[Bug 513058] [NEW] [Lucid, Karmic] MAJOR REGRESSION: Evince does not print PDF to HP LaserJet 3380

2010-01-26 Thread oss_test_launchpad
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evince

Testing7.04-7.10-8.04-8.10-9.04-9.10-10.4 I observed a constant loss in
functionality as far as printing to a HP LaserJet 3380 is concerned.

>From 7.04-9.04 printing worked fine.

9.10 showed some akward behaviour: Printing from the default PDF viewer,
it sometimes took ages to print. Also, unlike before, when calling the
print dialogue, for some seconds the window froze while it said
something like "Informationen über Drucker werden geholt" (getting
printer data). Printing PDFs, however, worked fine with xpdf.

Now testing 10.04 Alpha 2 with all of today's update, evince again
refuses to work. While the printer queue has been reporting the printer
as "Ausführend" (= executing print job), on attempt of repeating the
print job, the print dialogue says "Bad pattern", whatever that may be.

I can provide additional information if you tell me which would be
needed.

The present 10.04 that is being tested is a 32-Bit version. 9.10 and
9.04 have been 64-Bit versions. Prior versions have probably been 32-bit
versions.

[Bug 424327] [NEW] Jaunty: Evolution cannot be uninstalled completely (unless you want to wreck your system)

2009-09-04 Thread oss_test_launchpad
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 294438 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/294438

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution-data-server-common

After more than two years of testing various versions of Evolution which
came with various Ubuntu releases, I can see no progress whatsoever as
far as the question of function in connection with an Exchange 2003
server is concerned, so I wondered if Evolution could be completely
uninstalled from a 9.04 system which runs on an Eee PC with only 4 GB
internal flash memory (i.e. on a machine where one can't waste memory
for programs that one does not use).

I was amazed to see that evolution-data-server-common cannot be
uninstalled via Synaptic unless you wish to remove ubuntu-desktop,
gnome-panel and various other important packages, too, which would
basically mean that you would wreck your system.

I wonder why the Ubuntu developers would want to stipulate that Ubuntu
users have to use Evolution.

[Bug 347968] [NEW] Jaunty: Since update, MS Exchange Server support has gone (Evolution)

2009-03-24 Thread oss_test_launchpad
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Until I updated to Ubuntu 9.04 Alpha 5+, Evolution had a function for
connecting to MS Exchange servers (through a buggy but sometimes working
OWA connector). Jaunty now features Evolution 2.26.0 and now you cannot
make up new Exchange accounts any more (there is not even an option for
this any more). This is a crucial error here because it means I can no
longer work with Ubuntu but I will have to switch back to MS Windows and
MS Office Outlook in order to get my company work done. What's the
purpose of this?

[Bug 344841] [NEW] Jaunty: Function for dumping all MS Exchange server data missing in Evolution

2009-03-18 Thread oss_test_launchpad
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

Considerung the numerous known problems with Evolution and the OWA
connector, it would be very important to have a function that would
enable you to dump (backup) all data stored on your MS Exchange server
account. I believe Evolution had such a function in the past, as MS
Office Outlook has it, but it has gone. This would be a regression.

Apart from the bug report itself which has been opened upstream on
September 15th, there is no response activity there at all (cf

Wouldn't it be better and more fair to tell users: "Ubuntu offers no

better use another OS"?

[Bug 67188] Re: "Error activating XKB configuration." - Requires manual xorg.conf editing

Apparently, currently on Intel MacBook Pros not only the keyboard is not
being detected but it is also completely wrong. Try System ->
Einstellungen -> Tastatur, choose "MacBook/MacBook Pro (Intl)" +
"Germany Macintosh" and choose "Print Layout Diagram". I get a DESKTOP
KEYBOARD DIAGRAM! Now I stop wondering why there is so much wrong with
Ubuntu and this keyboard! You can look at this diagram in

This_is_what_Ubuntu_thinks_to_be_a_MacBook_or_MacBook_Pro_keyboard_Intel_Germany_Macintosh.pdf.

Can anyone tell the developer about this? Seems to me he doesn't really
read what we are discussing here.

Once more, here is what the keyboard really looks like:

[Bug 67188] Re: "Error activating XKB configuration." - Requires manual xorg.conf editing

2008-09-11 Thread oss_test_launchpad
Confirmed for Intrepid Alpha (64-Bit) as of today. This error occured
since an update yesterday. (Originally a fresh install of Intrepid Alpha
2 with permanent updates.) MacBook Pro rev. 3.

Error activating XKB configuration.
It can happen under various circumstances:
- a bug in libxklavier library
- a bug in X server (xkbcomp, xmodmap utilities)
- X server with incompatible libxkbfile implementation

X server version data:
The X.Org Foundation
10499906

If you report this situation as a bug, please include:
- The result of xprop -root | grep XKB
- The result of gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd

There are various MacBook Pro keyboard issues in launchpad. I don't know
if this a keyboard issue. Since this error message occurs, something is
wrong with the theme, too: E.g. Firefox has a blue window bar instead of
a brown one and a slightly different look, too.

xprop -root | grep XKB says

_XKB_RULES_NAMES_BACKUP(STRING) = "evdev", "pc105", "de", "mac_nodeadkeys", ""
_XKB_RULES_NAMES(STRING) = "evdev", "pc105", "de", "mac_nodeadkeys", ""

.

gconftool-2 -R /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd says

layouts = [de   mac]
model = macbook79
options = [grp  grp:alts_toggle]

Please mind that there are several other MacBook Pro keyboard issues
which have already been reported.

