[Bug 186307] Re: Window List Invisibility Issue (Programs Disappear And Come Back Randomly)
Is this the right place to report that I also see this problem? I see notes that it has been reported upstream, but I don't see any link to where I could comment. I've been experiencing this problem regularly. I have a non-expanded bottom panel, with desktop effects enabled, and multiple desktops. The window list often stops updating, sometimes on one desktop, sometimes on a couple. The workaround I've been using is to switch to a desktop with a non- frozen window list. That seems to wake it up again and gets the other desktops working. -- Window List Invisibility Issue (Programs Disappear And Come Back Randomly) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/186307 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

Could this be bumped up a little higher than low priority please. It makes managing multiple terminals practically unworkable in 9.10. [Bug 185371] Re: Cannot umount the volume 'PHONE CARD'
I would just like to add that exactly the same happens to me, and has been doing ever since upgrading from Ubuntu 7.04. In 7.04, my Sony Ericsson k810i worked absolutely fine. Ever since it's never disconnected properly. Until now my workaround has been to use a different usb port every time I plug the phone in, and to reboot Ubuntu once I've exhausted all possible ports. This bug report has finally answered my questions, and the manual eject command works perfectly to restore the normal operation. As you can probably gather from the above, I'm no Ubuntu expert, but I would second the OP's request to have this bug moved to the appropriate package. Ross == And in case it helps, the details of exactly how this manifests itself on my system are: Plug in phone. Two nautilus folders pop up: PHONE PHONE CARD If I look in /dev, four devices appear: sdj sdj1 sdk sdk1 If I load GParted, I see something unusual: /dev/sdj has a fat16 partition showing for /dev/sdj1, mounted to /media/PHONE /dev/sdk just shows the entire thing as unallocated However, the phone card is definitely mounted. I can read write files fine in Nautilus, and the size shown for the sdk partition in GParted matches exactly the capacity shown if I look at the properties for the PHONE CARD location in nautilus. However, although things work while connected, it's unmounting the devices that has been causing problems: If I right-click on PHONE and choose unmount, it does that with no errors but the Nautilus display does not update - PHONE is still listed. Opening a new window shows that it is no longer mounted. If I unmount phone card, I get an error: Cannot unmount the volume 'PHONE CARD' and if I click details, it says: Cannot remove directory. Despite that however, the volume unmounts fine - both it and PHONE disappear immediately from the Nautilis window. But if I wait, a few seconds later, the following pops up too: DBus error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connectino was broken. At this point the phone now appears unmounted in Nautilus, but as reported above, the phone still tells me not to remove the USB cable, and I know from experience that if I just pull the cable now, Ubuntu will no longer recognise the device if plugged in to that USB port. However, following the OP's advice, if I run sudo eject /dev/sdk1, both sdj1 and sdk1 disappear, and at that point the phone tells me it's safe to remove the cable. Once I remove the cable, sdj and sdk disappear. And now it seems to be working perfectly. I can repeat this as many times as I like. For whatever reason, right-clicking on and unmounting the PHONE CARD does not work when done from Nautilus. Personally, I suspect this will be something to do with the partition not showing up in GParted. -- Cannot umount the volume 'PHONE CARD' https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/185371 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 372119] [NEW] last.fm suggestion - make 5 star = love it, 1 star = ban
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Would it be possible to have Rhythmbox automatically flag last.fm tracks as 'ban' or 'love' based on the star rating I give them? That would let me keep rhythmbox minimised and use tools like music- applet to integrate rhythmbox to my gnome panels, while retaining the ability to quickly flag last.fm songs I love. [Bug 370815] [NEW] Play status in notification area icon hard to see
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox Could I request a brighter graphic or bigger change to show when rhythmbox is playing since the current icon is hard to see clearly. What I would suggest is to colour the big circle in the icon the same as the blue play symbols, that white/blue contrast would make it much more obvious. I did try to do it myself after reading something about the icons being in /usr/share/rhythmbox/icons, but couldn't see anything that I could edit for the play icon. The reason I'd particularly like this is that with last.fm, there's quite often a pause before playback, and if you hit the wrong button you can completely hang some songs. I can fix that from the keyboard without opening the program, but to do that I need to know whether rhythmbox is currently playing so I know whether to hit play, stop or skip, and that's hard to see right now. [Bug 370295] [NEW] Inconsistent Minimizing to notification area
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: rhythmbox In Ubuntu 9.04, RhythmBox has two separate minimization behaviours. If you click the minimize button it acts like a normal program. If you click the icon in the notification area, it minimizes to there. I can't find anything in the preferences to say which I would prefer. Generally I'd like it to minimize to the notification area, and for both buttons to do this. [Bug 347784] Re: rhythmbox doesn't resume lastfm tracks
