[Bug 189219] [NEW] cross-references are not symmetric

2008-02-05 Thread yecril71pl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gucharmap

1. Select the Common character set.
2. Select the space character.
3. Select the Details tab.
4. Follow the link to zero-width space.

Expected result:

The Details tab for zero-width space should contain a reference to
space.

[Bug 189219] Re: cross-references are not symmetric

2008-02-11 Thread yecril71pl
That does not mean the bug is invalid, it only means the Unicode Standard is at
fault ("report upstream"). What do you think?
It is hopeless to try to contact Unicode Consortium as an individual.
The best way this could be handled is to make sure the cross-references are
symmetric while the descriptions are extracted during building.

[Bug 199298] [NEW] no way to create an encrypted archive

2008-03-06 Thread yecril71pl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

The command "Make archive" does not ask whether I desire to encrypt the
archive. I understand that the archive cannot be encrypted once it is created.
Note that there is no way to start File Roller from the GNOME GUI; it is not
listed under Accessories menu probably because it is meant to be integrated
with Nautilus.
This integration, however, is not full, and this obstacle is really blocking.
I mean, you can of course Alt+F2 file-roller, but most people are not aware of
Alt+F2, and it is not even listed there so you still have to type.

2008-03-07 Thread yecril71pl
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 97114 ***

To be precise: there is a way to start File Roller from the GUI because it is
an invisible accessory and you can show it using the main menu setup applet;
it is called "Archive Manager" there.
This is, however, rather hard to find.

[Bug 72520] Re: Missing "Unmount" and "Eject" context menu items for removable volume icons

2008-03-13 Thread yecril71pl
While the context menu for a CD does contain the Eject command, the File menu
does not.
On the other hand, the Edit menu contains the Delete command, it is enabled and
causes errors when executed.
I would expect it to eject the CD to be compatible with the Macintosh
interface; if that is not acceptable, it should be disabled.

[Bug 44413] Re: Dragging removable volumes to trash should eject them

2008-03-18 Thread yecril71pl
That bug is still open, why is this bug closed as invalid?
Also, it is not true that the idea has always been rejected. It was
arbitrarily rejected, for no good reason, once in 2005, by the project's
maintainer.
Nevertheless, that bug is open and valid. Let’s say we are waiting for GNOME’s

[Bug 173636] Gnome Help stops responding until Firefox closes

2007-12-03 Thread yecril71pl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: yelp

When I press upon community documentation link in the main Gnome help screen,
and Firefox is not running, a new Firefox window starts. Gnome help treats it
as modal: it stops responding until the Firefox browser quits.
Workaround: start Firefox first, Gnome help afterwards.

[Bug 164903] Re: The paste key does not paste

2007-12-11 Thread yecril71pl
The information at does not cover
this case. I am sorry to say that but I cannot find any bug reporting
guideline I have neglected. The right package is gedit because the bug occurs
in gedit; general debugging procedures do not apply because it does not crash;
no specific debugging procedures are available; I can repeat the problem; I
hope it is not a feature of gedit (if it is, my bug is a feature request); my
support request remained unaswered and timed out; my keyboard has a physical
key labelled Paste; when I press it, nothing happens, which is contrary to
common sense which tells me it should trigger the Paste action. What exactly
is invalid or missing here?
The keyboard is actually A4Tech KBS-26.

[Bug 164903] Re: The paste key does not paste

2007-12-11 Thread yecril71pl
I wrote "Press Copy". Would it have been clearer if I had written "Press the
Copy key"? It is customary to write "Press F1" instead of "Press the F1 key",
or "Press Select" instead of "Press the Select key".
You can bind these keys in Terminal, which is actually quite convenient (much
less work to do than the default binding Ctrl+Shift+V). I would appreciate if
Terminal handled this key independently of any customary binding; this not the
case right now but it seems to be a minor issue.

That depends what standard you refer to. Select, for example, is a standard
key for Sun keyboards (although I do not know its purpose, it did nothing when
attached to HP Apollo), and IBM terminals have a host of very funny keys that
are standard to them (hearsay).
Yes, it works in Terminal, see above. It seems I have to use a hammer to
explain things here.

[Bug 164903] Re: The paste key does not paste

2007-12-12 Thread yecril71pl
You referred to standard PC keyboards, not to standard IBM PC keyboards,
although I admit that an IBM terminal is not a PC.
I said nowhere that this bug was specific to gedit. The controller part of X11
UI is notoriously inconsistent: pressing Ctrl+Delete means "delete the next
word" in Nautilus but "Delete to the end of line" in Firefox, and Ctrl+K works
nowhere except in Emacs, to my great disappointment. (It works in KDE but I
have GNOME here.) And what I should expect from pressing the middle mouse
button remains a mystery to me; I cannot figure it out from the behaviour,
except for the simplest case when text has just been marked in the same
application, and I cannot find any relevant guide. (I think there must be
something in developers' documentation I do not have any reason to read.)
Therefore I do not think you can invalidate this issue on conformance grounds.

However, I do not think it is possible to fix this issue everywhere without
fixing it in gedit as well. If you know there is a common denominator, please
use the "Also affects project" tool to create a redirection. If you do not,
leave it open.  Of course, a similar bug can be reported to other projects;
since gedit is small and simple, why not start with gedit?
It can also happen that the common denominator exists but it is not a separate
project; thus, fixing it on gedit would fix it everywhere. I do not have much
hope about that but I cannot exclude that either.

[Bug 180064] scroll bar obscures the bottom line

2008-01-03 Thread yecril71pl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gedit

Steps:
1. Open a document that does not need the horizontal scrollbar because the
lines of text are not wider than the window.
2. Go to the bottom line and start typing until you reach the (right, if you
are like me) margin.
3. Type a character (just one!)
> The horizontal scroll bar appears over the last line; the last line
> containing the cursor becomes invisible.
Reason: It is confusing. (OMG, I have lost the cursor! The manager will have
to get me a new one!)
Fix: The window should grow downwards to accomodate the new scroll bar area.
If that is not possible, the text pane should scroll to reveal the bottom line.

[Bug 183592] Evolution stopped responding after text paste

2008-01-16 Thread yecril71pl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: evolution

I was writing some lengthy text in the message composer.
I was not satisfied with what I wrote so I decided to move a portion of text
within the sentence.
I selected the middle part to paste and pressed the middle button in the row
above.
And then all hell broke loose.
The computer stopped responding and started thrashing.
I switched to text console 1 and logged in to see what was going on.
The kernel communicated to the console that it must kill Firefox because it
uses too much memory.
So it did.
Top showed evolution running, taking .5% to 2% CPU but 58% to 64% RAM, going up
and down within these limits.
I attached the debugger to it and dumped core.
I detached and evolution continued to happily clog my machine.
I logged out from the console and returned to the graphical display.
I told the window manager to kill Evolution because it was not responding.
Fortunately, the letter I was writing was rescued the next time I launched
Evolution.
Here my story ends.

[Bug 187781] [NEW] the documentation is a stub

2008-01-31 Thread yecril71pl
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gnome-keyring-manager

The document as on-line help is limited to a single welcome; I suspected my
installation is broken but it is not.
How do we expect to fix Bug #1 if we include such funny stuff in the distro? I
wasted my time trying to fix it; my client would probably trash the whole thing.
I understand that documentation is to come, but it is better to have no
documentation at all than a wrong and repelling one.
