[Bug 133668] Re: dragging problem

2008-01-29 Thread John Arthur Fensome
I am certain I haven't 'dragged' anything I was changing a few setting
under System | Preferences | Main Menu and suddenly I have the same
problem, except I have NO MAIN MENU at all just a small dot that appears
to be approx' 2x2 pixels in size.

How do I get my menu back?

I cannot find anything as the 'search' tool (I used) was on this menu.

Can anyone tell me how to get my Main Menu back?

Selecting Main Menu to change options under the System | Preferences
| Main Menu does not do anything.

This is urgent as I cannot access any of my applications.

Re: [Bug 133668] Re: dragging problem

2008-01-29 Thread ChrisL
Hello,

This fix worked for me:

Problem is fixable by the following solution:

1) Edit ~/.config/menus/settings.menu:
  - Open the Console
  - type:cd ~/.config/menus/ (enter)
  - type:nano settings.menu (enter)

2) Find Move tags in that file, and delete them and everything between them
example:
Move
OldAdministration/Old
NewAdministration/Administration/New
/Move

3) Press Ctrl + X to exit - when it asks to save select YES.

If you don't find any Move tags, it might be in another file inside
the ~/.config/menus/ folder.
Probably called something like mainmenu or something similar.

After all that is resolved, go to the bug report page here:
http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474821#c3

Benjamin Gramlich has apparently created a fix for this problem you
can download, although I have not yet tried it.

Hope this helps,
Chris

[Bug 133668] Re: dragging problem

2007-11-07 Thread Michael
On Gutsy, I was able to reproduce by dragging an item from one menu over
the desktop (but NOT letting go of the mouse button) and dragging back
to original location and it disappears but the reappears on its own in
the correct location in about 1 second. I assume this is fixed and is
now working properly.

alacarte --version
GNOME alacarte 0.11.3

[Bug 133668] Re: dragging problem

2007-11-07 Thread ChrisL
The problem applies to at least all of the following: (not updates with
Gusty tests)

- The Main Menu configuration
- The actual items in the drop down from everything in the top navigation bar

For example, after I upgraded to Gusty, I was in the System Preferences
drop down and accidentally dragged the Windows item to the desktop.
I can't drag it back, so I have to go find another configuration files to edit.

(I come from Windows XP, where you can drag stuff on and off and back
again on nearly every part of explorer. Since I sometimes get carried
away in my speedy navigation and accidentally drag something somewhere,
I'm used to having the ability to put it back.)

Thanks for looking into this.