I've also seen this behaviour, but it appears to be a little more complex than just not being able to resume. Quite a lot of the last.fm behaviour appears buggy. Apologies if this should have been filed as a separate bug, however I believe it is all related and has the same root cause. One of the first times I tried to pause and resume a track, I had an error appear saying the appropriate codec could not be found, I didn't get the details I'm afraid but it said something about html content. This has only appeared once so far. Every time I pause resume, I get the stop symbol and can't resume playback. From that point on I can't go back to listen to that track. In fact, any attempt to rewind a track, or go back to a previous track also causes this problem. I have also had this happen once on the last track of a set list, in a way that appeared to prevent RhythmBox requesting more tracks from last.fm. I couldn't begin playing the last track, nor could I scroll down to get new tracks, nor could I go back to any previously listened to songs - any attempt to do so ended up putting a stop symbol next to those songs. In the end I had to select a new station, and then go back to the original station to start listening again. The fact that the last.fm web player only has stop skip buttons makes me think that quite a few of the standard rhythmbox behavious need changing or disabling to support this properly. My suggestion would be that when playing from last.fm: - Previous, repeat shuffle functions should be disabled. - Pause should be mapped to stop - Previously listened to tracks should be greyed out, to prevent users attempting to go back to them. Mapping pause to stop may be a little controversial (and might be better as an optional setting for last.fm playback). However, since RhythmBox doesn't have dedicated stop or pause buttons I feel it would be an acceptable move, and I for one would appreciate being able to use my keyboards play/pause button with last.fm in the same way I use it for everything else. And in fact, now I've written this, I wonder if the lack of pause functionality at last.fm expains the codec error too. If RhythmBox is expecting to be able to pause resume a track, but last.fm instead starts on a new track, I wonder if that could occasionally cause RhythmBox to get confused over what to expect? If last.fm is at that point sending a new track list instead of streaming music, could that explain the codec error? -- rhythmbox doesn't resume lastfm tracks https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/347784 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 260939] Re: Window list missing items on second monitor
I should maybe mention that I don't get this behavior on my work computer which I've just upgraded to Ubuntu, so I think it's safe to close this bug. My work computer is also running Ubuntu 8.04, this time on an ATI Radeon HD 2600XT. The setup is essentially identical as I followed the same configuration notes, but one key difference may be that I didn't need to mess about with graphics drivers so much this time. My installation steps were simply based on: # Click System - Administration - Hardware drivers and install the non free ati drivers # Then configure with: * aticonfig --dtop=horizontal * aticonfig --initial --desktop-setup=horizontal --overlay-on=1 --ovt=Xv -- Window list missing items on second monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260939 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 260939] Re: Window list missing items on second monitor
I've just found it's also possible for the Window Selector to give the wrong list of items. If I select a program on the second monitor, then click on the Window Selector, it shows the contents of both screens. If however I then right-click on the Window Selector, then left-click on it again, it now shows only the contents of the first monitor (where the window selector panel is located). So far alt-tab has proven reliable, but it's very disconcerting to be not quite sure of what programs are running. -- Window list missing items on second monitor https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/260939 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to gnome-panel in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
RE: [Bug 260939] Re: Window list missing items on second monitor
It's reproducible every time for me right now, simply moving windows to the second screen makes them disappear from the window list. I've got detailed notes on how I configured Ubuntu if they are needed. The basic setup is that I'm running on an ATI Radeon x1950, I installed the Ubuntu ATI drivers, then the latest ATI drivers, and configured it for dual screen using the following aticonfig commands: aticonfig --dtop=horizontal aticonfig --initial --desktop-setup=horizontal --overlay-on=1 --ovt=Xv If you have any problems reproducing this let me know, I plan to re- install Ubuntu anyway soon to check that my notes are accurate, so it's no problem to test that it's 100% reproducible. Status in “libwnck” source package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Windows on my second monitor don't appear in the 'Window List', although if I add the 'Window Selector' I can find them, and Alt-Tab works ok too. This is a real nuisance, especially if I have a window minimised as they seem to disappear. I can't find any setting to correct this, nor anything on any forum indicating this has been seen before. I'm running Ubuntu 8.04, with ATI graphics drivers powering two monitors, and Compiz enabled. I think the graphics drivers are set to use 'overlay' mode on the second screen, but I'm not entirely sure what that's needed for. It also looks like dragging windows from the second monitor to the first causes odd effects. I have evolution mail running all the time so it's the first program on my window list. If I drag a program from my second monitor to the first, it can occasionally cause evolution to disappear from the window list. I haven't been able to reliably reproduce that yet, so I'll add more information if I ever get to that stage. Aaah, didn't know I could do that (spot the recent windows convert). Ok, if I add a new panel on the 2nd screen, and put a window list on there it shows the programs I have on that monitor. That does appear to be a usable workaround so I'll keep testing that and let you know if I spot any problems.