[Bug 241139] Re: Intrepid Ibex: Cannot access samba share "Unable to mount location"

2008-08-27 Thread oss_test_launchpad
I have the following problem, testing with Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4+, trying
to connect to a company SMB network server share. Nautilus tells me:

Could not display "smb://servername/myshare$/" - Einhängen des Ortes nicht
möglich.

This worked ok when I used 8.04. However, nautilus shows the share as
mounted (gets a shortcut on the left side, as a cd would which has been
inserted into a local drive). When I press the "eject" (unmount) button
for this share, I sometimes get the following error message:

Could not display "smb://servername/myshare$/". Fehler: DBus error
org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.InvalidArgs: Mountpoint Already registered - Bitte
wählen Sie einen anderen Betrachter und versuchen Sie es erneut.

I entered my account data the first time I tried to connect. Strangely enough,
in the properties you can see how many files there are on this share and how
much data there is all in all, but the file list cannot be displayed.

I reported this bug under
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/samba/+bug/216465. However,
going more into it, I think this was the wrong thread to report this to.
Is this thread I am writing in now the right one, or should I open a new

[Bug 261780] [NEW] MacBook Pro: No square brackets - wrong keyboard layout

2008-08-27 Thread oss_test_launchpad
Public bug reported:

On a German PC keyboard, usually square brackets are produced as
follows:

AltGr + 8: squared bracket open
AltGr + 9: squared bracket close.

MacBooks Pros have no printed indication on the keys how to produce
square brackets (AFAIK this goes for all models), so I assumed you could
produce them the PC way.

I assumed that the key second right to the space key (= the one left
from the LeftArrow key - you can see this nicely on
http://www.oliverherrmann.com/stuff/mbp/MBP02.jpg) would have the
function of the "AltGr" key you know from PCs. However, when I press
this key whose name I don't know, plus "8" or "9", I get no square
brackets. Instead, this key works as "Return" key.

This goes for Ubuntu 8.10 Alpha 4, fully updated. Ubuntu installed, then
System -> Prefrences -> Keyboard -> "MacBook / MacBook Pro (Intel)". The
MacBook Pro is a rev. 3 one.

[Bug 150373] Re: [Hardy, Gutsy Beta] Creating a 7zip gives error

2008-08-05 Thread oss_test_launchpad
Please tell us which are the alternatives users can use. zip presently
cannot handle large files (see
https://bugs.launchpad.net/fileroller/+bug/70846), .tar.gz is considered
rather unsafe and outdated (see wikipedia), and various other formats
have issues, too (see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file-
roller). To my present state of knowledge, Ubuntu features not modern,
reliable archiving method at all.

Apart from that, I consider it pretty arrogant to just say "go use
something else". According this method, you could just tell every bug
filer to go use another operating system, right? Your method of
constantly telling users that bugs are actually none or not important
(see other projects) is something I would consider rather inadaequate.

Also see https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/file-
roller/+bug/90328 - apparently errors during the package process can
lead to other major problems.

Please reconsider your priority settings. Thank you.

Confirmed for Ubuntu 8.04.1 32-Bit, and as for Sebastien Bacher, I
consider your answer pretty arrogant.

Generally I would say, If an implemented feature does not work, leave it
out until it works, but do no not put it into a so-called "long term
support" version - unless you wish to say that "long term support" means
you will need support for a long term.

Please give us a precise reasoning why you think this a "small issue"
which deserves low priority only - something with an understandable
reason beyond your personal opinion.

Sorry, I don't get it. First you keep telling us that this is a feature,
not a bug, and now you are telling us that you have no time discussing
with us because you need it to fix "the bug"? Sorry to say that, but
that's quite illogical. No offence intended of course.

[Bug 157396] Re: Copyng a file to a NTFS drive change the date and the time of the file

2008-06-07 Thread oss_test_launchpad
I agree that from a purely technical point of view, there is some
inherent logic in that. From the user's point of view, this is, however,
not understandable.

You can ask yourself which information a user would expect to have: The
birthdate of the file or the date of some copying process. Secondly, you
can ask yourself whether you ever wondered about the COPYING DATE of a
file.

And, once again:

Cf. Wikipedia, s.v. "Software bug": "A software bug (or just "bug") is
an error, flaw, mistake, failure, fault or "undocumented feature" in a
computer program that prevents it from behaving as intended ... ." IMHO
this applies here: If you copy a file, you expect your file creation
date not to be destroyed. Current defaults prevents the software from
behaving as intended by the bug filer.

[Bug 157396] Re: Copyng a file to a NTFS drive change the date and the time of the file

2008-06-06 Thread oss_test_launchpad
Depends upon whether you see the behaviour of standard Unix as the
measure.

Personally, I would say that if I wanted Unix I would buy Unix, and the
only question important here is whether current defaults make sense or
might be dangerous for the average Ubuntu user.

Current defaults have massive destructive potential. Imagine the bug
filer doing a backup and then formatting his main hard disk drive
because he wants to install a new system. It will probably be only when
he copies back his data that he will notice that all his creation dates
have been destroyed, which will make it impossible to have his data
sorted by creation date in the future.

Having your data intact, this goes far beyond a mere "wish".

[Bug 145163] Evolution has no "make calendar viewable for a specific other user" function

2007-09-26 Thread oss_test_launchpad
Public bug reported:

Evolution 2.12.0
Gutsy Beta, fully updated

When I choose Aktionen -> Kalenderinformationen veröffentlichen, nothing
at all happens. (Does this have something to do with the above mentioned
function anyway?).

** Affects: evolution (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
