[Bug 1850001] Re: nautilus hangs on file delete
I too have this issue. I just upgraded from 18.04 LTS to 19.10 and Nautilus starts fine, finishes the check, but I cannot initiate any file commands like copy, move or delete. Nautilus doesn't respond and GNOME serves the pop-up to kill Nautilus. Pressing the 'waiting' option repeatedly doesn't solve it. Running it from the commandline, I see some widget errors when trying to execute a command: $ nautilus G (org.gnome.Nautilus:23240): Gtk-CRITICAL **: 21:55:52.377: gtk_widget_get_mapped: assertion 'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed (org.gnome.Nautilus:23240): Gdk-CRITICAL **: 21:55:52.377: gdk_window_is_visible: assertion 'GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed (org.gnome.Nautilus:23240): Gdk-CRITICAL **: 21:55:52.377: gdk_window_show_internal: assertion 'GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed (org.gnome.Nautilus:23240): Gtk-CRITICAL **: 21:55:52.377: gtk_widget_set_opacity: assertion 'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed (org.gnome.Nautilus:23240): Gtk-CRITICAL **: 21:55:52.377: gtk_widget_queue_draw: assertion 'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed (org.gnome.Nautilus:23240): Gtk-CRITICAL **: 21:55:54.380: gtk_widget_get_mapped: assertion 'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed (org.gnome.Nautilus:23240): Gdk-CRITICAL **: 21:55:54.380: gdk_window_is_visible: assertion 'GDK_IS_WINDOW (window)' failed (org.gnome.Nautilus:23240): Gtk-CRITICAL **: 21:55:54.380: gtk_widget_set_opacity: assertion 'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed (org.gnome.Nautilus:23240): Gtk-CRITICAL **: 21:55:54.380: gtk_widget_queue_draw: assertion 'GTK_IS_WIDGET (widget)' failed It seems this bug has been reported upstream too, but is ignored as the version is too old https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/nautilus/issues/1218 I cannot find an easy answer in the logs that points to a specific problem. I can successfully do the file operations from the command line using mv, cp and rm, so it is no permission issue. I'm now in the process of installing Nautilus from Flathub gnome- nightly, hopefully that will give me back a working system. Because even though I did a nice upgrade using `sudo do-release-upgrade` it feels like I have a broken system now. During the upgrade I noticed "xenial" in the path-names, assuming the target would be 16.04 LTS. But after 15min I noticed the following: - Errors were encountered while processing: /var/cache/apt/archives/lvm2_2.02.133-1ubuntu10_amd64.deb /var/cache/apt/archives/udev_229-4ubuntu12_amd64.deb Error in function: SystemError: E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) Error in sys.excepthook: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/problem_report.py", line 416, in add_to_existing self.write(f) File "/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/problem_report.py", line 369, in write block = f.read(1048576) File "/usr/lib/python3.4/codecs.py", line 319, in decode (result, consumed) = self._buffer_decode(data, self.errors, final) UnicodeDecodeError: 'utf-8' codec can't decode byte 0x8b in position 1: invalid start byte Original exception was: SystemError: E:Sub-process /usr/bin/dpkg returned an error code (1) - Given the URL in the text, I landed here. At the next choice, I selected to continue, effectively ignoring more problems with udev ? I tried to recover by "apt-get -f install", later "apt full-upgrade" and it looked ok. Unfortunately after reboot the server responded only to ping, as far as I could see nothing else. I am working remotely with the server of my client, they start working at 08:00 CET. Going for a short sleep now, as I'm afraid having to travel to the client and continue on-site. If you can provide me with hits, I would apreciate that a lot. [Bug 1258966] [NEW] Inconsistent behavior when quitting rhythmbox
Public bug reported: For a user there are three ways I know for quitting an application : - File->quit - Alt+F4 - Click on the cross of the window - Right click on the icon in the dash and select quit According to these 4 methods there are two cases to consider : either a music is played or not. While not playing : the application is always unloaded from the memory whichever the way used (that is good) While playing : only the quit option in the file menu really unload the application. The three others options rather hide the main windows (background play) so that : - it is impossible to remove the application from the memory without opening a new window; - it is difficult to predict what will be the behavior of closing the window or using the dash quit option. [Bug 1254376] [NEW] Brightness settings changes have no effect.
Public bug reported: On my laptop (acer aspire one V5-131) which uses Ubuntu 13.04, the change of the brightness settings have no effect on the brightness in the settings application. [Bug 1248888] Re: Folder creation naming is canceled when name contains underscore with french bepo keyboard layout
I think this key is not binded to anything but just to make sure I launched the keyboard tool. It seems binded to nothing but in english layout, pressing the key open the «command menu» (such as the left alt key does). But in bépo layout, it does nothing. So, in the tab «shortcut» I tryed to temporary set the AltGr key to some unused shortcut functionality : - When the qwerty layout is selected the key is recognize as a "Alt R" key; - When the bépo layout is selected the key is recognize as a "Level 3 shift" key. Please see the uploaded screenshot I don't know what is this kind of key "Level 3 shift". Bépo layout is the equivalent of the dvorak layout (but applied to french). On a bépo keyboard layout, this AltGr key is useful for dealing with foreign language and input char like ñ ã ú ś ¿ ¡ ù ï © ß ... Remark, whenever I try to bind this "Level 3 shift" to a shortcut, the shortcut never works when the key is pressed. ** Attachment added: "Two layout recognize the same physical key differently" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/124/+attachment/3902360/+files/ShortcutBindingRecognition.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/124 Title: Folder creation naming is canceled when name contains underscore with french bepo keyboard layout To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nautilus/+bug/124/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

I do confirm that this proposed patch resolves this nasty bug on quantal. So, from my point of view, this is a big THANK YOU to all the upstream developers and the smart Ubuntu guys!!! Some notes (I always use a fresh standard live 32 bit USB key with the same DVD-RW): - the patch is still not "proposed" on 11.10 and 12.04 (see https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/brasero/), so I cannot rightly test it there - the "unreadable coasters" produced from other Ubuntu versions are seen as blank disk from standard brasero 12.10, and can be easily blanked with it. This is different from old versions of brasero that does not recognise it at all as a DVD medium. - the bug (don't ask me why) is quite different on 12.10. Here sometimes you can have a readable DVD, but never on the first recording! It seems that it's somehow and sometimes able to record a second recording session on what it thinks it's a blank disk. +1 for going to stable on quantal! ** Changed in: brasero (Ubuntu Quantal) Status: Fix Committed => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to brasero in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/780117 Title: Brasero finishes without error but unusable media [on-the-fly mode] (Ubuntu 11.04 ->12.04) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/brasero/+bug/780117/+subscriptions -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 278261] Re: two xscreens -> gnome panel crashes
Hi, I resolved the problem on my computer. It was an interaction with metacity, linked to the /apps/metacity/general/compositing_manager key. If it is true then some visuals effects are done without compiz, but it has to be set to false to remove my problems. The question is : where is the bug ? In Metacity/compiz or in other used libs ? With 2.6.27-10 from -proposed the keyboard control for backlight works with 7 levels of dimming up and down. However, the brightness OSD is still not showing when using the keyboard shortcut. It is only showing briefly when I plug-unplug the power cord and g-p-m updates the brightness level automatically.
