[Bug 513058] [NEW] [Lucid, Karmic] MAJOR REGRESSION: Evince does not print PDF to HP LaserJet 3380
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evince Testing7.04-7.10-8.04-8.10-9.04-9.10-10.4 I observed a constant loss in functionality as far as printing to a HP LaserJet 3380 is concerned. >From 7.04-9.04 printing worked fine. 9.10 showed some akward behaviour: Printing from the default PDF viewer, it sometimes took ages to print. Also, unlike before, when calling the print dialogue, for some seconds the window froze while it said something like "Informationen über Drucker werden geholt" (getting printer data). Printing PDFs, however, worked fine with xpdf. Now testing 10.04 Alpha 2 with all of today's update, evince again refuses to work. While the printer queue has been reporting the printer as "Ausführend" (= executing print job), on attempt of repeating the print job, the print dialogue says "Bad pattern", whatever that may be. I can provide additional information if you tell me which would be needed. The present 10.04 that is being tested is a 32-Bit version. 9.10 and 9.04 have been 64-Bit versions. Prior versions have probably been 32-bit versions. ** Affects: evince (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [Lucid, Karmic] MAJOR REGRESSION: Evince does not print PDF to HP LaserJet 3380 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/513058 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evince in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 294438 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/294438 Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution-data-server-common After more than two years of testing various versions of Evolution which came with various Ubuntu releases, I can see no progress whatsoever as far as the question of function in connection with an Exchange 2003 server is concerned, so I wondered if Evolution could be completely uninstalled from a 9.04 system which runs on an Eee PC with only 4 GB internal flash memory (i.e. on a machine where one can't waste memory for programs that one does not use). I was amazed to see that evolution-data-server-common cannot be uninstalled via Synaptic unless you wish to remove ubuntu-desktop, gnome-panel and various other important packages, too, which would basically mean that you would wreck your system. I wonder why the Ubuntu developers would want to stipulate that Ubuntu users have to use Evolution. ** Affects: evolution-data-server (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Invalid -- Jaunty: Evolution cannot be uninstalled completely (unless you want to wreck your system) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/424327 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to evolution-data-server in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
[Bug 347968] [NEW] Jaunty: Since update, MS Exchange Server support has gone (Evolution)
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution Until I updated to Ubuntu 9.04 Alpha 5+, Evolution had a function for connecting to MS Exchange servers (through a buggy but sometimes working OWA connector). [Bug 344841] [NEW] Jaunty: Function for dumping all MS Exchange server data missing in Evolution

[Bug 261780] [NEW] MacBook Pro: No square brackets - wrong keyboard layout
Public bug reported: On a German PC keyboard, usually square brackets are produced as follows: AltGr + 8: squared bracket open AltGr + 9: squared bracket close. MacBooks Pros have no printed indication on the keys how to produce square brackets (AFAIK this goes for all models), so I assumed you could produce them the PC way. I assumed that the key second right to the space key (= the one left from the LeftArrow key - you can see this nicely on http://www.oliverherrmann.com/stuff/mbp/MBP02.jpg) would have the function of the "AltGr" key you know from PCs. However, when I press this key whose name I don't know, plus "8" or "9", I get no square brackets. Instead, this key works as "Return" key. This goes for Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4, fully updated. [Bug 150373] Re: [Hardy, Gutsy Beta] Creating a 7zip gives error
Please tell us which are the alternatives users can use. zip presently cannot handle large files (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/fileroller/+bug/70846), .tar.gz is considered rather unsafe and outdated (see wikipedia), and various other formats have issues, too (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file- roller). To my present state of knowledge, Ubuntu features not modern, reliable archiving method at all. Apart from that, I consider it pretty arrogant to just say "go use something else". According this method, you could just tell every bug filer to go use another operating system, right? Your method of constantly telling users that bugs are actually none or not important (see other projects) is something I would consider rather inadaequate. Also see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file- roller/+bug/90328 - apparently errors during the package process can lead to other major problems. Please reconsider your priority settings. [Bug 150373] Re: creating a 7zip gives error in Gutsy Beta
Confirmed for Ubuntu 8.04.1 32-Bit, and as for Sebastien Bacher, I consider your answer pretty arrogant. Generally I would say, If an implemented feature does not work, leave it out until it works, but do no not put it into a so-called "long term support" version - unless you wish to say that "long term support" means you will need support for a long term. Please give us a precise reasoning why you think this a "small issue" which deserves low priority only - something with an understandable reason beyond your personal opinion. -- creating a 7zip gives error in Gutsy Beta https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/150373 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is a bug assignee. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 157396] Re: Copyng a file to a NTFS drive change the date and the time of the file
I agree that from a purely technical point of view, there is some inherent logic in that. From the user's point of view, this is, however, not understandable. You can ask yourself which information a user would expect to have: The birthdate of the file or the date of some copying process. Secondly, you can ask yourself whether you ever wondered about the COPYING DATE of a file. And, once again: Cf. Wikipedia, s.v. "Software bug": "A software bug (or just "bug") is an error, flaw, mistake, failure, fault or "undocumented feature" in a computer program that prevents it from behaving as intended ... ." IMHO this applies here: If you copy a file, you expect your file creation date not to be destroyed. Current defaults prevents the software from behaving as intended by the bug filer. -- Copyng a file to a NTFS drive change the date and the time of the file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157396 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs

[Bug 157396] Re: Copyng a file to a NTFS drive change the date and the time of the file
Depends upon whether you see the behaviour of standard Unix as the measure. Personally, I would say that if I wanted Unix I would buy Unix, and the only question important here is whether current defaults make sense or might be dangerous for the average Ubuntu user. Cf. Current defaults have massive destructive potential. Imagine the bug filer doing a backup and then formatting his main hard disk drive because he wants to install a new system. It will probably be only when he copies back his data that he will notice that all his creation dates have been destroyed, which will make it impossible to have his data sorted by creation date in the future. Having your data intact, this goes far beyond a mere "wish". -- Copyng a file to a NTFS drive change the date and the time of the file https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/157396 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Desktop Bugs, which is subscribed to nautilus in ubuntu. -- desktop-bugs mailing list desktop-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/desktop-bugs
