take screenshot crashes xfce

2011-10-31 Thread mlg7
Public bug reported:

1. Install Ubuntu
2. change the desktop picture (wallpaper)
3. sudo aptitude install xfce

Hopefully, you may skip to step 7

4. sudo aptitude install gnome
5. sudo aptitude install kde

(6. Ahem... install the kde russian, polish and chinese language packs
and switch the system back to English -- if this step is required, this
one is really weird)

7. Take the screenshot (default options, whole desktop)

Expected: screenshot is taken, the system does not crash, the desktop
image remains the same, the xfce default one with a running rat

Actual: screenshot is taken, xfce desktop is replaced by the image
chosen for the unity, THE SYSTEM CRASHES (all desktop controls
disappear), you can do nothing with keyboard and/or mouse

The only way that works after this crash is a reboot. (Unsafe one,
because you cannot safely shutdown the system either).

Re: [Bug 403336] Gnome desktop stops responding when panel docked on left

2011-05-29 Thread mlg7
I have to install and move to a new OS to test a bug?
I'd suggest that you first move that panel to the left yourself and
tell me what happens (assuming of course that you yourself
are using your product), and then I'll think which partition I can
sacrifice in the name of 403336.

19.05.2011, 19:28, Pedro Villavicencio pe...@ubuntu.com:
Thanks for the report, it has been some time without any response or
feedback in this bug report and we are wondering if this is still an
issue for you with the latest release of Ubuntu the Natty Narwhal, May
you please test with that version and comment back if you're still
having or not the issue? Please have a look at
http://www.ubuntu.com/download to know how to install that
 version.Thanks in advance.

[Bug 770382] Re: sound too loud at login screen

2011-04-27 Thread mlg7
That is, you believe that drawing everyone's attention to your actions is not a
loss of privacy?
In theory, it is possible to turn speakers off. In practice, Nobody never
remembers to do it.

In addition, in some circumstances (like local trains) turning a laptop
on may be just dangerous: this misfeature will draw attention of
everyone around, regardless of who they are, and if there are people of
some sort... well... you may have your face punched and the laptop lost,
along with all data on it.

Please forgive my bluntness, such simple things about real life are
usually assumed to be self-understood. Probably, you live on a different
Earth Ball.

[Bug 745731] [NEW] system clock off by 1 hour after going to summer time

2011-03-30 Thread mlg7
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-system-tools

I have this problem on both Hardy (at home) and Maverick (at work).

To reproduce:
1) Install Ubuntu and Windows as they are out of box
2) Wait until the clock have to be adjusted (I think, you can reset the clock
rather than travel in time)
3) See the clock automatically adjusted by Ubuntu
4) reboot to Windows

The clock will be off by 1 hour in the other direction.

What I expect: either adjust the clock manually or see it adjusted automatically
What I get: after I verify that the clock is properly automatically adjusted,
the clock gets adjusted once more, at a date when it is not expected to change.

What can be done is a different question. A trivial solution would be to ask
the user sir, may I reset your clock? or at least tell the user that the
clock has been adjusted and as if it's ok (with an option to unde the
adjustment).
A better solution would be to detect that other operating systems tried to
reset the clock too.

[Bug 721140] [NEW] no support for hours:minutes calculations

2011-02-18 Thread mlg7
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gcalctool

The calculator supports hex, decimal, octal and binary, but does not support
the mixed 60:60 base calculation.
When I want to calculate a sum of, say, 9:30+7:45, I get a Malformed
expression notification,
whereas I want to get 17:15.

Please, note that in time calculations, the following formats may be used:
unlimited:60 for hours:minutes
unlimited:60:60 for hours:minutes:seconds
unlimited:60:60.100 for hours:minutes:seconds.hundreds
unlimited:60:60.1000 for hours:minutes:seconds.milliseconds
unlimited_24:60 for days_hours:minutes
unlimited_24:60:60 for days_hours:minutes:seconds
unlimited_24:60:60.100 for days_hours:minutes:seconds.hundreds
unlimited_24:60:60.1000 for days_hours:minutes:seconds.milliseconds

And, finally, sometimes we want to convert days_hours:minutes to, say,
seconds...

PS (Old joke)
how much is 50+50?
a) 100
b) A0
c) 1:40

PS and the way we count time is a _very_ old joke... But everyone is
locked in.

[Bug 683093] [NEW] gnome-screenshot photographs itself

2010-11-30 Thread mlg7
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-utils

The binary 'gnome-screenshot' is part of the gnome-utils package
$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS
Release:10.04

$ apt-cache policy gnome-utils
gnome-utils:
  Installed: 2.30.0-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 2.30.0-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 2.30.0-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://ru.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ lucid/main Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

TO REPRODUCE:
invoke [menu] -- Applications -- Accessories -- Take Screenshot.
Leave the Delay parameter to be 0 sec.
Press the Take Screenshot button.
(Maybe, you'll need to run a few Java applications + Sun Virtual Box
to have the processor(s) busy enough. I did.)

EXPECTED:
A screenshot of the desktop beneath the gnome-screenshot window.

ACTUAL:
There's a transparent shadow of the gnome-screenshot window.

Note that the ghost on the photo is not complete -- it's the upper
half.

2010-11-10 Thread mlg7
The same problem on terminator; xterm does distinguish them.

terminator:
pkey 27 79 72 ok
pkey 27 79 72 ok

xterm:
pkey 27 91 72 ok
pkey 27 91 49 59 53 72 ok

Thanks for the report, do you get the same on terminator or xterm?**

[Bug 665065] [NEW] cannot distinguish between Home and Ctrl+Home

2010-10-22 Thread mlg7
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

The main problem is that I cannot go to the start or end of file in mcedit.
But the problem is not in mcedit, it happens with other programs run in
terminal too.

This is what I get when I retrieve key codes using gforth run in
terminal:

: pkey key . begin key? while key . repeat ;

for Ctrl-Home and Home:
pkey 27 79 72 ok
pkey 27 79 72 ok

For Ctrl-End and End:
pkey 27 79 70 ok
pkey 27 79 70 ok

For comparison, for PgUp and Ctrl+PgUp I get:
pkey 27 91 53 126 ok
pkey 27 91 53 59 53 126 ok

[Bug 493034] [NEW] gnome-panel hangs with time, consuming %CPU and %MEM

2009-12-05 Thread mlg7
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-panel

package: gnome-panel

I expect it never to hang, but it hangs with time.
Usually, it happens when there's a heavy CPU load.
In addition, it slows down the system.
Probably, there's a race condition.
When deluge had a tray icon icon, the crashes happened more often.

Workaround: I have a launcher icon for killall gnome-panel on my desktop.
It gets restarted after it's killed.
